It was about 2:30 in the morning, and Sunny woke me up shaking his head and the sound of his collar tags clinking together. He came and sat next to the bed for a few minutes, and I gave him a few pats, rubbed his ears and drifted back to sleep. I was awake a little later from the same thing. Poor Sunny. Ear problems seem to be a bit of a problem at our house right now, and as I listened to Sunny continue to shake his head, I hoped he'd stop and I wouldn't have to get out of a warm bed.

~Sunny in October~ |
Sunny somehow knew I was awake and came back to the side of the bed and I gave him a few more pats, whispered to him that I loved him and then told him to lay down and go back to bed. He left my side, but didn't go to bed, instead he continued to shake his head. It didn't matter that it was (now) 3-something in the morning, I knew I needed to do something, or we both wouldn't get any sleep. And I knew I should clean and medicate the ear that was bothering him. So, I got up.
In our house, no matter what time of the day or night, when I get up, I am followed by the "Pup-A-Razzi" who on this night was Todd, Charlie, Max, the lovely "Eevah" and I let them all outside. It took a few minutes to find the bottle of ear cleaner, the medication, get the dogs back inside (no treats) and get the gauze I'd just gotten from work out of my car.
Finally it was back to the bedroom to clean Sunny's ears. And there he was, fast asleep. I had to grin at that, and I did think about waking him up. Instead I just turned the light out and went back to bed. He'd wake me up again if he needed me, but he didn't.

Funny Sunny ..... maybe a shake of the ear is Sunny's way of saying I need to pee. Isn't it always the way, aye??
ReplyDeleteNo head shaking here, but sounds so much like here. Even if I don't move, they KNOW if I am awake and they will bug to go outside, "ahem, as long as you're awake, Mom."
ReplyDeleteSame here, too. How do they know?
ReplyDeleteHello, maybe Sunny knew the others had to go outside. Head shaking could be the new alarm clock. Sunny is adorable, I hope his ears heal soon. Happy Friday, enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteHehe, you nose us pups just need to nose you peeps luffs us and then we can sleep sooooo much better!
ReplyDeleteLoves and licky kisses
Princess Leah xxx
Snickers has that "head shake" down pat . . .
ReplyDeleteNothing to do with sore ears . . .
Everything to do with
"I need to go out!"
OR
I need to cuddle . . .
(I hope the rest of your night was a sleeping one!)
Sometime we doggies just need to know our peeps are there for us never mind what the time of day or night. Nose licks and love from Moth xx
ReplyDeleteWhen petz want you to wake up, you have to wake up. I often put the blanket over my bed in the hope that they will go away. Sometime that works, more times it doesn't.
ReplyDeleteI think he has figured how to wake you up for a potty run in the middle of the night. Glad to hear you were able to continue your sleep in peace.
ReplyDeleteLOLOL! i'm sorry to laugh so. but it honestly reads like the script of a sit com!
ReplyDeletei love the pup~a~razzi!
and sunny somehow reminds me of spencer tracy in the old classic 'father of the bride.'
he was worried about his daughter elizabeth taylor's new engagement so he woke his wife from a deep sleep.
after he told her all his worries ... he went back sound asleep (like sunny!) and SHE was left awake!
you're just the best dearest bean. i love how you stay loving... regardless of the time of day or lack of sleep! ♥
Hi, Dogtor Mom.
ReplyDeleteYes I always hate to let them know I am awake, especially if it is getting close to time to get up. The things we do for our furbabies

First of all....Great pictures of Sunny! Hope his ear is feeling better.
ReplyDeleteI know it was not funny at 3 in the morning, but so funny
to read because we can all relate!
Also, I love how everyone can relate to their pups using whatever is handy to ask for their needs to be met. Gus brings me his wet ball and drops it in my lap for everything. It can be to go outside, to eat, some cuddles or for a snack. He drops the ball and expects me to know what he wants, just looks at me until I figure it out. So cute.
Hope you are having a wonderful day.
Gus' Mom
Aww, Sunny!! I hope you got some rest, sleepless nights are NO fun. And I definitely hope your ear is better!
ReplyDeleteYou are too cute, great post & pictures! :)
Have a wonderful day.
Tara
Typical.... But we're sure the other pups enjoyed a midnight walk in the garden. Hope the ear problem heals and doesn't cause any more disturbed sleeps.
ReplyDeleteHe's a beautiful boy, I'm sure he would have allowed you to just snooze a little longer, if it weren't for those itchy ears :)
ReplyDelete~Jo
Awww, sweet boy, those ears, hope he feels better soon.Hugs Francine.
ReplyDeleteEars ! Do you use Zymox or something else ? Dog owners seem to have a penchant for being woken between 2.30 and 3. Must be natures way of Keeping us happy !
ReplyDeleteBoy, can I relate! Too funny. Don't know what you use for the ears, but my daughter and I swear by Zymox Otic Pet Ear Treatment with Hydrocortisone. We buy it on Amazon...
ReplyDeleteWhat a heartwarming story. You are such a good dog mom. I've had almost the same experience... ear shaking in the middle of the night that I had to cope with but no pupparazzi!
ReplyDeleteHe's such a beautiful boy!
ReplyDeleteI remember the ear infections our old golden, Chloe, used to get. (It was from all her swimming)
you went out to the car?
ReplyDeleteyou are an angel. I would have use a tissue or something.
LOL!
and then dropped back into bed.
