Thanksgiving and a Memory

One of the things I'm thankful for today is that Todd, although he's a little worse for wear and as you can see in the picture, he's not very happy, he did just fine with his surgery yesterday.  He ate part of an evening meal and slept all night.
A question was asked on a radio station yesterday that if  you could only have one item for your Thanksgiving dinner, what would it be?  Of course the answers varied from the obvious of the turkey to someone saying their Grandmother's tripe stew (blech!!).  Mine would have to be my Mother's cornbread dressing.  There was no written recipe so it varied from year to year.  Sometimes there would be to much sage in it, other years it may have been to dry, another it would be perfect.  Even though its been a long time since I had it, I can still remember its taste and smell.  I'll be missing it and my family today....
What's your single favorite dish for Thanksgiving?  Whatever it is, and wherever your Thanksgiving takes you, I hope your day is a safe and enjoyable one!

I hope sweet Todd is up and about soon!

My favourite at Thanksgiving is the turkey. Now I have to wait for Christmas to have it again. Yum!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Kim!

Aww, I hope Todd is doing better today and recovers quickly. Poor little guy. I hope that Jasmine Bubba and Jake are also doing well.
I am not much for Thanksgiving. But if I had to choose one dish it would be the mashed potatoes.

Have a great Turkey day with family, friends and your 4 legged pets.

Todd does look a little bit down but I'm sure he'll be all bouncy soon!! I had a hard time keeping Ruairi calm - he wanted to do everything he was used to doing.

And I have to agree with you on the dressing - my Grandmother's cornbread dressing would be my pick - and it was never the same twice. Your description of your Mom's dressing fit it perfectly.

Please give Todd a kiss for me.

Poor sweet Todd he definitely looks miffed about his ordeal!
If I had to pick a memory that means Thanksgiving to me it would be helping to make the turkey with my mom while the Macy Day parade is playing in the background. We had a very tumultuous family life but holidays were always days when everyone would be in a great mood and the dinner would come off without a hitch! And yes my mom's cornbread dressing was a treat we all waited for. I have a soft spot for whole berry cranberry sauce too! Oh and cherry pie, yep great memories.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Kim, my love to all!

We are happy that Todd is OK after his procedure. That's a perfect picture to illustrate how he must feel.

Just ONE dish. Hmmm, impossible. I can whittle it down to TWO:
- Turkey leg
- Pumpkin pie

That cornbread stuffing looks and sounds great.

Happy Thanksgiving

So glad to see Todd is doing well. He is such a cutie. My favorite part of Thanksgiving is my mothers stuffing, not cornbread but regular bread with sausage, celery and onions. I can make it just fine, but it's always better when Mom makes it. Luckily I am off to Mom's later for a big helping.

Hope you and Carl and the crew have wonderful Thanksgiving.

Dear Kim
I hope that irresistible little bundle of gorgeousness is better by now - as well as the rest of your BEAUTIFUL crew. I am sorry I don't get to visit more often but the day just simply doesn't have enough hours.
Bless your soulful heart for the lovely work you do,

Happy Thanksgiving to you and Carl and your entire crew! I hope Todd is feeling better today! We have our Thanksgiving in October in Canada, so we have turkey then, but we also have it at Christmas! My one thing I have to have is my mom's stuffing!!! The Holidays just aren't right without the stuffing :o)

Definitely the stuffing for me. I love the stuffing and all the variations that people make. When I was young, Mom would make scalloped corn which was always another favorite of mine.

Todd will bounce right back once the drugs wear off. I hope the others are all right too. Have a great day.

I'm with you. It's the stuffing. My Grandmother made it the best. Mine can't compare, but it's still my favorite part of the meal.

Feel better soon, Todd.

You know, I'm so grateful that you have Todd in your life. To balance the old guys and bring you joy for a long time to come. He looks a bit dazed and confused in the photo, but it's great that he came through the surgery OK. Happy Thanksgiving, Kim, to you and your family.

Oh Todd! What can a guy say, except it will get better (not speaking from personal experience mind you!) lol

Let's see.....my favourite Thanksgiving food would have to be pumpkin pie, made from scratch.

Sweet little Todd, if only you can convince him that it will be for the best in the long term :)

As you already know, we do not celebrate the Thanksgiving meal in England, although we do have Harvest Festivals...
I have been asked so many times why this was so, it always makes me smile to explain we didn't have the pilgrims in England :)
Over the years, it is a holiday I have come to love, I miss my mother-in-laws chocolate pies more than anything...
Happy Thanksgiving Kim and Carl and all the gang at Golden Pines !
Hugs,

I was with my inlaws today and missing my family as well! If I had to pick just one thing, it would be honey glazed roasted turkey breast. Although the pumpkin turtle pie and pumpkin cheesecake I made today were really good, and a close second!
