The Flock

We arrive at the middle of the week with severe thunderstorms moving through the area this evening.  The 5 chicks that have been occupying our time left yesterday.  They joined a bigger flock that were hatched in the classroom of an elementary school and we figure they are a little more than a week older than "my chicks."  The children at their new home were excited to meet the new additions.
Taking care of the chicks was a good experience, and I am looking forward to having my own little flock when the time is right. But until that right time comes, I'm content to read about yours, and care for my flock that has 4 legs.

  1. Little chicks need so much TLC, heat lamps, careful feeding etc., wonderful they have a special new home, and your own 4 legged family will continue with their TLC as always. Greetings from Jean.

  2. Wonderful that you got to spend a little time taking care of some little chicks, but your current flock is probably glad that ALL of your attention is now on them! Be safe! The storms have been just awful!! xo Jeanne

  5. Wonderful that the chicks have got a new home. Our generations of dogs have always treated chicks as amuse bouche.

  6. Yeah, we think dogs are much more betterer than chicks. Okay, we'll include cats in that too.

  7. Glad to know that the chicks have gone to a good home. You are probably much better off with the 4 legged friends anyhow. Sheba and Annie seem to be happy now that the chicks are gone and things are back to normal for them. My Roscoe would have probably eaten them or tried to.
Have a great rest of the week and long weekend. Hope Carl is healing well and staying out of trouble.

  9. What a wonderful ending to this story! I can only imagine how the dogs reacted to having that little tub of peeps as houseguests.

You and I sound like we are in exactly the same place with regards to chickens. I will eventually have them, but now is definitely not the time. I want them to be something that I enjoy having, not another blanket-blank thing that I have to do every day. Like everything else, I trust that I will know when that time comes.

  13. Your dogs are beautiful! They remind me so much of my old golden, Chloe. We lost her at 14 1/2 years old, and we miss her a lot. I'm so happy I found your blog! I will have to add you to the blogs I follow! :)

  17. I would like to have chickens some day too. But not here in Alaska. I don't want to have to trudge through the snow everyday to tend to them!

  27. Oh! Those little chicks are adorable and love the inquisitive attention of your dogs - so cute! Great pix! They had some eggs hatching at The Center last week. Some baby mallards whose mother was dead. So sad. They were doing well though and what a rough little time they have pecking through that egg shell!
