The Road Most Traveled
The road most traveled these days seems to be to the vets office. For the 3rd Saturday in a row, that's where we were, bright and early--Why do I always take the 8 AM appointment?
Today the appointment was for Josh. Late Thursday evening he was standing with his head down low, and turned toward his back-leg, and he wouldn't/couldn't stand straight--And when he walked, he walked in very slow circles, like a twirl. He wouldn't move his head, so I knew it was his neck and of course I was worried that he may have slipped a disc. To make it all the more worrisome, he wouldn't lay down, and just stood there, looking at me. I gave Josh a pain-pill, and we went to bed hoping he'd finally lay down and get some rest. I woke up a couple of hours later to Josh's whining, and his still standing in about the same place. Of course I became even more concerned, but eventually he did find a place to lay down. By morning there was a slight improvement. Once at work, I did a search on the internet which took me to a site that told about someone's dog who'd sprained their neck--I had no idea that was possible, did you? A lot of my worry about Josh left when he was wagging his tail and was definitely better by Friday afternoon. But just to be sure it was a sprained neck, I made an appointment for him to see the vet who confirmed what I thought. He's now on a muscle relaxer and rimadyl. He's still holding his head to his left a little, but he's moving it more, standing straighter and is no longer 'twirling' when he walks. Josh will be fine (I hope) in a few more days. But until he is, no tugging the frisbee with Sheba. Sheba is okay with that, and in the photo below you can see her on the right showing off to Josh on the other side of the fence that she has the frisbee all to herself!

Good Morning Kim! I do hope Josh is back to his normal self soon. mean time I guess Sheba is happy playing Frisbee by herself. Josh and Sheba are both cuties! Have a happy Sunday!
ReplyDeleteMorning Kim, oh my, never knew that, really something. So happy Josh will be ok. Love the pictures as usual, Enjoy the day, Francine.
ReplyDeleteThere`s always something new to be found out with living with dogs, isn`t there?
ReplyDeleteMy prayer is that he continues to heal & bless you for being a good mom .
Separate play areas for the dogs are a good idea, believe that is what I may have to do,,,,phyllis
Poor Josh. We hope he is feeling better soon. Lee and Phod
ReplyDeleteGood boy Josh! Take it easy.
ReplyDeleteHi Josh
ReplyDeleteWe hope your back to 100% very soon so can play Frisbee. Milo & Jet
oh, that last photo made me smile! poor little josh. get better and relax!
ReplyDeleteYep, we learned the hard way, we can strain anything you peeps can, and Bites strained his tail muscle even. Sucker Dad had to sit with him with the heating pad wrapped around it, then put an ace bandage on it for the next few nights, Oh Barharhar, what a site!

If a dog can sprain something they will !
ReplyDeleteI hope Josh will feel well soon. Our rottweiler once had the same problem with his neck. He got relaxants and painkillers and got well quite soon. Happy Sunday, Kim!
ReplyDeleteOh my, your Saturday mornings haven't exactly been relaxing. I hope Josh feels better soon and everyone stays well enough to sleep in next weekend.
ReplyDeleteInteresting, Kim but Golden Happy Josh is going to be alright. I've been going to the vet too (every 2 weeks) for weight check. Are you taking photos while driving? Have a relaxing Sunday. Golden LOVE to the Golden Pines Gang. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar
ReplyDeleteHoping Josh is better little by little or more, each day, yes, no more Frisbees for him for a while. They tell us in their own way when things are not as they should be .Hoping the same road stays snow-free, with safe driving, and used for anything but another vet visit. greetings from Jean.
ReplyDeleteSounds like Josh is gonna be OK, and thats wonderful. Poor guy standing up most of the night.
ReplyDeleteKeep us up on him and we will do POTP for Josh!
Jo, Stella and Zkhat
Josh was so intuitive to tell you what was wrong!!!!...:)JP
ReplyDeleteI'm glad he's getting better.
ReplyDeletenothing is worse when you know they're hurting so terribly!
ReplyDeletethey endure so much in silence that if they whine you know it must be bad.
my little cocker sara once tried to jump onto my bed and for some reason missed. she cried out and then held her head to one side and walked stiffly. a visit to the vet indeed revealed a sprained neck AND back. many many weeks until she was better. like a human really.
Poor Josh, the sweet lad must have wondered what had happened! Glad he is on the mend. Give him a gentle hug from me :)
ReplyDeletePoor Josh, that sounds painful. Reminds me of Floyd when he broke his tail... He just stood there and wouldn't move... Poor guy.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad it was only(yes only)a sprained neck; my first thought was a brain tumor. So glad he is getting better. My Sadie once sprained her tail-from swimming too long. I hope you have an easy week and wonderful Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Noreen
Blimey mates, we didn't know you could sprain your neck. We're so glad Josh is feeling better and we'll keep paws crossed you DON'T have to go to the Vet next Saturday!! Take care all. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory
ReplyDeletePoor Josh, but so glad that he is doing better and will be fine. Hope you have a wonderful rest of Sunday and a great week. Happy Thanksgiving. Ana
ReplyDeleteNever heard of that happening at all, Kim; but I'm glad to hear that's all it was.
ReplyDeleteHope Josh is back to normal by the time you read this. ♥
Oh Josh!! Feel the betterment!!
ReplyDelete-Bart, who also has neck issues...
I hope Josh is up playing frisbee with Sheba soon.
ReplyDeleteAroo to you,
Sully
Oh Josh- were sending some magic bubbles your way to make your neck and back feel better. Be sure to take your pills Josh- and you'll be better soon

Oh, Josh! I know how he loves his frisbee. Hopefully he will be better very soon. Poor little thing, he must have been so scared when it first happened. I can't even imagine how much pain he has been in.
ReplyDeleteI hope the girls are still doing well.
Every Saturday morning at the vet gets old, I bet.
take care.
Gus' Mom
We've had sprained kegs and tails so why not a neck? Glad to hear he's better.
ReplyDeleteI'm betting Josh is like Easton; balls to the wall when playing. At their age they can do some damage. Easton is limping around today (why I do not know), but he still wants to run full speed after the ball if I throw it. He pesters me all day. If Easton was an appliance, he would have two settings: PLAY and FULL SPEED - I'm betting Josh is the same.
