I hope everyone is doing well as 2011 approaches. Work the last couple of weeks has been busier than usual because of the holidays and kids home from college. It led me to come home exhausted, especially this week with 3 of my coworkers on vacation. This week was also one in which patients gave some interesting 'excuses' about why they haven't been flossing. These excuses ranged from feeling that 'it was just to spooky to have pieces of food come out when flossing,' to another patient saying, 'I don't like to floss because my fingers get really sore when I wrap the floss around them.' And the gold metal winner was the 16 year old boy who is convinced that his chewed-off fingernails do a better job of cleaning in between his teeth than floss does. You can't make this up...
Put all that together, and you can see why I'm glad that I won't have to return to work until Tuesday. I'm looking forward to catching up on things around the house, e-mails and blogs. I'll maybe even sneak in a nap or two.

Kim,
ReplyDeleteIt is a lovely day for a nap...I could curl right up next to Hamlet! :)
I think the rest of your family is taking naps for you, by proxy.
ReplyDeleteMogley G. Retriever
I bet you have all sorts of stories from work! Made me chuckle. Especially the "at least he remembered me." :)
ReplyDeleteI adore your sleeping angels!!! I hope you get some rest too!
HeeHee, that'll teach you for being a witch on Halloween! My kids all had their own little fits for what ever reason, when they went to the dentist!
ReplyDeleteYep, you need a break! It has been a rough year for you, naps are in order. The kids seem to know what is best. :-)
Kim, my Mom worked for dentists for years... General, Periodontal, Endodontist. Got bit so bad while taking an impression once that the doctor had to pry the patient's mouth open. Worse than a dog bite, Mom says! Rest up. Tucker
ReplyDeleteLove all those photos of those sleeping lovelies! As my lurcher cross Rosie would say though, they are coiled springs waiting for action!
ReplyDeleteNice to be remembered as a witch!
xx
I'm no help, my hygienist has given up trying to get me to floss. I just can't get to those back ones, the mouth is too small. So, I use those Stim-U-Dent things and hope for the best.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you have some time off. The holidays are so enjoyable, but they can be very tiring. Enjoy yourself, and get some rest. Looks like you'll have plenty of company.
Those are some original, but lame excuses. The animals can teach us how to relax. I'm sure you will learn quickly! Take it easy and have a happy new year. Lady and I are back home in Seattle and enjoying (at least for the next couple of days) the best weather on the west coast.
ReplyDeleteHa ha... I'm still laughing about the witch. Now that was funny. These pictures are just priceless. (yawn)... they make me want to curl up right beside... um... ((yawn)) Charlie... and just lay my head on his softness and take a nap with him. (((Yawn)))
ReplyDeleteKim, enjoy your next days off, you sure do deserve a break. Happy New year!!
Hi Kim
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures! My Neeli would love to join your gang!

Hi Kim, As always your blog makes me smile-I love seeing your pups & cat asleep-it would seem this is the time of year to take lots of naps.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year my friend!

Was reading through the blog when I suddenly sat up with a start. Wilfs long lost cousin is in the 4th photo down . Uncanny !
ReplyDeleteThose are some pretty priceless excuses for not flossing...I love all the pictures of your nappy critter, it makes me want to nap too!
ReplyDeleteFunny stories (i'm an early retired dentist). Just want to say bless you for giving all those dogs a cozy home. Hope all good things come to you. I lost my 6 yr red golden in oct. My husband is too devastated to get another, she was his doggy "soul mate." So I am vicariously enjoying the sweet pics of your goldens. give them hugs from me!! Happy new year
ReplyDeleteHi Kim,
ReplyDeleteLove the sleepy faces!!
I don't know how any older adult could not floss. I floss after I eat anything!!
Thanks for your visits and kind words about my G-daughter. I love her to pieces!! She is having a very fun life!!
xx, Bambi & Fern
Enjoy your New Year!
ReplyDelete:-)
Hi Kim,
ReplyDeleteI love the flossing excuses. Your post today made me wonder (with your background in dental care)if you brush all your dog's teeth every day, as in our New Zealand TV and newspaper news last week there was the results of a survey which said "98 percent of pet owners were failing to meet basic health care needs of their pets by not brushing their teeth daily" Based on that survey I fail to meet Riley's basic needs, but the cynical side of me noticed the survey was commisioned by a pet food company launching new dental chew sticks - however I have my own reasons for not brushing Riley's 4 year old teeth (he cleans them himself chewing biscuits and bones - plus has a yearly vet check, no visable signs of plaque and his breath doesn't smell) - but perhaps I'm just making excuses. To brush or not to brush... that is the question!
I stumbled upon your blog and am glad I stopped by. I love Goldens, though my own sweet Gal died several years ago. I'm afraid I'm not partial to dentists, though I do have a good one. (And - I floss!) Happy New Year to you and Family!
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely time for a nap!
ReplyDeleteYes Kim....do as the dogs do! Relax and forget the floss excuses. Great pics of the 'crew'. Happy New Year Kim.

It looks very peaceful. A nap sounds like a great idea. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteAt least yours know how to take a decent nap -- I tried laying down today and I was presented with a squeaky orange football full of slobber. I think it was a late Christmas present.
ReplyDeleteI floss, occasionally. That's like being sort of pregnant?
Love the photos. Hugs to Hamlet and all your poochies.
I hate to floss.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Nap Central at your house!
Haha that was really funny Kim!
ReplyDeleteI am a dental phobic so I bet I could make up some interesting ones for you if I was a patient!
Love the pics of the sweeties all napping...yawn...I think it's working. Have a great evening Kim!
Tina xo
So CUTE!!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you both....oh & all the doggies! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I'm so happy you have some time off to relax and recuperate! I wish you a quiet, restful, Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteWe took a nap today! I hope you got yours too.
ReplyDeleteKisses,
Emma Rose
PS. The Duchess hated to floss because she didn't like to put her hands in her mouth. Then the Dentist gave her a "Reach Access Flosser" and she loves it. No more excuses, and a very happy Dentist too!
We had to nap before we could leave a comment!
ReplyDeletemmmm...naps! Those excuses would be funny if I wasn't imagining some teenage boy smiling and having finger nails sticking out from between his teeth...yuck!
ReplyDeleteThat reminds me, I need to floss more!! LOL
ReplyDeleteHave a good break, Kim. You deserve it. I know I'll enjoy this weekend with family and friends.
Paige
I love those excuses!!! "Spooky stuff coming out from between my teeth..." is the best!
ReplyDeleteI love the scenes of dogs in your house! Your house looks like a wonderful place to be. Curl up with Hamlet for a nap sounds perfect. Get some rest.
I promise...I flossed last night, LOL! :)
