The Lunar eclipse and the winter solstice coincided for the first time since 1378. So how often do you get to witness an event that has not occurred since the year 1378 or 632 years ago--With that in mind and to the sound of the wind blowing through the trees and the crunching of something walking in the darkness that we couldn't see, from our front porch we captured these images of the eclipse...It was worth getting up early for. Did you see it too?
**Our local news was asking for pictures for their news broadcast, so I sent one of the above pictures in, and what do you know, they've shown it several times. A brief moment of celebrity!
Hey Kim,
ReplyDeleteYes, we definitely were up for the lunar eclipse. It was pretty interesting and I was surprised at how fast it went, really. We had a big bowl of hot soup to warm us up after spending the time outside freezing to see the event, and it was all well worth it!
Happy Winter Solstice, and Merry Christmas!
Yup, I was up and it was spectacular! Well worth it.
ReplyDeleteNow, off to work!
Your photographs are exceptional! How neat, that they used them on tv. Quite an event.
ReplyDeletethank you for your kind words the last couple days, they really do make a difference...
ReplyDeleteit was snowing here in WI so no eclipse for me....wonderful pics!!
xoxo
Alas, it was too cloudy here to view it -- but I did get a few shots after it cleared around 5 AM.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are spectacular. Congrats on the tv appearance!
These are excellent photos Kim! I'm glad you stayed up and took photos. Hubby was trying to get me to as well. But that was way past my bed time. How fun that they are showing your photo on the local news!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Tuesday Kim!
xo Catherine
Was not awake for it, so thank you for the pictures!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the lunar eclipse with us! It was cloudy (snowing) here so I didn't even bother getting up.
ReplyDeleteI hope you're not too tired today!
;-)
Hey there Kim...
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised they used your pic'...they are ALL quite extraordinary.
"Does the moon affect you?"
"Nooooooooooooooooooo....."

MAXMOM IN SOUTH AFRICA
Oh, you did great with your photos! I'd broadcast them too! :)
ReplyDeleteLiked your eerie description of something crunching in the snow that you couldn't see. Eek!
Those of us in the Chicago-land area were not able to see it as we were getting 4 inches of snow.
ReplyDeleteThose are great photos.

We had clouds, and still cloudy, so nice that you had clear skies! Quite the event, I would say!
ReplyDeleteOn the news again, pretty soon you'll be famous! :-)
Typical. Not a cloud in the sky all week and then this morning ....
ReplyDeleteAmazing photographs! You really are getting famous now! xxx
ReplyDeleteUGH, I thought I had submitted a comment but I don't see it so I'll try again...One, yes, I was up with my son who begged me to wake him at 2:00 so I did and we gazed at it for about 4 min. and went back upstairs...so I guess he could say I 'saw' it but didn't get the full effect until I showed him your pictures. He said, 'that's not what we saw!' well, he's right but hey, it was a memory!
ReplyDeleteI also wanted to thank you for such kind and supportive comments on my blog. I so appreicate them AND YOU!!!!
Have a blessed day!
We talked about staying up for it,but we went to sleep. At 1:34 Samba came to my side of the bed and licked my hand. She whimpered a little, so I got up, grabbed my robe and took her out the front door. I expected her to race into the grass to pee, but she just stood in the driveway looking at me. I looked up and saw the eclipse under way. She and I stood there and watched it. How did she know?
ReplyDeletewow, I am proud of you. Cloudy here and I didn't try for it.
ReplyDeleteExcellent pictures! I'm glad you got to enjoy it! We had perfect, crystal clear skies. However, with the clear skies came sub-zero temperatures so I stayed inside!! :)
ReplyDeleteThank for sharing the pictures!
I missed it!...so it was lovely to see the pictures on your blog...and brilliant they are too! :0)
ReplyDeleteYou are always a celebrity with us, your readers!
ReplyDeleteWhat magical photos these are. I spoke to my mom in Calgary last night and she was heading up to the big hill behind her house to watch the eclipse around midnight their time, and I was envious! No chance of seeing it here, with all the cloud cover. But seeing your photos made me feel a bit better!
Cloudy and snowy in Iowa..Missed it..Glad you took pictures.. Oh my goodness that had to have been a great and exciting moment to watch that. It's so beautiful~!
ReplyDeletethanks a lot..
Glad your TV station posted them on their station..
ta ta for now from Iowa
Great photos!! No wonder the news selected yours!
ReplyDeleteKim, your pictures (as always) are spectacular - no wonder your news station is broadcasting them! Sad to say it was too cloudy and rainy at the appointed time to see anything here. Thanks for giving a taste of the experience!
ReplyDelete- Anne
Awesome pictures! And now your famous, Kim. Now that was worth getting up for!!
ReplyDeleteDear Kim, Christmas greetings from our home to you and yours. I didn't get up for the eclipse so thank you for sharing your photos.

ReplyDeleteJim
Those are great shots, Kim! Now I feel like I have seen the eclipse, too. It was much too cloudy here. I didn't even try to see it. So, I'm very glad that you got the pleasure.
ReplyDeleteKim, these pictures are really terrific. Do you have a special lens for these? Amazing. So glad they used them on your news station. I can't believe I missed it. You're right--once in 15 lifetime chance to see this. Good for you!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing them
ReplyDeleteAND for staying up to take them!

Pawsome pictures! Thanks for sharing with us, Kim!
ReplyDeleteThe moon was glorious last night until 10:30. Then the clouds came over everything so we saw no eclipse at all. Glad you shared your photographs. They are great!
ReplyDeleteWhat great pictures you got of the eclipse!!! You must have a real good camera.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for taking them I didn't see it or any other pictures just yours!!
I have been having trouble leaving comments too!!
Tomorrow is my birthday!!
xx, Bambi & Fern
How fun that your picture was on the news! I didn't get up to see it though as A: it was cloudy here and B: even if it hadn't been, I had to get up for work int he morning and need as much sleep as I can mange this week since I have to pull a 9 hour shift beginning Friday at 5:00 P.M. and ending at 2:00 A.M. on Saturday morning. I did stay up for a lunar eclipse a few years back though, so that helped be resist the temptation since I do so love the moon :o)
ReplyDeletedidn't see it, other than on photos............can I have your autograph now that you are famous...LOL
ReplyDeleteGill in Canada
It started here at 10:33PM, thin clouds, but it could be seen. Had an early morning so I didn't watch for long. I can say I saw it though.
ReplyDeleteLady just schnoofled
