If you live in my neck of the woods, and muggy summer heat was what you were craving, the wait is over. A high pressure system with plenty of heat has moved in and given us plenty of humidity.
With the heat, the dogs have preferred to spend most of their time indoors with plenty of ice. Even Taylor (below) has been enjoying it. She has really settled in nicely and continues to get along well with our dogs. However we've had a few storms this week, and we discovered that she's very nervous during them. Experience has taught me that once dogs are her age, it's hard for them to get over their fear of storms, and so we do our best to find something that comforts them. So far, we've not found what that "something" is for Taylor, but we will.

Last nights storm brought a little cooler start to the day and the dogs were quick to find a cat that had wandered onto our property. They chased and treed it, but (thankfully) didn't injure it. I could tell it was a young cat, and after I'd gotten the dogs back inside, I put a bowl of food next to the tree, figuring that it was probably hungry. When I left for work, the cat and the food were both gone.
Other than the cat and the heat, it has been a quiet and uneventful week. And I think we're all okay for that.

All of us except for Todd, of course. He patiently looks and waits for anything to happen.
That Todd. He is the best. Love the pictures you capture of him. He seems to always have something up his sleeve ot atleast looks like that in the pictures you take of him.
ReplyDeleteOur last 2 months more less, have been nothing but rain and muggy and humid. Still have poor Roscoe petrified of the thunder and lightning. Even the sound rain falling on the roof is scary for him. I stay home with him and try not to have to go out for any reason so that he does not suffer. He is one big spoiled boy. But you have to do what your heart tells you to.
Have a great weekend. Ana
That is exactly how we got a cat as a permanent member of our household. Once fed cats never leave even in the face of enemy combatants
ReplyDeleteglad you're surviving the heat wave. i've never been without at least one dog that was terrified of thunderstorms. good luck w/ little taylor!
ReplyDeleteHi Kim, I know that our humidity isn't as bad as yours but boy has it been hot and humid here. So glad Taylor is settling in well; Hunter loves ice but I only give it to him outside.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful weekend my dear friend.
Hugs, Noreen
Poor Todd. That cat should have been his. He was robbed!

We've been living in a steam bath for the past week too. Glad to hear Taylor is settling in well.

