A Fair Trade

It was in the high 40's when we woke up this morning.
For the first time in a long time, I was legitimately cold. Actually shivering. It was a welcome moment. Another reminder of how I love the fall and the promise of nights beneath heavy blankets with Todd or Charlie warming my feet.
The weekend was spent mostly at home finishing up chores around the house and getting things stored and ready for winter.  I decided to tackle a flower bed that went untouched this year. The neglect started when the Phoebes built their nest nearby, and I didn't want to disturb them when they were giving parenthood a second try.  Then the black snakes, that I know are harmless were seen a few times around the porch and I just didn't want to chance an encounter with them, so I let it be.
The roots of the weeds were pretty deep and I was finding that with cold hands and a bit of arthritis, I was having trouble pulling them out. So I did the only thing I could do; I went and got Carl and asked him to pull them for me while I took the dogs for a walk and took some photos.
I thought it was a fair trade, and the dogs enjoyed it too.

  2. Definitely a fair trade. Of course, my husband thinks the yard is his domain. If he sees me out doing anything he comes along to supervise. And then takes over. I am also loving these chilly mornings. And Lucy is too.

  4. Crikey that's Mum's idea of gardening too. Get Dad to do it while she walks with ME!! Those autumn colours in that first photos are amazing. We don't have those beautiful trees here. Just boring old gumtrees.

  6. Oh ya...that's how it's done! I STILL am putting off attempting to do a bit of neglected weeding mostly due to unruly snake population this year as well...AAAACCCCKKK. yuck and phooey! Sounded like a great trade off to me! Happy fall everyone-looks gorgeous where you are!

  8. Awwwwww That is so sweet. I was just mumbling to myself,' I wish it would hurry up and stay cool. I am so ready for comforters instead of just a sheet at night.

  12. Still in the 90's here which is truly bizarre. The forecast says winter arrives later this week with a sharp fall to the 60's. We've closed up the pool but everything else is either still blooming putting us on hold. There again there's not much gardening left to be done with 2 PON's around.

  15. LOLOL!! i'm all for the fair trade act. especially if it involves black snakes.
i wouldn't care if they're out in the field. but near the porch? or worse...
under it? so they might somehow find a hole into the house? YIKES!!!
even harmless... snakes give me the shivers.
and we're having those lovely cool mornings here to. even though it still gets into the 80's during the day. i'm thinking autumn may never come here!
