Happy Earth Day!!

Today is Earth Day! It was created with the intention of raising public awareness about a variety of environmental issues. These issues vary from year to year—air pollution, water pollution, habitat destruction, sustainable energy, climate change, species losses, and environmental policies. The list really is a broad one with complex solutions...On the flip-side, for most of us, if Earth Day is acknowledged, it's done so on a smaller scale, by acting on behalf of a single issue such as working to save an endangered species in your region or helping to discourage the use of pesticides in your neighborhood.
For me, I acknowledged the day by "celebrating nature" and all that was around me today...Here are a few pictures...
Our day started with a foggy sunrise...

And an interesting and complex looking spider web...

Then I admired how fast my flowers are growing in such a short time.
Of course the dandelions are coming up too, and I think this little butterfly is just fine with it!! Since it's Earth Day it was pretty appropriate that we had a bird come to the feeder that I've never seen before, and I was able to get a picture of. I found out from a friend that it is a "Rufous-Sided-Towhee." well, okay... Of course the dogs also enjoyed "Earth Day."

By digging a hole...again...

And eating grass...

And rolling in the grass... And running through the grass...

And refusing to walk on the grass...Gotta love cats...

Happy Earth Day!

What does it mean to you?

  1. Happy Earth Day to you too, Kim!

I guess I did my contribution, by saving energy, I didn't wash dishes, I didn't wash or dry clothes......

Spent some time thinking what (and how) we could do with the energy that I produce while on my exercise bike... a fan maybe?

  5. great photos Kim, I love the one of the cat, so funny.

Thanks for the info on flea control, the more I read the more I don't want to give anything to Molly, especially as she has such severe allergies and at the end of the day, using eith Frontline or Advantage, all I am doing is putting more chemicals into her body.

  6. Conservation is one of our main concerns here on Rocky Creek Farm, not just on Earth Day, but every day.

Happy Earth Day to you too.

  8. The hope for this earth lies within each of us to do our part; big or small. As max-consuming Americans, we need to vote with our pocketbooks, buying products and services that are as earth friendly as possible. Vote for candidates that are not in the pockets of polluting big businesses (yes there are some good ones out there). Recycle-reuse-car pool-plant a garden
Earth Day is our reminder that the earth is flat and getting smaller every day.

That's what it means to me.

  10. Happy Earth Day to you....albeit I'm a day late.
My contribution is to leave less, of my carbon footprint, and hopefully replenish, what I do take.
We bought six new trees last night, it's a start.
Lovely to see the dogs, and cats having a rambling time ;)

  12. Kim,
I always take Earth Day off at work, then I clean-up around the ditches and fields. Our country side neighborhood always looks great.
It was a beautiful day to be outside also.

  13. I spent Earth Day digging a new garden, so, I guess that's appropriate. You're a new blog for me. I've been poking around, and I think I'm going to like it here. Found you through Sharon's blog.

  14. Happy belated Earth Day to you too! I have been sooo busy with my pet sitting visits especially since it is school vacation week in New Hampshire this week and we've been preparing for that week with new client meetings, etc.
Love to see dogs rolling and scratching in the grass! I have a client who has 2 pugs who swears the grass "dancing" is because they are happy so if that's the case, they have been happy for 3 weeks straight! Without warning, Ace & Fenway attach themselves to the ground and expect me to rub their bellies and proclaim how pretty their bellies are at each and every incident! How lucky are dogs to have a belly rubbing massage!
