What's In a Name

Borrowing the words from an 'Eagles' tune, 'the sky won't snow and the sun won't shine,' pretty much sums up our weekend as the cold weather and clouds seemed content to stay around.  It's times like this, when we're home and its cold that I start looking on the internet for something to bake.  One website that I looked at had cookie recipes that sounded promising.

I don't know about you, but for me, there's something about having a name in a recipe that tells you immediately that whatever it is, it's going to be good!  At least this is what I think when I see a recipe with 'My Grandmother's' or 'Mrs ---' in its name.  I just feel like I should automatically trust the recipe, and make it right then.  I also feel this way about church cookbooks.  But this is exactly what I thought about a cookie recipe I came across called 'Mrs. Siggs Snickerdoodles.'  I don't know who Mrs. Sigg is, but she she had a pretty good (and easy) recipe for snickerdoodles!  Because I am a bit of a chocolate person, especially on days like today, it takes a lot for me to make something without chocolate in it somewhere.  But I made them yesterday and for whatever reason, we just didn't seem to have enough, so I baked them again today.  It just seemed like the thing to do.  There were no complaints from Carl.

When I wasn't baking, I tried to spend as much time as I could outside with the dogs. They really do enjoy even the smallest amount of snow.  However, I'm really hoping for more.
~Sheba~
But like the cookies, what we have will just have to do for now.  Its been good enough for the weekend.  I hope you've had a 'good enough' weekend too!

Sheba's injury appears to be healing, along with her zest for happy dances. That's good news too.

  12. We can have a cookie swap, lol. I'll trade you some cocoons for some snickerdoodles?? Lol, I don't want tornadoes tonight, but I don't want your snow either, even if it is just a little bit. Ya'll stay warm.

  13. If I could, I would send some of our snow down there for you, Kim. We've got some to spare :o)

  14. The cookies look just like my sister's, wish I had ingredients.

This weather is the worst - so gloomy, not cold, but it might as well be. Fog lasted all day - until it started to rain. I miss some sunshine.

I see Sheba's leg, but can't tell how well it's healing. Did you give the dogs each a cookie?

  15. Are there any left from the 2nd batch? yummm. Cludy days are made for baking and being with the dogs.

  16. Oh my, those cookies are making my mouth water!!!! Whenever K gets sick, I have trouble eating... and I lose weight. Maybe I should start baking...

Love the photos of the happy dogs in the snow. You sound like an Alaskan (rather than a Virginian) with your yearning for snow!

  17. Those cookies sound fantastic! Fall is when I always get the urge to bake. It's all the apples everywhere and the thousands of favorite recipes I have for them! I could take or leave cooking most days, while hubby really enjoys it, but I enjoy baking.

I don't miss snow too much after all we got last year, but I wouldn't mind getting a little. We had fabulous hikes to the frozen waterfalls last year, and I would actually enjoy doing that some more this year!

  18. Woof! Woof! We do know how you enjoy chocolates ... you got lots of those in your Pnterest. Mom also enjoys chocolate (it's her breakfast when she was in college). Good to see Golden Happy Goldens enjoying snow ... more snow on your way... Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar

  26. The cookies look really good. I just don't like the kitchen. I watch cooking television shows and always get so excited to cook what they are making, but when I get to the kitchen I think of the mess and pass.
Sheba's leg looks like it is healing nicely. The dogs really seem like they are enjoying the weather.
Glad you are enjoying your weekend.

  29. Sounds like the perfect weekend to me...our dogs love to roll in the snow too, I think it's their version of bathing! Keep warm and give all those dogs a hug for me!

  30. I would settle for some snow, just a little snow, but no. It is raining though and that's a good thing. Just like your cookies look like a very good thing. And the dogs are so cute.

  31. the day you described is the kind my mother used to call "we have to light all the corners, kind of day."
she had a cosy, rather english way of decor, now that i think about it. there were always small lamps in the corners. like a friendly library. and on cold, grey days with that cold white light, she would just light the corners. then... she would bake!
this post brought back happy memories for me!
and the doggy pics... can't get enough!
    love,

  32. i So wish I could experience your 'winter season' at some point in my life. It sounds so enviting: Enticing Chocolate, crunchy cookies, Goldens in the snow and the atmostphere of old-times past.
How on earth do you make cold weather sound so attractive?

  35. My gosh those cookies look so yummy. It's pretty obvious that the pups love the snow. I hope they get as much as they want.

  36. Kim,
Your dogs are having a great time in the snow. Maybe they wanted to build a snowman.
When it is cold outside nothing is better than something from the oven, I think that was a Pillsbury commercial of sorts at one time.

  37. Exactly what I like to do in this cold weather......bake and cook! Yes, those cookies wouldn't last long around here either!

  40. Hi Kim and all the Pups,
I am not a baker any more. When I had boys and they were young I did some baking and when my youngest was about 15 he started baking and no one else needed too!! He is still baking but for a living now!!
He is over 50 years old now. Where does the time go!!!
