The church that I attend is partnering with other charitable organizations to do a county wide food drive. The goal is to collect 100,000 pounds of food, which would be enough to feed our counties 'food insecure' for an entire week. I am the 'representative' from my congregation and have been given the responsibility to organize the food-drive in the part of the county that I live in.

To boost donations the local towns need to be involved. To get the town's approvals, and their support, this has meant attending town council meetings which are being held this week--The last two nights I've attended two of them. Suffice it to say, I've been so glad to get home at the end of both of them...And I am vowing to never, ever get involved in town politics!!

I have one more meeting to attend this week.
I'm so very glad I have taken this afternoon off work!!!!

I can feel your pain. Even in a little town like mine, the politics are horrid. Bless your heart for helping those less fortunate.
ReplyDeleteAnd so it goes here too. But, I do love politics...just not the dirty kind. 100,000 pounds that will last one week...what a huge undertaking.
ReplyDeleteCommunity involvement is so important.
Kudos.
I understand completely. Just remember that you are doing it for the dogs.
ReplyDeleteAh well unfortunately if everyone vows to stay out of it then "they" can do whatever they want and someone needs to keep an eye on "them". ;)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with you food raising goal. Seems so ambitious. Let us know how it goes. Love today's pictures.
Isn't that sad that we have to play those games? Hopefully, just your representation will suffice.
ReplyDeleteBut...I LOVE the picture of Lucas! It makes me smile.
Berte
Oh, your POOR DOGS!
ReplyDeleteThis is, obviously, quite stressful on them!
Enjoy your afternoon off...
;-)
We don't attend anything having to do with local politics or even neighborhood politics. Those kind of meetings only end in hard feelings.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are jumping through the hoops for a good cause...quite an undertaking! LOve your header pic!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you are helping those in need. I just wish politics didn't have to get in the way.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Goose
That's quite a daunting task, sorry you have to wade through the mud of politics to achieve your goal.
ReplyDeleteNice photos ! Hope your charity reaches their goal ! Have a good day !
ReplyDeletesuch sweet pups. i don't envy you, kim!
ReplyDeletei know! hire madame bay to come over in all her glory and attend them with you. they'll be so gobsmacked they won't have time to get their catty on!
ReplyDeleteyou're a treasure.
as if you don't have enough to do.
and the pics of the crew are so cute. i see lucas is still covering up. and sammy is flat out like a lizard in the sun!
love and hugs,
tammy j
good luck at the next meeting. Politics and religion is not one subject I discuss with anyone. Hope all goes well at the meeting. Love the pictures of Lucas. He is adorable. Sammy looks so sweet and Toby under the tree he seems surprised about something. Too cute. by the way who is in the background rolling in the grass? My Roscoe does that all the time. Especially after my husband mows the lawn.
ReplyDeleteTFS. Ana
100,000 lbs sounds an awful lot. Good luck ! Amazing people are having to do this in the 21st century . Sounds so much like the 30's.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck with your food drive hang in there, your efforts will be so appreciated! Love the doggy pics, they obviously understand what you're going through! Happy belated birthday to Todd (what a sweet birthday post you did for his 1st birthday!)
ReplyDeleteLove the dogs! Life is so much better with dogs!
ReplyDeleteLana
Wow do you think you can toss in a few other responsibilities into that busy life of yours?
ReplyDelete*hugs*
ReplyDeleteLove your pictures. Good luck with the food drive!
I love the picture of Lucas. Is that meant to illustrate how you feel about politics?
ReplyDeleteCindy
I think the picture of Luc is perfect.
ReplyDeleteLooks like he is saying: "Oh NO, not another town council meeting"
We cood all learn a fing or teu from Toby, Lucas and Sammy.
ReplyDeleteJuss sayin.

