Good to see the Good

My days for the most part are fairly mundane and routine.  As you all know, I have no problem with that because I really love routine and that certain rhythm that hums in the background of the day.  And there's no doubt that I'm really accustomed to the pace at which our lives move.

Aside from all that has happened with Carl, (who is still on crutches), rarely in our lives are there big or grand events, rather most days are made up of the same things, only repeated in slightly different ways.  My goal is to live simply and stick to the routine as closely as I can.  Yet there are some days that my life, or anyone's for that matter, is anything but simple and anything but easy or routine. But I wouldn't trade my life for anything, because even when it's not all that easy, something inside me always helps me to really see the good and the positive.
So today when Todd jumped up and grabbed a towel off the counter, that had a pan of freshly made tomato cream sauce (that was for tonight's dinner) cooling on top of it and it fell onto the floor, splattering all over my kitchen rug, I tried to not get upset--Because the rug, the floor, the stove and cabinets needed a good cleaning anyway--Yes, as hard as it really was this time, it's always a good idea to try and see the good. Don't you agree?

  9. Oh Oh! Fudge used to steal dish towels too. Then one day I had some pottery drying on towels on the kitchen counter. He grabbed one and a piece of pottery came down and shattered. The good? He never counter surfed again.

    Have a happy Valentine's Day.

  12. Monday, when The New Guy ate a box of fudge and had to go to the vet and get charcoal and other meds, I was glad that I would not be tempted by the fudge. Otto is fine. And actually has not counter surfed in the last couple of days come to think of it :-)

  15. Kim, you are such a good Mom! I tend to take the blame for things like this in that leaving a towell hanging down is asking for it.Stella doesn't counter surf, but I doubt she could resist a hanging towell!
By the way, I tried our soup with navy beans last week and it was just terrific. Can't make a mistake with that recipe!

    Cheers and hugs,

  17. I would have had a total conniption fit to have to clean that up... YOU my dear have much more patience than I.

  18. Ok, I definitely need alittle of what you take to make you so calm in situations like those. I would have freaked out and been extremely upset, because Roscoe knows better than to grab what is not his. And not to mention having to clean all that sauce that probably splashed everywhere. So if you know of anything that I can take not to freak out in situations like these, please let me know.
Todd is such a ham, how could you even be upset with him. Ana

  35. I am impressed that you can be so positive about all that mess!! I also prefer the mundane. I think many people think I am a misery for it but I take joy in trundling along at my own pace enjoying normal everyday life. Have a good weekend. Lily. xxx

  36. BOL - years ago, my sister's Golden chewed a hole in the wall from their bedroom into the bathroom. However, it did reveal that their tub had been leaking for years and had rotted out some of the floor and wall behind it... So yes, it is important to see the good behind the bad things that happened! :D

  37. Oh poor little Todd! Usually it's me who knocks the pot over so I know how he must feel!
Yep trying to see the good side to each event is the best way to go in these challenges times..:)

  39. Such a great post. Being positive does help. Our pets are so much part of our family. When they do something, such as you described, it's hard to be mad at them. Enjoy your blessed sweeties.

  40. When you said "Todd", "towel", and "stove", I prepared myself for something awful Leave it to the terrier to be the one to reinforce the 'look toward the positive' part of your personality. Bad, bad, bad doggie ... sweet, sweet doggie, really.

  41. Well I bet Todd got the shock of his life when it all crash on the floor! If left alone Todd would probably had licked it all up for you.

  49. Oh Todd, you are such a little shit sometimes. Lovable but naughty.
I see Todd, Carrie Ann and (I think) Lucas.

Easton decided he would inspect, but not eat a bag of chip laying wide open on the coach. There was a big pool of drool on the couch and in the bag, but no chips were touched. Wish I could have caught that on video. The couch needed wiping down anyway.

  51. I try to do this too, but sometimes it's really hard and I think that is depending upon my mood. If I'm in a foul mood to begin, then I can never find the good. :-(

  52. Oh dear me! I always try to see the good in situations as well and usually succeed, but if one of my two cats had knocked a pot of sauce off the counter I would have blown a gasket!
