Friday's Hope

Aside from the space-shuttle Discovery coming to our area, the week has been an uneventful one.  Fog has started our day, but it's forecast to be a beautiful day ahead. The weekend is supposed to bring much needed showers and cooler temperatures.  This means that our grass which really needs to be mowed, won't.
For about a week now, the Eastern Phoebe that has built its nest above our garage door is sitting tightly on 5 eggs that as of yesterday, have yet to hatch.  She has gotten so used to our coming and going that she never leaves the nest when we exit the garage, or stand under the nest.
I have taken today off work because our boy Sam needs to be taken to the vet. Seemingly overnight, a hard lump appeared on the left side of his muzzle.  I think it may be a root abscess, because the tooth beneath it appears to be in good condition--However having just gone through all the dental work with Lucas, I think my opinion of  'good condition' has changed.  But I'm hoping it's nothing (too) serious.
I'm hoping you've had a good week and enjoy your day!
~Wendy~

  1. You're lucky to have such a beautiful little visitor, I've never heard of an Eastern Phoebe before. I'm guessing it is similar to our Swallows who only come back for the summer..and sure enough I saw a couple of them yesterday. Do hope Sam will be okay, fingers crossed.

  5. I hope everything turns out well for Sam. We have Phoebes too. They had a huge nest up high under our eaves and then I noticed part of it had been knocked down:-( The Jays? I don't know for sure, but they are now working on a new nest exactly where they had one for a few years before we had the house painted. I love the Phoebes and wish the bigger bad birds would leave them alone.

  8. That bird certainly has a pretty nest! It's looks like a little "arts & crafts" nest made by hands. I agree with John Gray...the vet should come to you! Hope Sam is okay and it's nothing major. Keep us updated.

  9. Wee have bluebirds nesting in one of our houses for the first time since we've live in our home. Also, another bird (I don't know what it is) is nesting in our maple outside our front door. I need to get a better look at it. Love spring!

  10. I hope Sam's vet visit is routine and the situation quickly remedied so that YOU can relax and enjoy a wonderful weekend. It sounds like perfect weather for curling up and reading a good book ~ or for brushing dogs and saving the dog hair to send to me so I can get to work on that scarf...

  18. How cool to have that nest so close to the house. Our bluebirds have hatched their first brood of the summer. Not sure how many there are as we don't like to disturb them, but mom and dad are working their tail feathers off feeding them.

  25. I hope all goes well for Sam.
MOM just loves when birds nest where she can see them and watch and the little ones go from in an egg to soaring.

  26. Hope Sam's problem is not a big one. Looks as if you might get some rain. Either way, enjoy the weekend.

  27. We hope the lump is nothing major--poor fellow.

We've had a quiet week and NONE of the predicted rain. Our lawn has stopped growing and we'll have to water it very soon.

We love the picture of Todd. Actually, we love any picture of Todd.

    XXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy

Quiet weeks can be preferable when you look at what's happening elsewhere in the world.

  30. Seems like we just get one healed when another develops some new malady. Samba is very unhappy with her new hat. She'd much rather chew her foot off.
