With fall like temperatures and a nice breeze, it was a perfect day for a road trip on Monday.
My drive was about a 3 hour round trip to one of my favorite small towns, Woodstock which is in Shenandoah County, Virginia.
There I met the third leg of a transport that began near the border of Tennessee, and it was there that I met a big handsome 13-ish year old boy named Beau.

~Settling in for the ride home~ |
Beau was unceremoniously turned into the shelter by his owner a week ago today (Thursday). Stressed out and upset from being left behind by
"her" and because of overcrowding, the shelter immediately contacted the rescue I volunteer with and asked if they would accept him. On Friday Beau was taken to a vets office, where he was bathed and groomed to get rid of mats and all kinds of little critters in his coat and he received treatment for severe eye and ear infections. Beau is unable to hear because of continued untreated ear infections. The opening to both his ears are so small that the applicator for the ear medication barely fits into them.
Beau also has entropion in both eyes. *
Entropion is an abnormality of the eyelids in which the eyelid "rolls" inward. This inward rolling causes the hair on the surface of the eyelid to rub against the eye, causing pain --if you look at his eyes in the photos, you can see it. So Beau will be seeing an ophthalmologist for a consultation for treatment.

~My handsome co-pilot~ |
We are now on day three that Beau has been with us. He's an easy going happy boy that loves attention and is
constantly wagging his tail. While our crew is used to meeting new dogs, my most nerve-wracking and stressful moments always come when they have to meet a new addition. The first meeting went really well and Beau is getting along with everyone, even Todd. He's learning the routine, has claimed a dog bed and is settling into his new life at Golden Pines.

Oh thank you thank you thank you ......another beautiful life touched by you...with the world in such a mess...these are the things I hold on to...
ReplyDeleteMy day is going in a much better direction because I will think about this and all the kindness you bring to the world...please give this dear fellow a sweet kiss and pat from me..xxxxxxxx
Thank you so much for traveling to get Beau and giving him such a good home. I know he is blessed but also know that you will be blessed ten times over. I am living vicariously through you being surrounded by goldens. I often dream if we lived in the country I would bring a senior boy home to live with us. Maybe someday.

Like I said before, Kim you are a sweet Angel. Traveling to go get such a handsome old boy like Beau. Will never understand how someone can just dump their pet off when older, makes me sooooo mad. But thank god for people like you. He will love you and Golden Pines, Big Hugs Francine.
ReplyDeletesweet, big ol' fella! he's in great hands now!!!
ReplyDeleteSo pleased Beau is with you there. He looks such a lovely chap. I noticed his eye problem straight away, really hope something can be done to help this boy.
ReplyDeleteThe world could certainly use a few more people like you. And perhaps a lot less like "her".
ReplyDeleteHe looks like such a sweet boy. Thankfully you, Carl and the gang have welcomed him and will be taking good care of him. Ana
ReplyDeleteI just can’t understand how anyone could just dump off a sweet old dog after having him for so many years. You are an angel.
ReplyDeleteThe problem with democracy is that the human who turned him in is allowed to vote.
ReplyDeleteWelcome Beau :-). You are in a good place that you well deserve!
ReplyDeleteThe world turns a little more happily tonight knowing Beau is 'home'.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the pack, Beau!! What a sweet face he has.
ReplyDeleteDogs don't dwell on what has happened to them ... we shouldn't either. The important thing is that he is safe and warm and with people who will love him.
How can a person treat a 13-year old dog like that? I got so angry reading this, but then HAPPY too, of course, that he ended up at Golden Pines. How sweet he is. I hope his eyes can be treated and look forward to hearing more about him. Another wonderful thing you have done, Kim.
ReplyDeleteBeau! You're gorgeous and handsome! It's SO nice to meet you!!
ReplyDeleteBeau can now relax and be loved and cared for as he deserves.
ReplyDeleteThank you.

Oh, he looks just so sweet, Kim!! I wish I could pet his sweet soft ears!
ReplyDeleteEdgar and his mum
What I don't understand is how people don't take care of them in the first place I mean they wouldn't ignore taking a kid to a Dr if needed and keep up treatments .. well I hope they wouldn't one would think . I am glad this old boy has found you and your clan I am sure he will be very happy ! Glad all are doing well and getting along ! Thanks for sharing , nice photos ! Have a good week !
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking in this sweet boy!
ReplyDeleteOne more beautiful boy in your family, he is a super-looker, you, Carl and the gang will welcome him with love , heaps of TLC and company. He does look so comfortable on HIS bed. Hugs to all, Jean

Welcome to Beau! He's a lucky dog now.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to Blogville Beau!! I will be following your progress. I am so glad you got founded by the bestest people you possibly could have got founded by. I don't like HER!! Not even a little bit. How could she let you suffer like that. Sorry I said that Beau ..... I know you would have loved HER and you probably miss her too but you now have people that love you as much as you will learn to love them, aye?? Hope your eyes aren't troubling you too much. That must be so very uncomfortable for you!!
ReplyDeleteWelcome....you sweet and lucky dog!

ReplyDeleteGod bless. ♥ :-)
ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteGreat that you could take him to your home. You do great job with these guys.
We got 4 puppies yesterday. Tyra is a good mother. THey all have new owners and very good homes where they will become hunting dachshunds.
Have a great weekend!

Welcome home Beau - God bless you Kim!
ReplyDeleteOh my...he's beautiful. How can someone not love and take care of such a beautiful animal? I just love you Kim.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of infections, you know Henri has had a methicillin-resistant Staph infection and is on antibiotics. Better, but this is the second time in two years that he has had this. Have you ever had any experience with this Kim...or anyone else? I feel so bad for him; he just wants to be a "happy dog". He's not real sick; just licking, etc.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I could really dislike people (HER!), and then I remind myself of the good folks that are out there (YOU!). Thanks for welcoming him into your home - he's such a handsome boy.
ReplyDeleteMonty and Harlow
remember the case in "all creatures great and small" where doctor herriott operated on a dog in the village who had lived with unbelievable pain for years because of that eyelid condition? for the first time in his long life he was able to see and blink without agony. when i get just one eyelash in my own eye it's horrible. i cannot begin to imagine what it must be like for them ALL to be sticking me! omg.
ReplyDeleteonce again. you're my hero.
love to you dear heart. love.
xo
It's so sad that people ignore and treat their pets so badly. I'm glad Beau got a new home. Happy weekend, Kim and the pack!
ReplyDeleteWe are so glad that Beau has ended up in a place so full of love. We know he will get the love and treatment he deserves!
ReplyDeleteHe looks like a great addition to the gang. Congratulations! We also got a new family member, Pickles!
ReplyDeleteHooray for Beau! I bet his is counting his lucky stars they called you to be his forever home. Thank you, Kim!

Again, bless you!
ReplyDeleteThat poor boy! Those eyes should have been fixed when he was a pup. What pain he's lived with all these years. Some people should not be allowed to have dogs.
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe a person would be so insensitive to allow Beau to live in pain all of his life. It sounds like "she"didn't care since he was also matted and filthy. Poor little ears and eyes will feel better soon due to the much needed TLC he is receiving. I always marvel and am so grateful when your rescues are able to feel some peace sleeping soundly in a comfortable bed safely. Cissy also comes to mind, remembering how she came to you. And look at her now!
ReplyDeleteThank you,
Gus' Mom
Yay for Beau and Yay for you. I can live until hell freezes over and I will never understand how someone can so callously just drop their dog off at a pound. Thank God he found you.
