**Our local news was asking for pictures for their news broadcast, so I sent one of the above pictures in, and what do you know, they've shown it several times. A brief moment of celebrity!

Up Early For This?!
The Lunar eclipse and the winter solstice coincided for the first time since 1378. So how often do you get to witness an event that has not occurred since the year 1378 or 632 years ago--With that in mind and to the sound of the wind blowing through the trees and the crunching of something walking in the darkness that we couldn't see, from our front porch we captured these images of the eclipse...It was worth getting up early for. Did you see it too?

ReplyDeleteYes, we definitely were up for the lunar eclipse. It was pretty interesting and I was surprised at how fast it went, really. We had a big bowl of hot soup to warm us up after spending the time outside freezing to see the event, and it was all well worth it!

Alas, it was too cloudy here to view it -- but I did get a few shots after it cleared around 5 AM.

These are excellent photos Kim! I'm glad you stayed up and took photos. Hubby was trying to get me to as well. But that was way past my bed time. How fun that they are showing your photo on the local news!!

Those of us in the Chicago-land area were not able to see it as we were getting 4 inches of snow.

ReplyDeleteUGH, I thought I had submitted a comment but I don't see it so I'll try again...One, yes, I was up with my son who begged me to wake him at 2:00 so I did and we gazed at it for about 4 min. and went back upstairs...so I guess he could say I 'saw' it but didn't get the full effect until I showed him your pictures. He said, 'that's not what we saw!' well, he's right but hey, it was a memory!

We talked about staying up for it,but we went to sleep. At 1:34 Samba came to my side of the bed and licked my hand. She whimpered a little, so I got up, grabbed my robe and took her out the front door. I expected her to race into the grass to pee, but she just stood in the driveway looking at me. I looked up and saw the eclipse under way. She and I stood there and watched it. How did she know?

I spoke to my mom in Calgary last night and she was heading up to the big hill behind her house to watch the eclipse around midnight their time, and I was envious! No chance of seeing it here, with all the cloud cover. But seeing your photos made me feel a bit better!
Cloudy and snowy in Iowa..Missed it..Glad you took pictures.. Oh my goodness that had to have been a great and exciting moment to watch that. It's so beautiful~!

How fun that your picture was on the news! I didn't get up to see it though as A: it was cloudy here and B: even if it hadn't been, I had to get up for work int he morning and need as much sleep as I can mange this week since I have to pull a 9 hour shift beginning Friday at 5:00 P.M. and ending at 2:00 A.M. on Saturday morning. I did stay up for a lunar eclipse a few years back though, so that helped be resist the temptation since I do so love the moon :o)

It started here at 10:33PM, thin clouds, but it could be seen. Had an early morning so I didn't watch for long. I can say I saw it though.
