Low and High Notes

~Charlie~
To start, I have really missed not visiting your blogs this week.  It has been a week that started out low, but is ending on a high note.  The low notes were that myself and four of the dogs, Charlie, Josh, Wendy, and Annie were really not feeling well. By Wednesday evening we were all somewhat better, but I was totally exhausted from three nights of getting up more than once in the early morning hours to let someone outside and of course having to work as well.

However we end the week with everyone finally feeling better. Our newest arrival, Sunny, has settled in nicely. As we get to know him, I'm finding him to be a nice dog that is affectionate and wants to please.  On the flip-side he's a pretty good counter-surfer who has a real taste for cat food, and who doesn't like us to grab him by the collar.  The counter-surfing is pretty minor and isn't really a concern.  But grabbing Sunny by the collar could be, so we are making sure he listens to us when he's asked to do something, in particular when he needs to move.
~Sunny~
Another thing Sunny doesn't like at all is having his picture taken. Even just seeing the camera causes him to want to run away and hide, which is what he's doing in the photo below.  I have to wonder what happened in his former home that has made him so camera shy?
And as a final note, I'll end with a little update on Comet, (the dog who over-nighted with us last week and had lived confined to a 6x9 pen for all of her nearly 13 years).  My good friend who is now fostering Comet and spoiling her rotten, told me that she's a bit of a picky eater, but she is really enjoying going for daily walks to explore the neighborhood, her very big yard, and soft bed in one of the coolest spots in the house.
~Comet~
Everyone feeling pretty good and the news about Comet is a good note to end the week.  I hope your week is ending on the same kind of note too!  I look forward to catching up on your news!

  5. Kim, your post was just what I needed tonight before going to bed. Animal woes that end on a good note... manna from heaven. Thank you for sharing & it is also VERY good news to hear that you are feeling better also. Where would the animals be without those who love them?!

    Peace~ Andrea

  6. Happy for your high note!

Jill is also camera shy, she is afraid of the flash, I seldom get a candid shot of her actually looking at the camera. I bring out the camera and she hi-tails it out of there. I swear, people must think we whip her with it or something. She's just really sensitive.

  9. Thanks for the good news about Comet, such a pretty dog!

I have very few recent pics of Stella because when I get the camera focused on her and ready to shoot, as soon as she hears the "click" she turns away. Doesn't like the flash, I suppose, but I wind up with loads of tail pics and few faces!

Glad you are all feeling better after your illness. Stay well, Kim!

    Cheers and hugs,
    Jo

  10. We are happy everyone is feeling better. Makes us smile! Sunny probably had something pointed at him that hurt him. When we got Ellie back at one year old, whenever I got the guitar out she headed for the hills. I don't play that bad. Come to find out the teenage kid in the house we took her back from would terrorize her with a tennis racket. Close enough for poor Ellie she feared for her safety. She eventually got use to it, but would never really come close.

  13. Sophie hates the camera! Hubby says it is because of the flash hurting her eyes before?? So very happy for Comet.

  14. So glad that you are all feeling better now. All the dogs look so happy and that photo of Sunny trying to hide is just great. Love that. Roscoe just looks at me like do you really have to do this again? Can't you just leave me alone. Hopefully Sunny will adjust since I know you are camera happy. He will learn to accept. Your patience will help him get through his shyness.
Glad to also know that Comet has adjusted well with the new owners. TFS and have a great weekend.

  17. Oh my, how could anyone imprison a dog for thirteen years. What a cruel heart they must have had. So happy to hear that in the winter of his life, he is free and with people who care.

  19. Poor Kim, I'm glad that the week ended for you than it started. Getting to know a rescue dog is always an adventure, isn't it? I hope you have had a way to enjoy our beautiful weather for the past few days. I know the dogs must have loved it.

  21. Poor Sunny is like my cat Cait - she HATES the camera. If she can't run she just closes her eyes because she knows I won't take a photo if her eyes are closed. :) Happy to hear you are all feeling better and that Comet has a wonderful new foster home.

  24. I think it is just wonderful how all of your dogs and the cat get along. The way they accept new dogs into their pack is remarkable. You know I have a Samoyed, one of the sweetest breeds there is, and yet, while he loves Soldier most of the time, I can't trust that he won't go into a fit of rage and beat him up. So they have been separated now, by a gate, or a fence, for nearly two years. So sad, but since Soldier got so injured i their last battle, and is 13 now, I will not take any chances.
