Justice for Reggie

Off to the vet this morning with Reggie.  Her last blood work results showed some abnormalities and it needs to be rechecked now that she's finished a long course of antibiotics.  Also on the list are x-rays to see if there are any changes in her heart and lungs since June. As you know, she's doing well.  I find her to be endearing and it's not just because of her attentiveness to Todd.  I think it's just in how she looks at you; her big, brown soulful eyes draw me in, she is gentle with great character and heart.  A reminder of why I love senior Goldens.

Among the paperwork I received with Reggie are all papers related to the neglect charges that were filed against the owner and their name.  Thanks to all court cases in Virginia being online I was able to find the case and its result.  It appears that the previous owner spent 15 days in jail, paid all fees relating to the case, (which hopefully included Reggie's surgery), a fine, and they are not allowed to own a pet for two years--I personally don't think they should ever be allowed to own one, but that's just my opinion. But I do feel like an amount of justice was served in Reggie's case, and I hope 'they' are feeling regret over how she was neglected, and maybe, just maybe, they realize the treasure they've lost.
Today our beautiful and cooler weather continues ahead of what will be another heatwave predicted for next week.  On the list today is the hopes and goal of catching up on your blogs--I so appreciate your stopping by and keeping up with us, I really enjoy reading your comments and hope you enjoy your weekend!!

  2. i dearly love all dogs. like will rogers only his (with humans) i can honestly say i have NEVER met a dog i didn't like! there are no bad dogs, only bad owners. and i'm sorry, but would take odds that those people will be mistreating another poor dog before 2 years is up.
oh well... on to what i actually meant to say!!! there is nothing like a golden's face and smile... look, even smiling while at rest!
    love and godspeed kim,
hope you're getting some well earned rest!

  3. As you say, their loss and I hope they realize it and have some understanding of what they've done too. You can tell by her face that she's a sweet gentle girl, and it's lovely that she's got such a connection with dear little Todd.

She knows she's found love, peace and compassion with you. At last, she is a lucky girl.

  4. Reggie looks quite happy in the pictures! So sad that she had been neglected - no, I don't think 2 years is long enough for her former owners to have to wait...

  5. oh, i am glad justice was served, if even in a small dose. i am SO glad she found your heart to settle into... :)

  6. I think the scum that neglected Reggie got off too easy! I truly believe that anyone who would treat an animal poorly would do the same to a human, given the opportunity! I seriously sometimes wish the punishment for animal abuse was "an eye for an eye" ~ whatever the owner did to the animal gets done to them!

    Seems fair to me...

Your photos are gloriously beautiful! I hope you have a wonderful weekend. The heat wave is supposed to hit us tomorrow.

  7. Oh my. That last picture of Reggie is so peaceful and serene. I just want to lie down beside her and kiss her. God Bless you for what you do for all of these wonderful dogs. Love the butterfly!

  10. I hope Reggie's tests show improvement. She deserves a happy healthy retirement.

It must be contagious, I spent yesterday afternoon photographing butterflies. It's frustrating because they never stop moving, but I did get a couple good ones. Not nearly as nice as yours, but acceptable.

  11. Oh my! It's appparent I've missed LOTS of goings on in your world! Must catch up. Must find out who this Todd cutie is that has infiltrated Golden Haven! So glad Reggie found you and glad her former "owner" was brought up on charges - IMO, could have been more harsh, but at least it's a start, eh?

Will be back to catch up later. Can we just tack a few extra hours onto the day for "blog reading" - would be nice to have a 26 hour day.

  12. I cannot figure out this two years without an animal that all judges seem to hand out to abusers. What do they expect to happen in two years? Stupidity is cured? Compassion happens?

  13. Kim, although I appreciate your taking the high road with Reggie's former owner, I doubt very much they accept any responsibility or feel guilt at what they did to this regal girl. That's just how these people are. I'm an eye for an eye person -- I'd love to see that done in this case.

Soap box put away now -- great butterfly photo, girl. You must share your secret. :)

  15. I'm glad that the court ruled in Reggie's favor! One thing that is horrendous in Quebec is animal rights and we are fighting to improve them all the time!