Our local food bank does a cooperative drive with the Post Office. People on the mail routes are given the dates for the pickup, then the postal carriers deliver the mail and pick up the food which goes to the Food Bank. Works slick! Then our local library gave amnesty to those with overdue books, if they would bring in foodstuffs! The library had a big food buggy to hold them and wound up delivering many, many fill-ups of the food cart to the BAnk! Lots of good ideas out there for this kind of thing.
ReplyDeleteGood luck,
Jo, Stella and Zkhat
Perfect photos for this post!!!
ReplyDeleteHang in there, Lady, it's for a great cause...good for you!
xoxo
Great photos! Just remember it's all for a good cause, but then you do cover a lot of good causes!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I hear you! It makes me admire all the more the (seemingly few) fine folks who do get involved and manage to keep their good hearts and justice-based values intact without losing their sanity in the process! So good for you for sticking it out and making a contribution - once again you make the world a better place!
ReplyDeleteWe think politicians are like snakes--good for keeping the mice and rats down, but they'll react like snakes if they appear threatened. Best to steer clear of them.
ReplyDeleteHope you get even more than you've asked for....it could be a good photo shoot for a politician, so they might go for it!
XXXOOO Daisy, Bella &Roxy
I agree with you about politics, I try to steer clear as much as possible!
ReplyDeleteI saw your guv on television and thought he was very dismissive of women and their rights. Very slick and very condescending.
ReplyDeleteKudos to you for doing such important (and difficult) things.
My vote is going for Lucus in this post... so cute!!
ReplyDeleteGee, that's a lot of food that I know will help.
ReplyDeleteYou never know what kind of traps you will get yourself into when you volunteer to help out! I can just imagine how glad you were to get home after the meeting, and when its all over-you will be really glad!
Lucas looks like he has had enough!, Sammy says this is all making his sleepy! and Toby wants to get away from it all!
I bet you do too!
love

That photo of Lucas is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI recently got involved in a local cause, one that all of us local residents could agree on. Yet, I've never seen such terribly bad interpersonal conflicts as within that group. I will be withdrawing from local politics for a long time!
What a great cause you are working for... I hope that the painful part is over soon.
Too bad you have the politics has to go along with a good deed! I' with Lucas on this one! LOL!
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures of the dogs. And I couldn't agree with you more about politics. But what you are doing for the needy is so great.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Lucas -- I'll just cover my eyes (and my ears) until Election Day. :)
ReplyDeleteI couldn't figure out what Lucas was doing, until I enlarged it, now I see he is playing peek-a-boo :)
ReplyDeleteI don't envy you having to deal with the local politicians. I've had my share of that, it's too much of a headache :)
On the other hand, kudos for helping with the food drive !
~Jo
Hi Kim, Wow what a busy lady you are. Sending lots of sun, sand and fun your way.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Noreen
Guess I'm glad there are peeps out there doing that...but I just can't deal with politics...gets me all twitchy or something!
ReplyDeleteTwitchy smitchy!! lol I like politics but not enough to ever be directly involved. Thank god there those who are into it, otherwise can you just imagine the state of things! lol I know, things could be a lot better.
ReplyDeleteGood work Kim for the food drive.
If you do the right thing for the right reason, you'll never be sorry. Too bad not everyone has that philosophy. I think most politicians don"t. Good for you for trying!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Sammy...I'd rather nap!!
I have missed so much these last few weeks and now I am trying to play catch-up, but I had to stop by and see what you were up to! I am with you on the political thing. I just can't bear it any longer, maybe I got old or bored or just rose above it all but I avoid all political events and programs like the plague.
ReplyDeleteI hope everyone at your house has been well and I will be checking your past posts this weekend to see what I missed! Have a great weekend Kim and my love to the whole darned crew!
Tina xo
I don't blame you in the least! Nothing can raise my blood pressure more! Love the doggies' pictures.
ReplyDeleteKim - you are so incredible to always be reaching out to help others - other doggehs, other people. I admire you so, sooooo much, especially when you don't have huge amounts of time. You just rock! But LOVE the expressions on Toby's, Lucas' and Sammy's faces - wonderful!
ReplyDeleteHappy Weekend xoxo
Sammie, Avalon and Mom
Bless you for helping the hungry... town politics, not my cup of tea either!
