As I was getting dinner ready for the dogs in the kitchen, Hamlet appeared. I guess he didn't want his dinner in bed after all--He stood and ate all of his dinner of chicken, rice and a little bit of kibble--A good sign! You can also see that he's also putting weight on the front leg, which is a good sign that he hasn't lost use of it. I am hopeful we are headed in the right direction.
**By his elbow what you see sticking out is a drain that will be in for a few days.
What good signs! He really does look like he's bearing weight on it and I would certainly think that the fact that he's already up and eating is a testament to his willingness to fight his way back. GOOD BOY, HAMLET! Give yourself a pat on the back, "Mom"! ;-)
ReplyDeleteLooks VERY promising, Kim!!
ReplyDeleteBravo Hamlet!
ReplyDeleteBravo!
Thanks for sharing these positive steps!
YIPPEE! You go Hamlet! You rock, Kim, the boy is better! Such a relief!
ReplyDeleteOhhh, give the boy a hug, or maybe a gentle pat, for me. What a lovely, lovely picture that is.
ReplyDeleteOh bless his brave little heart! Such a trooper! (And I hate those drains. One of our old doggies got attacked and had to have several of those near his stitches.) I wish there was a magic wand we could wave to make them all healed and healthy immediately.
ReplyDeleteEating is SUCH a great sign! And standing on his own already to!
That is such good news. I think the fact he went to the trouble of taking his shoes off before he ate is great news too....BOL
ReplyDeleteYAY Hamlet
Oh Yes, this is definitely a good sign...Smiling ear to ear here in Georgia!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for posting!
Hugs to you and a gentle ear rub for Hamlet!
Kit
I'd say those are very good signs.

kim that is a great sign! i so hope he continues getting his strenght and heals 100%. i now know about where you are from...my favorite area in the united states! i love middleburg and you seem to be near it. we have stayed on snake hill road at goodstone inn and had a blast. i would think the vet care up there would be fab since your area is so 'horsey and doggy'...good luck and i know how hard this is on you....nugget had those two surgeries on his acls...it is hard to see our dogs hurt especially those sweet golden faces!
ReplyDeleteHello Kim :)
ReplyDeleteI took a few minutes out tonight before I head off to bed to catch up on some blog reading---I am so glad that I stopped in!! I am delighted to read that Hamlet seems to be feeling somewhat better. You must be so relieved. I totally agree--to see him eating at his food dish is a good sign. I hope you have a restful day tomorrow and that you will be able to spend the day with sweet Hamlet giving him lots of love:)
Hope you have a wonderful day!!!

Hooray for appetites and using that leg! When our dog had a drain like that I bought disposable bed pads (Chux, the kind you use on beds for incontinent people) and duct-taped them backwards inside a tee shirt. (So the absorbent area was next to the dog, and taped it around the perimeter on all four sides to the shirt.) It allowed the drain to flow freely but kept it from dripping on the floor. The tee shirt had the added benefit of keeping her from trying to mess with the wound. I just tied it on top in the back with a rubber band and it worked really well. In fact, our vet asked for one so he could show people how to make them.
ReplyDeleteThoughts are still flowing for Hamlet's continued progress.
Oh, that is so great to see!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHe looked kind of wiped out in the previous post photo - this is just awesome!
Big hugs to all - hope your day tomorrow is filled with more happy.

ReplyDeleteWe're so happy to see Hamlet home and recovering so well. Really like the "crumb catchers" under his dinner bowl. Very encouraging that he's able to stand and walk, and is so interested in food. We'll be thinking of him! And you.
