Just Not Feeling It

Despite the sunny spring weather and unusually warm temperatures, I’m really having a blah week. I'd taken Tuesday morning off work because I had to take Lucas to see the dentist.  Because I didn't feel like going into work and because there was only one patient scheduled in the afternoon, I decided to just take the rest of the day off, thinking of it as a needed 'mental  health day.'  My co-workers and the doctor must have known why I took the afternoon off because no one asked how I was feeling  yesterday.

Lucas's appointment went as expected.  The dentist, who I really liked, agrees that all of his teeth should be removed.  There is so much recession, decay, bone loss and infection around his teeth that nothing can be done to save them. The treatment plan is for Lucas to have 2 surgeries to limit the amount of time he will have to be under anesthetic.  The first surgery will be to remove the worst teeth, clean everything really well and treat what will most certainly be sinus exposures from the extractions.  The second surgery will hopefully be much easier, shorter and would be done in about 4-6 weeks.  I've scheduled the first surgery for next Wednesday.  However the board of the rescue has to approve the treatment and its cost which will be around $5000. (about £3,200 or 3,804)  I spoke to the medical coordinator of the rescue last evening, and there were a few questions from board members about alternative and less expensive ways to treat his periodontal disease. Unfortunately there aren't any and it needs to be and should be done.  I feel confident that the board, in the end will agree to pay for Lucas to have this treatment.

Punxsutawney Phil
On another note, today Punxsutawney Phil, the world's smallest and furriest weather forecaster who holds perhaps the greatest responsibility of any groundhog, emerged from his burrow on Gobbler's Knob in Punxsutawney Pennsylvania saw his shadow and predicted six more weeks of winter.  I guess a winter with no snow, unusually warm temperatures and the early arrival of daffodils won't be too bad!

  6. Kim,
I so get in moods like that regardless of the weather so I try to be silent and tune in to what it is I am feeling. It could just be that there is a lot going on?
Hang in there and Thank you for fighting for Lucas! What a lovely photo of him with his paws up.

  10. I think we all need those "personal days" to gather ourselves. I try to walk on those days, though sometimes that can be an effort. Maybe those days are "cocoon days" where we just need to be swaddled in warmth.

As for Lucas...poor guy. What an awful thing to have all his teeth removed. Shall keep some good healing thoughts headed his way in the weeks to come.

  13. Hi Kim
I think you would feel better if you knew for sure that that all of Lucas's dental stuff that needs to happen- will happen.
You would probably feel better if he was already mending and the surgerys done.
Sometimes too much on our plates (and I not talking about food) just makes us feel out of sorts.
I hope you feel better soon, and that Lucas does too.
    I understand how you feel.
The daffodils will be up soon.

  14. Hi! Nice reading. WHat a good work you do with the rescued dogs. I hope Lucas will get well. I also have a dog who had a bad owner. He wanted to shoot him because he didnt hunt. He had to strong leadership. He has now been in our family for 6 years and is a very good member in the pack.

  17. Sorry to hear you aren't feeling so well. Blahness is hanging around me too...maybe sunshine and spring will chase it away. Lucas is looking so good. I feel so bad for him having to have surgery and angry at whoever didn't take care of him. He is a beautiful guy.

  20. Poor Lucas. Hope everything is okayed.

Punxsutawney Phil messed up on the predictions last year, so he may be skewed this year.

  23. I had a bad week, but doing better now. Taking some down time can be very healing so just kick back.
I'm sure that the board will OK Lucas's much needed extraction. It really sounds like he needs it, poor old guy. Given him an extra hug from us, and one for you two!

  24. Hi Y'all,

So sorry to hear about Lucas.

I can't imagine what misery those teeth must be causing him. I also can't imagine living without teeth. However, we canines are known to be very accepting and adaptable. I'm sure with the extra hugs and kisses he's bound to get...

    Paws crossed for Lucas.

    Y'all come back now,

  27. Toby sure looks happy. How is he doing with Bubba being gone?

Poor Lucas. How in the world does a dog's teeth get in such bad shape? Hope the board does the right thing.

Hope you feel better for the rest of the week.

  28. Kim, once Lucas gets squared away, can you imagine what his personality will be like? Our local GH saw nothing...maybe we'll get an early Spring which is fine by me, although the winter here has been very mild as well!...:)JP

  29. I know what you mean about a blah week...I've had several in a row and am ready for a change.

Hope all goes well with Lucas. Will he have to eat soft food after that surgery?

    "Hi" sweet Toby....

  30. I'm not feeling it either, and it seems to be an epidemic among your readers.

I'm so glad that you're getting Lucas the care that he needs. What a lucky dog.

I love your first photo... For some reason, it reminds me of springtime and bird songs but then Phil had to rain on my parade.

  31. What a good boy Lucas is! He must be in such pain! What a relief to have them gone! He will be in heaven....100%!
Our groundhog in Nova Scotia didn't see his shadow....so we should have an early spring! Yes, the weather all over has been strange this year.

  32. Hope you're feeling better Kim... Poor sweet Lucas, he's beautiful and so is Toby. Phil - not so much. Stupid groundhog.. why'd he have to see his shadow? Just kidding, of course. Have a good weekend Kim!!

  33. I think this is just a blah time of year. Hopefully things will pick up for you soon. I hope the board comes through for Lucas - just think how much better he will feel when his teeth are taken care of! A few years ago our cat William had a chronic watering eye that we couldn't seem to find the right treatment for. Then he had a few teeth taken out and his eye cleared up instantly. Go figure.

  34. Poor Lucas! But he's going to feel so much better when his mouth is cleaned up and free of infection and broken teeth and whatever else is in there. What will his diet be like, once he heals from the surgery, for the rest of his life? Amber da Weenie's brother Rusty just had to have a bunch of teeth extracted, too.

Hope you have a good weekend and get a chance to recharge your batteries.