As for butterflies, I don't blame you. I'm addicted to taking pictures of them too :o)

  19. What an absolutely great face!!! Before I had a senior golden, I didn't appreciate their sugar faces. I now adore the loose white faces. There is nothing much more precious to me. It has even made me appreciate older human faces!!!

  20. I'm so glad to hear that there was justice for Reggie! So often, these cases have a very disappointing outcome. I agree with you that they shouldn't be able to have a pet again, and I'd be happy to see a much stricter sentence, but I'm glad that they got something. She's got such beautiful eyes, I can't imagine anyone not adoring her!

  21. Its quite hard for me to imagine how someone could be cruel to Reggie - or any animal for that matter. Its just awful. And I agree, they should never own a pet again.

I am so glad Reggie has a place of sanctuary and a place to truly call "home" at Golden Pines. You do great things, Kim!

Good luck at the Vet and everything else going on!

  23. I'm so glad that Reggie is safe and sound with you now. Such a sweet and wise-eyed girl deserves to live her life out in the peaceful and loving atmosphere that you will give her.

  24. I suppose they could have just received a slap on the wrist and a small fine. but we're with you...no pets of any kind ever.

Reggie is so lucky to have found you.

  25. Hi Kim,So glad to see your Reggie doing better and that hopefully those people will not have any more pets.
We went camping for two days and our Reggie was at the vet's/kennel. The vet feels he has about 3-4 wks left unless things progress more rapidly. He did give me some good info for the future pup. Have a wonderful Sunday.

  26. I agree that those people should never be allowed to have another pet... but at least there was some justice.

I can see why you love Reggie so much. What eyes! She's so lucky that she is with you.

  34. We're crossing fingers and paws that NO abnormalities show up!!! So wonderful that Reggie got to live with you - yes, we're glad to hear her abuser got some jail time, but incredible to read that they could have anOTHER dog in 2 years - THAT's a crime. Your butterfly captchas are just gorgeous - keep posting them!

PS. in 75 or 76 we paid 3,000 dollars for the 2 and a half acres 6ft high fence.
Today it would cost 30,000 dollars!!!!!

  40. I am so glad Reggie's abusers were brought to justice! So often it seems there is no consequence for animal abuse.

  41. That's sad about Reggie being neglected. She is so pretty. So glad she's safe now and getting lots of attention - medical and personal.

  42. For those of us who love animals, it's hard to fathom how anyone could abuse such precious lives. I too feel these people should NEVER be allowed to own any kind of animal ever again. And I always wonder about children in cases such as these (if there were any kids). Are they too abused? And/or are they learning that animals are expendable?

    Well it's all very sad.

But look at Reggie's sweet little happy face now! Life is good for him right now I think! ;)

    Happy Sunday Kim!

  43. Well my friend, (and this is from My Vickie) tears come from my eyes each time I read your blog and hear about the love and attention you give to these older sweeter spirits. The bad part in me, hopes that there is more justice to pay when the abusers get on the other side.....what ever that may be.

You are an angel to take care of the older more beautiful spirits. And I guess when it comes down to it, if I were a dog, and if I had to live a life of abuse, either at the end or at the beginning of my life, I would hope for it to be at the beginning so that when my spirit passes on, I will have only peace and love to take with me. not pain and anguish.

    Bless you

    Vickie

  50. GORGOUS close up pics of Reggie!! And the butterfly, wow, it is as if it is right here near me. I will never understand how people can neglect their pets, be it dogs or small animals or cats. If they are not interested in caring for them, why have the animals at all? One of life's biggest mysteries to me! Give Reggie a hug from me from afar. And one for you too, for loving all those little lost and hurt souls so very much!! ~Debby

  55. Kim, I just saw my little black and white feral cat, after quite a while of no sightings. That made me happy, and got me to wondering if your black and white feral was still around?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Hey Kim!
Still catching up on your posts but this one really made my heart happy. To hear that the previous owner will receive some punishment does give me hope for the justice system.
Sadly I think that there are just too many selfish people in this world these days and I don't think that will change anytime soon so a harsher punishment was in order I think!
Still Reggie has found her "angel" home in the end and will have a wonderful finish to her life thanks to you and Carl. Life can be good!
