Her Best Day

I've worked every day this week, and with Carl still home recovering its left very little free time. But the week has ended on a good note with warmth and sunshine. My work day ends early on Friday so I quickly got my errands done and hurried home so the dogs and I could spend some time outdoors.
~Sheba (left) and Josh~
Also spending time outdoors with us was Cissy.
~Lucas (left) and Cissy~
The change in her as we near the end of her second week with us, is nothing short of miraculous.  The vet caring for Cissy, who is not my regular vet but one I totally trust, told me at the start of the week to not be too hopeful about Cissy fully recovering. I reluctantly agreed with her, but it was only because of the difficult first week Cissy had with us--The thought that tough (and final) decisions would have to be made were very seriously being discussed with the vet and the rescue during those first several days.  But as this week passed, and I was seeing improvement in how she was feeling, and that her strength and appetite were returning, I couldn't (and can't) help but be optimistic and hopeful that Cissy will regain her health. There is no doubt as the video below shows, that she still has some hurdles to get over because her health and especially her skin issues are a result of long time neglect, and won't be 'cured' in just a matter of a few weeks.  But the video also shows that there is no doubt whatsoever that she is feeling better and Cissy thinks she is too--And today when she was standing in the yard, she was telling everyone about it who would listen.  I think it was her best day.

  2. I am alive and feeling better and someone loves me and is taking care of and I AM GOING TO BE JUST FINE. That is what sweet little Cissy is saying. That despite no one caring for her physically or mentally and having a hairless tail and skin issues, we are going to continue to see wonderful improvement. I bet we will see that golden tail, bushy and full in no time.
Thank you Kim and Carl and all of golden pines!!!

  13. She's got the perfect medicine...LOVE!!! It really does amaze me how resilient dogs can be. I am following a story of a full grown GSD that was severely neglected and left to die (weighing only 35 lbs.) just horrible treatment to the girl named Sassy and she is recovering. All because someone stepped up and cared...just like you and Carl.
Bless you and you tell em Cissy!!!

  17. Kim,
I can't believe it. She looks so much stronger and her movement is improving also. Helps that her nails are cut and she is getting lots of love, food, fresh air and is with friends. The best part is her wagging that tail for all to see and her barking to the world.
    Have a great weekend.

  23. How wonderful to see her go from where she was when she first arrived to this. What I saw in the video is, as you said, miraculous. And look at Lucas! He looks so clean and spiffy, maybe he will go a courting Cissy once she gets better. I do remember how he looked too when he first arrived. He looks really great now.

  36. Hi Kim- so happy its your weekend now and can enjoy a little outside time with the dogs.
We agree with the words that Sophie said,,, Cissy is saying she feels good- thanks to all of you and your love. We know how hard it is on you to see a furry come to you in such sad shape- and in your heart- you hang onto hope.
We know you love her- and she knows it too.