I feel sorry for the dogs during the thunder storms. We had a Golden her name was Daisy, during a storm we would find her in a closet behind my hubby's shirts. It looked so funny. Taylor is a sweetie, I hope it all works out.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Taylor is settling in. Little Luigi doesn't do well in the heat and while we were staying at our caravan I got worried about him on one occasion because I just could not find a way to cool him down. Tried to get him in the sea but he just flopped on the sand. All this and we are talking UK 'summer' so the temperature was only about 72. Do you have any tips when even the shade isn't enough for them? I took to pouring water over his head and getting a flannel wet and wiping him down but none of it really worked Lily. xxx
ReplyDeleteIt was so nice that the heat waited till now to show up for summer. I was really enjoying the long spring.
ReplyDeleteTodd and Ruby seem to have similar agendas. Ruby's fixation is groundhogs, and I do believe she is on guard for them whenever she's not sleeping.
That's a really cute kitty!
Really pleased that Taylor has settled in so well, she looks as though she is smiling for the photograph...so sweet.
ReplyDeleteWe have been up in the 80s and you Southerners can do a lot better than that, but the next few days are gonna be 70s daytime and 50-60 at night. Hooray I say!
ReplyDeleteCute little kitty!
Cheers,
Jo, Stella and Zkhat
I love those 'old' faces of Cissy and Taylor. Just melts your heart. It has been warm and humid here too, but hopefully a few cooler days this weekend. The collies get a little cranky with it, but it doesn't slow them down too terribly.
ReplyDeleteTammy
I do feel sorry for any living thing out in the heat.
ReplyDeleteWe're hitting 118 for a few days and it is truly not weather fit for man or beast!
Am appreciating our cool spell here in the face of your muggy heat thank you!
ReplyDeleteWe've had icky heat too and the bugs are horrific. I can barely stand to be outside.
ReplyDeleteToday was the first morning I could actually walk in the house without sweating, although after I ran the vacuum I was soaked. The air runs 24/7 these days. It's either on in the bedroom at night keeping us cool or on during the day to keep the dogs comfortable.
Stay cool Kim.
It's like trying to breathe a hot wet blanket outside, so I stay inside.
ReplyDeleteI am happy that you are having an uneventful week - mark it on your calendar, to help you remember!
I'm glad tha Taylor is still settling in so well! As for the cat, I'm sure it wasn't too ruffled by its encounter. My first cat, Cinnamon, got chased through the house by one of my mom's German Shepherds once and the dog managed to get at him in a corner and Cinnamon just laid there on his back pawing at the dog who was 10 times his size. My mom hauled her dog away and my 12 year-old cat made his way back to my bedroom where my mom found him eating his food, cool as a cucumber.
ReplyDeleteThis heat is brutal here in Kansas too! I have a wheaten also, and she is not liking it one bit, instead sitting in front of the A/C vent! That pic of Todd, is so adorable!
ReplyDeleteYep, we understand, HOT, HUMID and just plain nasty here, but we gots no thunderstorms , just trying to enjoy the AC in tha house whenever they are home. Todds got it right, just sit and observe!
ReplyDeleteThe Mad Scots
Maybe Todd's waiting for another cat.
ReplyDeleteWe don't do humidity well. Luckily, it's dry here.
A quiet week is good....much better than visits to the Vet.
XXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy
little todd waiting for something to happen! LOL. how adorable is that tiny profile.
ReplyDeleteand cissy grows more beautiful with each day.
and as for that sweet taylor girl... her eyes say it all don't they.
my zeke didn't mind thunderstorms at all... but let somebody shoot off fireworks and he was petrified.
Kim
ReplyDeleteHave you seen my blogs video
I suspect you will bawl xx
It's hot as heck here and probably will be till November so our day time activities are limited ... Kitty is cute as a button...wonder if she'll (he'll) be back
ReplyDeleteHot here, too.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you're all doing well, Kim. ♥
We had some of your humidity today Kim! But we know not as bad as yours. I truly imagine how all the dogs love that nice cold water and ice!
ReplyDeleteTaylor will fit it-- just time is needed as you say.
I am sure Todd helps distract her.
We had some monster thunderous looking clouds in our sky today- did they come from you?
love
tweedles
Taylor sure has a sweet face. Glad her AND Cissy are fitting in. Easton just told me a secret. He can't wait for Buddy to go home!!!
ReplyDeleteHave you tried tap dancing ? Guaranteed to take everyones mind off storms. Your neighbours ae far enough away for you not to be deemed odd !
ReplyDeleteThe horrid heat had finally passed here as well. I trust that all of your furry loved ones are feeling much relieved.
ReplyDeleteSending hugs your way...
Judy
I love your blog and want to follow you. What a wonderful person to help so many of our pets who cannot find homes. They all look to well cared for and loved.
ReplyDeleteWe've got humidity and heat today. Lazy lazy lazy. Stay cool!
ReplyDeleteSam
Hope things cool off soon. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteHowdy Mates, sorry it's been so hot for you. Wish we could give you some of our cold weather. We treed a cat once too. Only problem was, it was our sissy Penny hehehe. Mum says we're ratbags. Hope your weekend has been good. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory
ReplyDeleteOh Taylor...you can just see the fear on her face. Glad all is well.
ReplyDeleteThat giant ice water dish looks like heaven! We hope you've gotten some relief from the heat. Something wonderful happened here this weekend, and after tons of rain and humidity it feels like a Spring day today.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely kitten! Your dogs are so cute. Let's hope you won't have storms anymore. Happy Sunday!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the kitty was OK! It's been hot here the last couple of days but nothing like I think you are getting. Hopefully the storms stay away for both of us - who needs that! Nobody!
ReplyDeletexo Catherine
OK, being a cat person, my heart goes out to kitty in the tree, lol. Good of you to give it some food.
ReplyDeleteBet it won't be back unless it's sure it can outrun the dogs...
We have that hot humid weather that you are [snort] so loving, also.
Jen
Hello Kim! Aww.. Taylor is a real cutie! Sorry to hear she doesn't like storms. Gracie gets really nervous when it storms and she was mad at us over the weekend because we were away and it did storm. Lindsey came in to care for her throughout the day and each day Gracie left her a 'gift' on the kitchen floor. She knows how to get her message across..
ReplyDeleteTodd looks to be really interested in something...
I bet Todd enjoyed that cat visit, but I must say that cat came to the wrong house!!! Hope things cool down a bit for you all. Our spectacular summer weather seems to have left us. Clouds, wind and cooler temps are the norm now.
ReplyDeleteI hope that the heat has simmered down, and you're enjoying the 4th!
