A Snow Day -- Finally!!

For the past several days I have waited in anticipation at what I hoped would come, *SNOW*!!  A snowstorm is unusual for March, but the weathermen were so sure and I was hopeful they were right.  This year has been a good year for snow for everyone else, but for me it has had its disappointments where several snow storms were predicted to hit our area but they always somehow managed to miss us.  Finally, today we were blessed with snow and my office closed right along with everything else in our county!

As a kid growing up on an army post, I remember all the county schools would be closed because of the weather, and it was extremely rare that my siblings and I would get to hear those beautiful words on the radio that we so longed for, "Fort Knox Schools closed today."  So I think that's why that now, even at my age, the prospect of a snow day thrills me!

I have decided that the anticipation of a snow day is almost as good or better than the actual snow day; the idea of sleeping a little later is almost better than the actual sleeping in, that feeling of no responsibility for a day that allows you to simply enjoy being a person. Yes, you know that you’re going to have to think about everything tomorrow, but the load somehow feels much lighter and the pressure is taken off of you. It’s a psychological thing I’m sure, but it's a nice feeling to say the least.

So the dogs and I spent a lot of time outdoors today.  Their muddy and wet paw-prints from the quickly melting snow were all over the house.  But afterwards I enjoyed a cup of hot chocolate and we all enjoyed the comfort of a warm nap together.  All the things that this girl who didn't get snow days growing up, really loves.

  11. Snow days somehow make me feel guilty for taking the time off. Glad you enjoyed the time, maybe you could teach me how to sit back and relax rather than shoveling the snow off of the walks and driveway.
Thanks for stopping by today Kim.

  13. SHE remembers that glorious feeling when hearing that there was a Snow Day! No sleeping in, you had to be out in it!

Our VA relatives have been hanging out for a Snow Day.

Looks like all the dogs enjoyed it tremendously.

  17. Snow is such a strange concept for me. It NEVER snows where we live... And my peep has NEVER seen it... She has no idea what it looks or feels like in real life...

  19. Could you please send us some snow, even if just a little. Our weather is 46 this morning, but that won't last long. By 11am it will probably be back up to the 70's and the sun will burn you. But thats what happens when you live in the sunshine state. Hugs from Florida. Glad you and the dogs were able to enjoy the snow. TFS ana

  28. Hi Kim, I so enjoyed the warm sunshine in AZ. but so glad I'm home to take care of my Hunter. That is alot of snow; I bet Todd loves it as much as Hunter does-he constantly rolls around in it, rubs his head and ears in it. I got more meds today from the vet and I'm hoping they work-he has already eaten some baby food. Stay home warm and safe.

  30. I love those days too, especially when it is suggested that you don't leave the house, so all you have to do is....nothing. :-)

  32. Snow days are beautiful! When i was growing up, my Dad was principal of the elementary school, and when the superintendent decided to call off school, he'd call the principals in town, and Dad started to call all the teachers. I always knew before practically anyone! :D I think that was one of the few perks of my father being the Principal. Otherwise, i used to hope he'd get another job someday! lol.

Glad you enjoyed your very special snow day, Kim!
