Introducing Dale

An ice storm on Wednesday meant downed trees and slick roads for us.  However warmer temperatures yesterday afternoon made the drive home from work not nearly as much of a nail-biter.  My day off today has been filled with a lot of sunshine that is doing little to melt the ice on our driveway.
Of course the dogs don't care about any of it; their week has been consumed with getting to know the new addition. I have been very careful and cautious introducing 'Dale' to the dogs because I didn't know how any of them would react to a cat that wasn't CC.
Dale seems to have no fear whatsoever of the dogs so the intros have gone pretty well. And Charlie, for whatever reason has taken a real liking to Dale.
Charlie has claimed Dale as his very own, and wants to be with him every chance he gets.  Dale doesn't seem to mind all of the attention and if I didn't know better, I'd think he was enjoying it.
Todd is of course very, very curious about Dale and wants to play.  I know it's only a matter of time before Dale runs and Todd chases him.
So I've limited his one on one interactions with Dale for now.
But I think that both Charlie and Todd enjoy just hanging-out in 'Dale's room'.
We've still not decided about keeping Dale or putting him up for adoption. I think he could easily find a home because he's a young and pretty sociable cat.
The rescue that we are fostering him for, along with 2 other rescues managed to get all 100 cats from the shelter that Dale came from.  But I read on their Facebook page this week that they were trying to get 30 more cats from another shelter.  Sadly it never ends, and if we keep Dale our helping another cat will end too.  But the decision doesn't have to be made for about anther week, so we will see.  Watch this space!

  2. It is so nice that Dale is being accepted by your pack. Charlie sounds like a real sweetie! Adorable photos. We had the same ice storm, with what seems like hundreds of trees down. And our power went out for most of the day. I am glad it is over now, come on Spring! Have a great evening!

  4. Such optimistic interactions with these members of your pack. The photos of Dale and Charlie are priceless. I guess it all depends on Shadow and the depth of his desire to make Dale into a snack. What does that little voice in your gut say so far?

  7. Hi Kim, terrible storm out your way, glad you are all safe......how adorable the pictures are of Dale and Charlie, so so sweet. ....So heartbreaking that there are so many unwanted cats and dogs out there, makes me so sad, wish I could love them all, but I thank God for Angels such as you, Big Hugs Francine..

  12. Glad they are all getting along . It is a tuff decision as you already have your hands full . I don't understand why there are so many cats in shelters or stray cats wondering around either , we have a entire family of about 4 generations could be more of cats wondering our valley , If I could afford it I would take them all in but even taking them to a shelter here is useless to many in shelter here as well ! What ever you decide I know it will be for the best for this kitty ! Thanks for sharing lovely photos . Have a good weekend !

  13. Your wonderful family is so welcoming to the new one, and it looks like there is much happiness together. What a storm, hope it eases up very soon and stays that way for some time. Tomorrow this might well be on my blog, but for your info today, we had 33.3Celsius a wee while ago, now 1.50 p.m. and down to 22.9C.Take care on those slick roads, Jean.

  17. Well, I think Charlie has found his very own pet and y'all should keep Dale. Plus Dale is a golden and blends with the rest of the family so he's a keeper. Please mom can we keep him?

  19. Dale seems like an incredible cat for your family. I don't know cats that well but I have the impression that many would be intimidated by the dogs.

I absolutely adore the photos of Charlie and Dale. Those photos are precious!

  22. I would keep Dale just to make Charlie happy! lol He's adorable! Here's hoping the worst of the winter weather is finally behind all of us!

  23. Ice storms are the worst. Love the kitty - how are YOU warming up to him? I know it is really soon for you. Nice that Charlie has taken him under his care. I would almost bet Todd would love to play 'chase' and Dale doesn't know the rules yet.

  27. I think Dale will be a great addition to Golden Pines home. He seems to be getting along with Charlie very well. Hope the decision you make will be good for you, the dogs and Dale. Have a safe and warm weekend. We have had 80 degree weather in Miami. Could you send me some of your weather? Ana

  28. It looks like Dale is the perfect fit :0)

  29. Dale seems to feel right at home! Does Todd nudge/bonk him with his nose? Edgar does that to my Charlie and she, unlike Dale, runs away, creating a big hulabaloo of hissing and scottie feet whirring on the wood floors!

  30. Looks to me like Dale is a keeper. You'll not find many cats that would be comfortable and at ease in a multiple dog home! He looks very content and I love that Charlie has latched on to him.

Good luck in whatever you decide! I'm glad they were able to pull all the cats, but it is never ending and will be until people spay and neuter their cats.

  31. We have a cat who refuses to run unless they are playing tag and she is in the back. I think that is why they all get along so well.

  32. I you decide to keep Dale, I have a feeling he'll be running the show in no time.

  33. I'm pretty sure Dale's staying ;-).

  34. Hi Kim, Somehow I missed the initial post about your fostering Dale. What a pretty cat he is and seems so sweet. I'm not surprised your pack likes him too. I'll be waiting to see if you give him back or just end up being his forever home.
We have clear skies today, but cold!!!! Snow is coming this weekend and I'm ready for spring.
    Hugs, Noreen

  36. He certainly fits your color scheme, golden. It's nice to see Charlie grooming him. My Bentley used to do that to any cat that would sit still for it.

  37. Dale seems like such a good match so far! I am smitten!
    Your "Ice Trees" are beautiful!

  39. He really is adorable Kim. I think that being a younger cat he'll be more willing to accept the dogs as an older cat may struggle more especially if they have not had contact with dogs before. I think Dale is a keeper xx

    ReplyDelete
  40. Dale is an attractive guy and it looks like he is being adopted in to your dog pack very nicely. I will check back to see whether you keep him.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Ooohhhhh, I'm with the others - seeing him with Charlie is just precious. I can understand your dilemma though. The photos are so sweet and those ice photos - wow!

  42. So nice to see that your dogs are okay with Dale. Those two pictures of Dale and Charlie are so adorable!♥

  45. Dear Kim,
I'm so sorry you lost CC!

I think Dale is just adorable! How can you even think of giving him away? He's so cute with your dogs and the dogs seem to love him.

    Happy weekend!

  46. Kim,
Love that Dale is adjusting so well with the crew.
I think Charlie would be heart broken if Dale wasn't a keeper.
I can hear Charlie in the back ground barking in agreement!
    Have a great weekend.

  47. Personally, i think Dale has already found a wonderful home! And if you put him up for adoption, Charlie will be heartbroken... But you know what you want to do. I'm just sayin'. :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. Sorry Kim, but Dale looks like a real keeper to me! ;-)

  49. I wish people would simply learn to spay an neuter their pets to keep the homeless population down. The animals suffer if not in a loving home. *sigh* Glad to hear all the pups are loving Dale. He's super cute!

  50. he's such a beautiful kitty; fits right in with the rest with his color!
