Finally it's Friday!!

Another sign of summer is Memorial Day! Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May. It was formerly known as "Decoration Day" and it commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service. It also means a 3 day weekend for me!! I'm looking forward to being off and catching up.

The weather is feeling like summer. Along with the arrival of lightning bugs we've had hot and humid weather here in Virginia which has brought with it evening thunder storms, which has made everything so green and lush. The honeysuckle is blooming everywhere too. I love its sweet smell which is filling the air all around us. While there doesn't seem to be a shortage of bugs, I'm not seeing very many honey-bees, and have yet to see a bat this year--I worry and wonder what's become of them...We did take the dogs for a walk last evening. They love exploring and being able to wander around, especially after a long day of our being gone. Our "little CarrieAnne" who is a golden mix, disappeared at the end of our walk. I knew where she'd gone; she had decided she wanted to cool off. Her wandering off isn't a problem because she never goes far and returns when called. But for the last 2 years she has gone to a place that only she knows about and takes a swim. I've no idea where her private swimming hole is, and by looking at this picture, she's not going to tell!
Finally I'll let you know that Tanner continues to improve. He's now feeling confident enough to go down the 2 steps outside on his own. He head is still tilting to the left, but I'm hopeful that given time this will go away. His stubborness has returned though, because when I reach down to grab his collar to lead him back inside, he tries to run off--A good sign that he's feeling better!! I hope you have an enjoyable weekend!!

I'm filling a kiddie pool for ours today. Problem is keeping them from splashing outside, then coming inside to shake it off!!!

  12. Summer sure is here! I have noticed the lack of bees (not wasps though)my few veggie blossoms are being ignored and just fall off.

  21. So glad that Tanner is doing better. That's a relief. CarrieAnne looks like quite a fun loving girl. Cute!

I love the smell of honeysuckle too, and when I was a kid I used to give the bees a run for their money because I used to pick the flowers and suck the juice. I managed not to get sick, so I guess they are not poison.

    Enjoy the holiday!

  22. How funny, a private swimming hole.

  23. Funny, Carrie Ann actually looks like she's smiling or grinning (I can't decide which) and I love that she looks like she does have a devious look in her eyes!
It is also funny that she took off somewhere and you don't know the location because that happened to me this week while walking Fred the Wheaten terrier (you are such a faithful commenter that I'm confident you've seen his wet self in 2 of my recent posts)! There I was walking along and he disappeared but I knew he walked down a little hill near the water and when he returned a few minutes later his lower body was a lot darker than the rest of him! Gosh, I love that dog (obviously) so much that I even have to write about him in the comments section! I'm smitten and sad that I won't see him every week b/c he moved more than 30 minutes out of our range of service.
Anway, I am remiss to tell you that I am awfully sorry that you had to put Maguire down but as I mentioned to you, it was the best thing for the poor old man and I'm sure he knew you were sad to lose him.
I love your additions in your margin! We get to see your lovely face and your crew now! You are getting savvier and savvier every day! Now you need to get Feedjit so you can see who is stopping by everyday!
    Take care....April

  24. I hope that you and "the gang" have a wonderful and restful weekend. Get out there and enjoy your lovely gardens, wonderful dogs, and maybe grill up something yummy!

Love the picture of Carrie Anne. She looks quite proud of herself!

  25. Hi Kim
So good to hear Mr Tanner is improving, and getting stubborn again!
I was jsut sitting here looking at the photos flashing on the side bar.
What gorgous photos of all the pups,
Now we can smell that Honey Suckle blooming. Your home must be a paradise. I can just imagine it in my head. I want to run those hills with all your doggies and I want to go to that secret swimming hole
    of Carrieann's.
Then lets sit and watch some lightning bugs and have some toasted marshmellow

  26. enjoy your weekend, and try and get some rest!! I will be using your quote that you suggested, and am posting my forward for the book on my blog tomorrow.

    Thanks again,

    Gill in Canada

  27. That is such a sly smile! We hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day!

  28. Carrie Anne is smiling from ear to ear Bless her ! Dillon has several secret wallowing pools too.
My honeysuckle isn't out yet - I planted one last year but in my old garden I had a superb mature one which mingles with Clematis & Jasmine- heavenly !

  29. Yay for Tanner...keep up the good work boy!!!
Carrie Anne and my Labs would be great friends, looking for swimming holes together.

Honeysuckle and wisteria are 2 of my favorites fragrances...

Hugs to you and belly rubs to the pups,

  30. Your post reminded my mum of the smell of honeysuckle - something that she hasn't seen or smelt for ages. Have a great Memorial weekend, and we are glad Tanner is continuing to improve.

  31. Hey Ms. Kim,
Jubal is our swimmer. If he gets out the front door or escapes from the paddock he's off. We know he goes in Lake Anna but we're not sure who's dock or beach he's using. Dad tracked him a couple of times and both times he was partying with the summer weekenders or lake house renters. He comes back after about 30 minutes looking just like Carrie Ann.
