Gone to the Dogs!

My weekend was all about dogs!  It started out by my finding a black lab on the highway.  A couple of people were stopped trying to catch him.  I opened my van door to get a leash and he jumped in. When I looked around, everyone had suddenly disappeared, and I was left with this rambunctious happy boy who was wondering what the next chapter of his adventure would be.  Not knowing exactly what do to next, besides take him home with me, I took him to our county animal control--Probably not what he had in mind.  But he was in great shape and had 2 collars on, but no tags so my hope is that someone will be looking for him.  Just in case they aren't, to make sure nothing happens to him, I put my name down as a possible adopter for him.  And just to cover another base, so his owners know where to look, I later put up posters in the area saying that a young black lab had been found and taken to animal control.  Paws crossed that he finds his way back home!

I have to admit that usually I take a found dog home with me and hope I can find the owners.  But I was on my way to our friends house to take pictures of their new addition, Parker. I have to admit that I caught puppy fever all over again!  But when I'm reminded of all of the things that a really young puppy needs, I'm thankful that our puppy, Todd, who is now almost 10 months old, is past all of that!

We had little bit of wet, sloppy snow as the day was ending.  It didn't last long, but the dogs, especially Todd, enjoyed each and every flake that he could catch or chase.
Finally, thank-you for sending good thoughts for Lucas!  I heard from the rescue that they have approved his treatment!  He'll have his first surgery this Wednesday.  Until then, his stalking and love affair with our cat, CC, continues.

Great news about Lucas! I'm watching Puppy Bowl as I read blogs, and I'm falling in love with all of the puppies, and I, too, am forcing myself to remember ALL the work involved. Hope the Lab finds his family!!

Oh I so hope the lab finds his home. Thank you for stopping.
Glad Lucus is getting what he needs. He sure does better with cats than me. MOM wishes I would be nice to them. Don't know why I'm not.
Blessings,
Goose

The last photo is priceless. CC looks like he's pretending that Lucas isn't there. I wonder if Lucas used to have his own cat? I'm so happy his surgery was approved and I hope he has an easy time with his recovery. He looks so much more shiny and healthy already.

Our dog has a weird stalker relationship with our cats, too. Very neat that you caught the act on camera!

Hi Kim
I just bet the owners will come forward and claim the black lab.
It was nice you stopped and was able to catch him before something bad happened to him.
Yeaaa that Lucas's dental stuff will be taken care of. He will be feeling soo much better soon.
Little Parker puppy is adorable! What a cute photo of the little button nose!
And also CC and Lucas- what a precious photo!

Yea for Lucas getting his dental treatments! We'll be keeping our paws crossed for him on Weds. and throughout his treatment. CC must like her chances, to lie so close to him.

Sure glad you saved the little Lab. Hope he does have a good if careless or unlucky family looking for him. Please let us know when you call on Monday to find out if he has been claimed.

Parker is a cutie. Maybe he can come play with Todd sometime.

So glad that Lucas will be able to get his treatment done. Like they say, good things come to those who wait. He has definitely waited long enough to be taken care of, and whom better than you and your husband.
You have a wonderful open heart. Thank God for people like you.
I hope the lost puppy get back home and if not he can find a good home to go to. Parker is just adorable.
Hope you have a wonderful week and hope all goes well for Lucas on wednesday.

That's wonderful news about Lucas. Whenever my mom took us to the dentist when we were kids, we got to have a milkshake on the way home. I wonder what Lucas's post-dental treat will be?!

We hope the Lab boy finds his home. We're happy for Lucas. Having all his teeth pulled sounds awful, but imagine the pain he must be living with now.

I am so glad that you were able to rescue the Lab and save him from being run over. They do seem to have a bit of a roaming instinct - our neighbours' one heads straight here if ever they leave the gate open!

Firstly, that is great news for Lucas and hope all goes well on Wednesday for him. Secondly, I reckon all dogs in your area must know about you, this black lab must have heard you were on the road and made sure he was there to meet you!... and oh isn't that puppy just gorgeous.

I love that last picture. How happy Lucas must be in his new home. And so great to hear his treatments have been approved. That must be a really good rescue you work with. All the best to the black lab.

oh yay!!! help for little lucas. it just had to be. maybe they read your blog!
puppy faces. just seeing a picture lifts my heart.
i visit a blog whose writer is owned by a beautiful weimaraner named atlas. and atlas simply loves kitties. he will lie and watch them for ages. or he will just stand and look at them in a tree. he just loves kitties. maybe lucas is the same. no lunging or agressive moves, they just seem to be mesmerized by the cat!
it's so like you to rescue another doggy while out and about. you saved him from being hit by a car no doubt! hope all turns out well for him.
love,
tammy j

Great news about Lucas. He is going to feel so much better afterwards. I love that he has this relationship with your cat. We have a friends dog that comes over quite a bit and does the same thing. She just follows and stares at our cats with her ears all perky. Very cute.

I had to chuckle when you said everyone disappeared after he jumped in your van. God bless you for your caring spirit, where would all of these poor critters be without you?
P.S. Puppy Fever is rampant at Sall Farm please don't show us any cute pics of puppies!!!!

Here's hoping the little Lab has a microchip. (AND that they owners have updated the information.)

Great news about Lucas. Poor guy in one sense and extremely lucky guy in another.

Ten-month-old Todd is STILL a puppy, Kim.

Thank you for saving that Lab! I've done that many many times... catching a dog by the street and taking him or her home (or to a shelter, if needed). You are such a good-hearted woman!

I'm so glad about Lucas!
