Lucky 'Nuf

(Sheba)

With Monday off from work, it was back to real life and reality on Tuesday. The holidays are done and it's time for some kind of normalcy, whatever that may be.  The talk with several patients was the 'Mega-Millions' lottery that had grown to over 300 million dollars. A few of the patients had bought a ticket and thoughts were on what they would do if they were the big winner. Now I do not consider myself a 'lucky person' which is why you can count on one hand how many times I've personally bought a lottery-ticket. But it was 'only' a dollar, and since my chances of winning were said to be 'one in 176-million' I fell into that dream of 'what if,' and I bought a single ticket.  Imagine my surprise on Wednesday morning when I checked my numbers and saw that I won a whole $150--I won the lottery!!  Okay, it wasn't the big jackpot, but I thought it was a pretty good return on my one-dollar investment the day before.  And I still have dreams of what I'll do with my winnings...Will I buy a new purse, or gas for my van?   I think it'll have to be gas--With prices going up and after taxes I'm sure it won't be enough for the purse.

(Our boy Sam)
I wish the luck had lasted. On Wednesday I was not feeling well and left work right after lunch and came home. Once home, I realized that while I didn't win the 'mega-millions,' when I see all the dogs and look around where I live, I know that I'm lucky enough. I just wish I felt well enough to enjoy it!

We already had a list of things we would do...if only we were lucky enough to win [sigh].
I think you are correct, your life is full of riches as it is.

  2. Much better than 300 million, isn't it? We also bought one ticket. The thrill of waiting for the results is fun.

I hope you feel better today so you can enjoy your everyday prize!

  3. Hope it's not the flu bug that's going around. Madame Bay has caught it here in France. She does not handle illness well.

  4. Congratulations on winning $150! I would totally go for buying the new purse, because you should buy something special with it rather then paying a bill or buying something that you had to buy anyways, such as gas. Treat yourself Kim ~ you deserve it!

And you are right, coming home to all those puppy faces is like coming home to a pot of gold! :)

  5. Hi Kim
We hope you're feeling better and congratulations on winning the $150! I'm sure with the K9 gang you have, the money will be spent before you know it!

I couldn't agree with you more - when I walk into the house from work and Neeli greets me like she hasn't seen me for years - it sure makes me feel very lucky to have her!

  6. One of my Facebook friends said all she wanted for Christmas was to keep what she had - that is my mantra now. I have enough - and a little to share with others and that's sufficient.

  7. Good morning! I always see your kind posts on Wilf's blog -- and thought I'd stop by and read a bit about you. What an amazing crew you have -- love all the photos with six (?) attentive golden retrievers and one equally intent wheaten waiting for mom to give them a treat.

And I do believe that dogs speak -- not just on Christmas -- we just have to be attentive to their language.

  9. Congrats on the win! The most we ever win is 5 bucks, but even that is better than a sharp stick in the eye right!?

  10. HooRay!!!!! Now you can say you WON the lottery---no one needs to know the amount :) What a fun way to start out the new year. I enjoyed catching up with your blog today. Let me just say TREASURE!!! I think it would be so cool to plant flowers in your old cow trough. I love the look of something old and worn with cheery flowers growing in it. Oh wouldn't it be fun to move it closer to your back door (if it isn't too heavy) and plant an herb garden in it. Fresh herbs at your finger tips :) planted safe away from happy little paws and curious noses (heheheh) Oh great now I think I need an old cow trough too :)
    Happy New Year!!!

  11. Awww. Sorry you are not feeling well! But congrats on your win! It will certainly buy some gas or dog food or something you need! And I agree. Riches are not always counted in coins. :)

  12. Well, even if you didn't win the big money lottery you definitely won the dog lottery! They dogs wouldn't like gold plated bones anyhow, lol!

  13. Seems like a pretty good way to start the new year! I always tuck away those boons and spend them when I need a treat! (...or to pat the emergency vet!)

  14. Sorry you got a bug, is probably something you caught last week.
Nice win! It's better that a beating, for sure. Well, with the price of gas going up - will you be able to fill your tank?

I hope you are feeling better!

  17. Congrats, even that amount is nothing to sneeze at. You should buy something totally indulgent... not gas!

  18. HI Kim, I wonder if you have the same crud I do-head cold etc.
Like you I feel like I've won the lottery just because of my family, my beloved man, my old guy Reggie and another day to live. Feel better soon-and enjoy snuggling with you pups.

  20. Hope you feel better, Kim. It sucks being sick when you have so many things to do... rest if you can.

Oh, what I could do with an extra $150. That's terrific. I'm sure you will put it to good use. :)

  21. Aw, Kim! I hope that you feel better quickly. Though, it can be quite pleasant, when you are recovering, to lie curled up on the couch, under a warm blanket, reading a favorite book.

You're quite right, too, about the lottery thing. Most of us have won the lottery of life. We have food, clothing and shelter. We have something saved for a rainy day. And, most importantly, we have good friends, both human and animal. Who could ask for anything more?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Just think of all the "relatives" that would contact you if you won that lotto!!

You are loved. That's better than money!

  23. I hope you are feeling better soon.

One dollar for "a license to dream " is good value. We've always said that if we won our New Zeland lottery (we only very occasionally buy tickets when it is up $10 or $20M, and the tickets cost more than $1) the first thing we would get is one Golden Retriever for each million NZ dollars that we won. I think that you've already won having so many wonderful Goldens in your life - all that Golden fur surrounding you and the things they do that make you smile is priceless.

  24. Oh dear, poor you Kim. I do hope you feel better soon. Do you think it's the flu?? We have a major problem with it here in the UK. And lucky you for your win! Treat yourself to something, even if it's a bunch of flowers. S x x x

  25. I hope you feel better soon!!! As for the lottery, you sure are lucky to have won that much, I've only ever gotten free plays, but as with you I consider myself very lucky to have a roof over my head, food on my table and a family and friends and felines who love me!

  26. Nice win! Sorry you did not feel well...lucky to have such a support system at home.

  27. The jackpot had actually grown to a point where I even played -

Please accept my $6.00 in your winnings!

    Hope you are feeling better!

  28. Good point Kim! We do not always realize the luck we have already. Hey a 4150 isn't bad at all for the buck you paid for it!

  29. Good point Kim. We are already lucky, we just have to look around and see.
Good for your 'win', not a bad investment at all!

  30. That's great that you won $150.00. I won $20.00 on my first scratcher that I bought a while back. This of course inspired me to try again and I won $7.00, then again, and I won $2.00. After that and several nothings, I stopped my gambling days for now. But it sure was fun! And you are a lucky woman and your doggies are even luckier.--Inger

  32. Kim,
Hope you are feeling better. I guess we all play that what if game.
We don't buy lottery tickets often either but we always dream that if we would win their would be a awful lot of happy animals.
Just love the photo of Sam.

  38. I hope you sleep well tonight and feel much better in the morning! Perhaps a sick day is due? Even if you're NOT feeling sick! Maybe the $150 could make up for taking a day off to recharge and reconnect with the things that make you happy...

I bet your canine friends wouldn't mind one bit!
