The Job of Angels?

It has just been a couple of days and this heartbroken soul is very grateful to you all for your sharing Bo's loss with me, and leaving your words that have not only comforted me, but have again reminded me of the kindness and compassion of the blogging community. Many of us will own multiple pets in our lifetimes, and so we will have these sad losses along the way. But it is still worth every moment of joy we are given in return.  Someone on facebook said to me that "we live to love again."   Very true words,  I think.

We said good-bye to Bo here at home.  After the vet left, there was a very touching response from Rhett. While we waited for the service who is returning his remains to us, Rhett stayed with Bo the entire time afterwards and wouldn't leave him. He even tried to follow the men from the service out the door. Was Rhett doing the job of angels or keeping them company?

  4. Dogs are so aware and caring. Whenever we take one on the last trip to the vet, we take his or her best friend with us. Each seems to understand what's happening and each says goodbye in their own way. It's very sad and touching and loving.

  7. They know more than we will understand, and this was Rhett's way of giving comfort to Bo, and for you so much as well . To be loved, to be at home till the very end, is the biggest blessing that Bo ( or any one of us ) could ever have imagined, and so much love to you for giving him that short time filled with love and a wider family to share his days with.

  15. oh Rhett. that dear face of yours brings tears to mine.
yes. guardian. and no doubt feeling his own grief.
he will need extra hugs of comfort in his own loss.
I wonder why it has taken mankind so long to recognize that others have our own feelings as well. love and loss. and joy. and gratitude. and well. those who live with them and treasure them have known that for a long time.
you know it well darling bean. my heart to yours.

  16. You sure bring out the water in my eyes! Rhett knew what was going on. When I have had to put horses down, I let all the horses come into the arena so they understand what has happened. It just seems like the right thing to do. You have had a huge impact on myself and many others regarding how important it is to let these animals have the best quality of life possible. Your love and great support has given comfort to so many.

  19. There is something about the complete trust of a blind dog that's beyond value. It provides an insight into something that words can't describe.

  20. I fully believe that there are angels all around us. Rhett is yours. Big Hugs coming across the miles from us to you both! My Chloe has lost her sight and it is a struggle...my heart goes out to all who live with a dog who is blind. She does not hear well either so it keeps life interesting. Happy Easter to you and your family Kim.
