Reggie the Mother Hen

Its been exactly a week now since Reggie came to Golden Pines.  Her transition into our household has been seamless.  There has not been a moment of trouble from her and she has shown time and time again, what a nice dog she is.  Reggie seems to know things like sit, down, stay which makes me think that at one time she must have been a treasured companion--Why that would have changed is anyone's guess.

Reggie has adjusted the routine and has made herself right at home.  She continues to always wag her tail and does seems to be happy and content.
There seems to be a connection between Reggie and Todd.  Any noise that he makes, Reggie is right there checking on him.  When we're outside, she is never that far away keeping a watchful eye on him. Todd is always close to her too and when he sees her he'll run over to her.
We decided that we're going to keep Reggie here for now.  And when her medial issues are all resolved, which won't be for a  few more months, we'll try to find her another home through the rescue, (does anyone really believe I'll do that??) Besides, I think she and Todd might miss one another.

What a heart-warming story for both of them...there when each other needs a friend and what more can one ask for? That is so awesome...I hope Reggie's med. issues are resolved but you end up keeping her :)

  8. What a sweet friendship that has formed between Reggie and Todd. Someone needed a mommy and someone needed to express her mothering instincts. They are both cuties, and that Todd is just plain adorable!

  15. Glad to see Reggie is doing great & is very happy at the Golden Pines! Also, welcome to your new addition, Todd!!! He is a REAL cutie. Bet he is going to be a little rascal once he hits the teenager stage. I've had kids 2 1/2 years ago. So I know. BOL!

  17. I can hear the initial conversation between them... it probably went something like this:
Reggie: What's your name? You don't look like the rest of us..
Todd: That's cause I'm Scottish or something like that... but hey, Charlie doesn't look like the rest of you either.
Reggie: Yea, that's true. But Charlie's been here for a while. I guess you and I are the new kids on the block.
Todd: I don't think Charlie likes me.
Reggie: Don't worry little guy. I've got your back.
Todd: Thanks Reggie. You're the best.

  18. Maybe she had pups at one time or maybe it's just that they're the new kids, whatever it's nice that they have each other.

  19. Maybe she had pups before or maybe they're just the two new kids. Whatever reason, it's good that they have each other.

  20. What a lovely story. It seems that every creature that finds its way to you finds a family!

  21. Well, you said she might have to use her charm to win a place in someone else's heart, besides yours. I'll bet you didn't expect it would be Todd's, though! :)

  22. They do seem close! :) I wonder if Reggie has ever had puppies. Our Lilac was a brood mama and had two litters. We've brought in two young dogs since she came here, both at eighteen months old, and both of them were inexplicably drawn to her! I think Reggie looks happy with life there on the farm! ;) So does Todd, for that matter!

  25. Melt, melt, MELT! Our basset decided she was mom to our young terrier pup when the pup arrived. Two plus years later, she's still "MamaSis."

  26. Woof! Woof! That's great of Reggie especially after the neglect n cruelty she encountered. A WAGGING Tail is always a wonderful sign of a happy content dog. Golden Hello to Rudi. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar

  27. Kim,
Reggie looks like she is smiling in the first picture.
I think she is very happy and content, and now a new baby addition.
Reggie and Todd look like they are discussing some heavy talking in the last shot. Maybe the house rules!
I figure Reggie is here to stay and Todd has found a great new home with lots of brothers and sisters.
    Sooooo cute together.

Can't wait to travel this road through your blog.

  29. If this is not the sweetest thing ever. At what appeared to be the most inopportune time for Reggie to come to Golden Pines turns out to be a Godsend. That sweet new boy Todd has a new Mama and Reggie has anew purpose in life.
With Hamlet gone and Rudi sick, Is this not just wonderful. So happy for the new connection. Another reason to smile.

  36. You can't fool me for a minute, Reggie is staying put !
What a delight to witness the bonding between these two precious souls.
I'd say she has the motherly instinct, and little Todd is a perfect size to practice that on :)
You are two of the BEST people....

  37. Do you realize what a great story could be told and turned into a children's book about a new pup being welcomed into a group of old timers (goldens) and learning the ropes of how to make the most of life with all it's ups and downs?

  38. Hmmm.... I am thinking after a few months Reggie will be snuggled right in your heart and she won't be going anywhere!! Love it that she is looking after the little pup. Looks like someone has an angel to watch over him. Love it!

  39. We are nearing 100 fosters that we have helped on their way. You just discovered the big secret.

Nothing is wrong with the dogs that come into rescue and into foster. It's some of those families they live with that are the problem.

Maybe at one time Reggie had a baby,, and maybe Todd reminds her of him.

  50. Kim,

I can't tell you how many times I've looked at this post and every time it brings sweet tears to my eyes. I knew my Todd Wiff was going to a special home and this just confirms it. Reggie touched my heart from the minute I saw her first picture and now I know why. Thank you so much for deciding to put one of my babies in your home. Give him and and all of his Goldens a scritch for me - and Charlie too.

  52. There is something about Reggie's spirit that jumps right out of the pictures and into my heart! She is a natural born "mama" dog and that is so special!
I do believe you have a new lady who has come to live at "Auntie Kim's" retirement home, :)
And yes Todd does seem to love her as she loves him so I think this is a done deal!
    Love you guys...
