Sherlock Arrives at Golden Pines

To start, like so many all over the world, I join in offering my prayers for all those wounded, and my deepest condolences to all those families who lost loved ones in the terrorist attacks in Paris.  It’s truly heartbreaking.
While we will remember what the day brought for France, it also brought us a new arrival.  From Maryland's northern most shore, comes Sherlock.
Found as a stray standing in the  middle of a  country road one night, he was taken to the county shelter where he was given a new name, that he totally doesn't know, and when his "hard time" was up, he was given to Lab Rescue. When we got home last evening, it was easy to see that Sherlock was really happy to be out of the kennel (all dogs coming into Lab Rescue via a shelter are kenneled and boarded first for evaluation).  I do not think he stopped wagging his tail or barking the entire evening.  Because he was so excited and happy, I decided against doing one on one meetings, to just let him relax and get used to his new surroundings.
Sherlock is estimated to be about 10 years old.  As you can see in the photo below from the shelter, he is very thin, probably from being a stray.
Sherlock, or whatever his name is, is not responding whatsoever to anything I'm saying to him.  Meetings will be done slowly and one at a time this afternoon.  Judging by the smile on his face that hasn't disappeared since I met him, I've a feeling it will go just fine.  Wish us luck, as we welcome this new and enthusiastic boy to Golden Pines.

  5. Yes, thin...looks like he's been on the lamb for quite some time, but ooh, he knows what good times and love awaits him. You can see it in that smile :)
Thank you for your kind heart and devotion to these dogs in need.
    Hugs,

  6. WEll Hello to Sherlock and congratulations on finding the VERY BEST PLACE for a golden oldie to be!

I'm quite sure you'll soon work out what makes this lad tick, Kim. A few dinners should do the trick!

  10. Bless you for your work with these wonderful animals. My daughter has a special dog much the same as Sherlock. He is so grateful, even after 8 years, to be part of a loving home where food and love are always provided. I hope Sherlock will nestle right in with his new tribe.

  16. You make me smile, yet again. We all thank you for taking in Sherlock and giving him the love he needs. We adopted a 10-yr old yellow lab years ago so Sherlock instantly had a special place in my heart. Just one thought, is it possible that he's deaf? That would explain the lack of response to you.

Welcome Sherlock! We all can't wait to get to know you.

  19. Thabnks to you and carl, Kim, that's another very lucky dog ! We're so glad to know that Sherlock has fallen on his feet after what must have been some traumatic times. Poor chap looks as though he's seen some hungry days. Most unusual to see a Lab. as thin as he is. We're sure he'll soon lose those awful protruding ribs as he settles in and make friends with all the crew - maybe George will be his new best friend?

  22. Although I constantly see it at work and I have a houseful of throwaways of my own... I just can't understand it. My boy just turned 10 the other day and if he was suddenly lost, I wouldn't sleep until I found him.
Thank god Sherlock ended up with you.

  23. i was fine until the picture looking down upon those skin and bones.
    literally.
i can't nor don't want to imagine what he's gone through. the hunger and fear. and yet...
    he smiles. and he wags.
it's that spirit of the dog that never fails to touch my heart.
    bless you darling girl.
    as always.
you and your kind make up for me ... the horrendous evil in this world.
would that your love and kindness could be transported to all those human and animal who need it in the world tonight. XOXOXO♥
