A Job Well Done

~Christmas Day~
It was quiet at our house on Saturday for a couple of reasons.  One was because I'd taken my brother to the airport to catch an afternoon flight home.

~Dulles International Airport~
I'd also gotten a call from the SPCA about "Flurry" (Jack Frost?) telling me there was a spot for him at the local store, and I was asked to bring him. (A reminder that I need to decide if he'll be staying with us, or going to another home.)
So, we were minus one person and a rambunctious kitten. The dogs were worn out from not getting their daily 20 hour naps last week.
~Sheba, worn out from Christmas~
It was eerily quiet.  Too quiet actually.  It was then that I realized it had been awhile since I had seen or heard Todd.  He wasn't inside.  I called him outside, and he didn't come.  If you're a dog owner you'll know that nervous feeling I was having. Another quick search inside, and I was outside calling him again. Then I saw *it*  It looked like Todd, but *it* was totally covered and caked in mud from head to toe.  Todd.  I don't think I'd ever seen him so covered in mud.  His tongue that was practically hanging down to the ground was even mud colored.  He was smiling and out of breath from digging, and I wish now I'd gotten a picture.  But you'll have to take my word for it because all I could think about was giving him a bath.
He didn't seem to mind too much.  Afterwards Todd was basking in the glow of what he knew was an excavating job well done.

  1. Good Sunday! Ah, you can take the the dog out of the dirt, but you'll always have a dirt lovin' dog. Maybe he was after a critter.
We're all tired around here too, but it's a good tired.

  2. Hello, our weather has been much the same fog and rainy. I assume Flurry could be up for adoption, I hope wherever he lives he will be happy. I had to laugh at your description of Todd. He must have had fun digging in the mud. He is adorable! Happy Sunday, enjoy your new week!

  5. I bet Todd felt like he was at a day after Christmas sale, but instead doing what he loves-digging. Hope your new year is filled with joy, health, love and peace.

  9. I guess it could have been worse; Todd could have met up with a skunk.

  15. Fluffy is a beautiful kitten...I don't think I've seen such a pure white in a long time. Purrs that he finds a furever home soon. Sounds like the Goldens are not bothered by a feline.
MOL MOL MOL MOL Todd was filthy but happy. How in the world did you get him to the tub w/o being covered head to toe yourself
    Hugs madi and mom

  16. Hahaha. We have a mud pit in our yard due to the crazy warm weather, but at least brown dawgs don't dig and the mud blends in.

  17. Perhaps Todd has a distant cousin called Sophie ?

  18. Oh no - glad Todd was "just" digging and had not gotten hurt or lost. If I can't see or hear my little girl, I do panic, because like many dogs she is very adventuresome and very naive.

  19. With the weather we have had recently, there is certainly no shortage of mud for Todd's adventures. I hope your visit with your brother was a good one, and that your heart leads you to the right decision about the kitty. Hearts are wise like that.

  21. It's always a sad affair when family members return to their little corner of the world, I swear I can still hear their voices echoing inside the walls, days after they have left...
    I believe Todd was a coal-miner in a previous life !
Wishing you a Happy and Healthy New Year, and looking forward to many more visits and adventures.
    Hugs,
    ~Jo

  23. Loved it! IS the hole in a useful place for planting a tree or anything? The odds are stacked against that, aren't they! Hope you come to a 100%-sure decision about the kitten - he does look cute, and they grow out of their naughty stage so much faster than puppies, don't they.

  24. I think that Todd and Jimmy Chew could be best friends!
Or the beginning of a little dog gang! LOL!
(I'd have to keep Flurry if I had him! Too cute!)

  25. I know that "too quiet" sound. I'm glad that Todd wasn't hurt... and I kind of hope that Flurry wasn't adopted (sorry).

We had a too quiet moment during a big family get-together, and I couldn't find Shyla. It turned out that something had scared her and she was hiding in a cubby under a desk in my brother's house. She bounced back before too long but I was terrified while I couldn't find her!
