Round Two for Bubba

The second swim-session for Bubba was on Thursday. It went so much better than the first one, and he was much happier and so was I! I've taken dogs swimming that haven't enjoyed it at all, and I've felt like I'm mistreating them because I know how difficult it is for them; especially when you look into their eyes which are asking you why are you making them do something that they simply do not enjoy? But we all know that therapy of any kind is never easy...

Bubba did "graduate" to the big pool and we doubled his amount of time in the water. He didn't seem to mind at all. He continues to have problems getting out of the pool, but it was made easier because the ramp to help them get out is not nearly as steep.

Bubba's second session ended with him smiling and wanting to go back into the pool, but this time it was us telling him he'd had enough for the day. I'm looking forward to taking him again on Sunday. This morning for the first time he was playing with a couple of stuffed toys. Maybe the endorphins from the exercise is making him feel better? Or maybe it's because Sheba wasn't playing with them.

It's a beautiful but very hot day here in Virginia. But my friend and I are going to brave the heat and go to Mount Vernon, which is the home of George Washington. It's a beautiful place and not far from Krispy Kreme Doughnuts--Do you think George and Martha would have liked that too? ~~Enjoy your Friday!!~~

  1. I am so happy for you and Bubba that things went so well for him yesterday!
Have a great time on your visit and have a doughnut for me as there is no Krispy Kreme anywhere near me...*sigh*...
I think George would have loved doughnuts, men back then had hearty appetites and zero fear of the consequences of overeating! Lucky *&^%$(&

  2. What a beautiful picture of Bubba.

I think I would brave the heat most any day to see beautiful Mt. Vernon - just to sit on that wonderful back porch and watch the Potomac. Enjoy!!
    And bring back pictures.

  3. I am so glad it went so well for Bubba! Atta boy! Makes you wish you had a pool, huh? Me too!

Terribly hot, I am at that point where I want to go outside, but the heat makes me sick. I hope you enjoy your trip to Mt. Vernon!

  4. Bubba Boo definitely looks bette this time, and it sounds like swimming is doing him tons of good!
    Have a great, cooler weekend!
I will be thinking of you as I make a stop at KK on my way to the mountains tomorrow- I am leaving for a certification training for my job.

  5. Wow, look at how happy Bubba looks. You know, when the trainers take their horses to the pool to swim, they most always bounce back to the stable. So, maybe it is the endorphins at work that had Bubba playing.

Have a great time at Mt. Vernon. Are you going to eat at their restaurant? I haven't been in a few years, but, the last time I went, the food was wonderful.

  6. Bubba is one lucky puppy! It's obvious by his expression that he know it too.

After your adventures out in the heat today, you'll be wishing YOU could jump in the pool.

    Have a great weekend!

  7. Hey there Kim...
I'm so happy that Bubba is coming along. I do indeed see enjoyment/satisfaction in his eyes. You are so wonderful how you care for these Goldens...our Golden angel!!! Now...go and enjoy the doughnuts - you sure do deserve it! Hope the weather cools down for you all.
    Sending lotsaluv

  11. How was the English gent today??
    Glad Bubba likes it

  12. He's so adorable! I'm glad he's doing better!

  13. I'm so happy Bubba's 2nd swim treatment went well...He's smiling for sure!

Be honest, are you braving the heat for the history or the glazed doughnuts?
    Have fun,

  14. He is looking so much happier!
