Winner of This Round - Hamlet!

~Josh, left & Rudi~
The weather the last couple of days could not be more beautiful!  The warmth of the sun and cooler temperatures has given everyone more energy!  We started our afternoon with a round of frisbee.

~Hamlet~
Once the dogs were worn out, we came back in just in time to get a call from the vet about the results of Hamlet's culture.  I was so sure it would be bad news for him, just goes to show you what I don't know.  Last time there were six different kinds of bacteria found in this same wound.  This time there are only two.  One is a strain of e-coli, but it's not the 'really bad' one that was there last time.  The other is a staff infection. The bottom line is that it's treatable with the antibiotic Augmentin that we'll put him on for 6 weeks.  I don't know if it's because I'm still worn out, but I found myself feeling humbled and thankful for this news.  I know it doesn't mean that this will be the end of the problems with this tumor--I know it is going to continue to grow and be an ongoing problem.  But I feel like right here and right now now, we've won this round against it.

  2. What a beautiful peony. Those are such lovely flowers. I miss being able to grow them here in the desert. My daughter and her husband are going through something very similar with their dog. What a worry for you all. I hope things start going better!

  4. Yea Hamlet!! Our Mom took Augmentin when she had that throat infection that wouldn't go away. It made her tummy upset, but it cured the infection. We all needed some good news, it feels like it's been a long time since we've had any.

  14. ditto to everything you said. When we take care of our babies that are sick and older, we are able to see the good in the news. I think that it is good news too and we just take one day a time. You know it could be so much worse and are grateful for the positives.

  27. I want you to know Kim, I have a bit of hesitation coming to your site and it's not that I don't love it because I do; I'm so fearful I will log on and something will have happened to Hamlet so I am joyful and elated with the news of the report of the cultures. Thank you God!
Also, Charlie is beautiful regardless of his haircut and I'm certain so much cooler in this heat!

    Take good care of yourself...
    hugs to Hamlet!

  41. Oh my gosh! Bless your heart! Goldens are my favorite. They are just the sweetest! Love your photo on June 2nd with them all on the porch. The two in the back look just like our last goldens, Clifford and Timber. I miss them terribly. After Clifford was gone, we got a golden-doodle, Henri', and now Timber is gone, so it's just Henri'. Love the snow pix, love them all! What a life with all those goldens! Will return!
