There's nothing like a Christmas parade to give you a dose of the holiday spirit!
For me, there's just something about the simplicity that's found in small town parades.
I love their beauty...
And the poise and grace...
Of the people within them.
The sound of the music always electrifies the air...
And seeing the dogs never fails to put a smile on peoples faces...
I enjoy the riders on magnificent and beautiful horses...
That walk with their dogs...
It's always fun seeing the local groups in the parades too...with their dogs...

It's so hard to say what my favorite part is about small town parades.
I guess it's the dogs...
Did you know foxhounds don't 'wag their tails' they 'wave their sterns'? tee hee. What a lovely parade! No goats though - next year I'll have to come down and remedy that concern.

ReplyDeleteI got tears in my eyes when I saw the Great Pyrenees. I had one once. He was the best dog ever and I miss him so much!

Yep Kim for me it would be the dogs too! I love each year that immediately following the Macy Day Parade on Thanksgiving I get the National Dog Show! Dogs and holidays are a perfect combination to me.

i love small town parades. i just stand there with tears in my eyes. don't know why i always do, but i do.
i forgot how wonderful virginia is.
used to live by natural bridge. very english, always. right down to tea in the afternoon with miss india.
our parade is this saturday. there will be horses, but cowboy style.
there will be dogs, but only those viewing. there will be children though, and santa claus and probably a covered wagon or two.
since i'm an anglophile...
i especially enjoyed seeing your parade!

ReplyDeleteGreat parade and thank you for sharing it with us. I'd have to say the dogs would be the best part for me, but then they call me the dog lady! They just know they are getting lots of attention and I truly believe they love that.
ReplyDeleteOur Paw Challenged One was amazed that they could get a Healey started when the temerature is below 72 degrees. He can't start the old MG's once it falls below 60 degrees out.

We got to go to a parade last week. It was a lot of fun. I especially enjoyed the people throwing candy to me. They worked so hard getting it over to me and then mom wouldn't let me eat it. Can you believe that? The nerve....

Your parade photos made me wish I could have been there to see it for myself. All the dogs and horses...right up my alley!

That parade looked really well organized. All those Bloodhounds! And staying with their people! Saw a few of these at the Park the other day. They are an interesting breed.

WOW! I've never been a big 'parade person' but then again, I've NEVER seen a parade like this!!! How incredibly wonderful! I may try to organize a rescued canine unit in some local parades next year! Thanks for the inspiration. OMG those riders, horses and fox hounds are spectacular. If I had to pick one photo from your post it would be the close up of the three draft horse's heads. I think it is stunning and would BUY A PRINT of it if one was available! I've seen paintings with a similar set up only I believe it is snowing in the painting. It's always been one of my favorites.

ReplyDeleteIn our little town, the parade is in the spring just before Memorial Day. I love it, with all the old fashioned fun! I am feeling really envious of your Christmas parade right now, though. I'd love to see dogs in a Christmas parade!

They got it right having DOGS in the parade. What a great idea! Especially CORGIS.

Our town had its Christmas parade too this weekend, but we went to a wedding. Check it out, OK. On my blog. If you have time. Anyway, I'm glad you had a chance to relax and enjoy yourself. And the white horses were just gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI have never cared for parades, (and that is putting it mildly) but that one looked like a nice, warm, old-fashioned parade ... an enjoyable one to watch and experience. I enjoyed your pictures so much I actually wished I could have seen that parade. Thank you for sharing all the photos of it.
