I heard from my Vet on Saturday about the tests that were done, and as expected, Lucas has a high white blood cell count indicating an infection. Its been decided that Lucas will be returning to see 'his' veterinary dentist to confirm that the tooth in question is the culprit and from there we'll decide on treatment options. I wonder what Lucas thinks about seeing the dentist.....

What Does Lucas Think?
THANK-YOU all for the good thoughts you've sent for Lucas! I think they've helped and made a difference! By late yesterday afternoon he was seeming more like himself. And this morning I was greeted by a Lucas who was wagging his tail and happily accepted a treat. We are of course grateful and feeling relieved.

I expect he thinks like me 'NO not the dentist, anything but the dentist!' Bless him, so pleased he is feeling more like his old self.
ReplyDeleteSo glad he is more responsive!
ReplyDeleteGood to know poor old Lucas is on the mend .
ReplyDeleteYey!!!!! way to go sweet Lucas......will keep him in my prayers......give the good boy a big hug from me, Blessings Francine.
ReplyDeleteI would feel the same way Lucas. But if it makes you feel better then I guess it must be. I will still hold him in my prayers.

ReplyDeleteHi Kim - I am glad Lucas is feeling better. Poor little thing must have felt awful with toothache. Will he have to have special food if he hasn't many teeth left? xxx
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear that Lucas is feeling better.
ReplyDeleteCindy

"Life at Golden Pines" has been included in the A Sunday Drive for this week. Be assured that I hope this helps to point even more new visitors in your direction.

I didn't know he had been sick, but I thought about him the other day. About how happy he must be, living with you rather than fending for himself on city streets with a toothache and an owner who couldn't care less. It is so wonderful to know that there are people like you who can and will help.
ReplyDeleteoh I hope ll goes well for Lucas at the dentist...he's such a cutie
ReplyDeleteAll your dogs are beautiful, but I think Lucas wins the prize for the most beautiful face. Our Frankie is missing many teeth (that he broke off as a puppy when we didn't yet understand separation anxiety and then had to have removed) so the tongue-hanging-out look is a familiar and dear one to me!
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping Lucas continues to feel better, even if it means a trip to the dentist!
poor sweetie. i hope they can get it attacked soon!
ReplyDeleteThe " bored" last photo...is always a good sign
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that Lucas is feeling better! As for seeing the dentist, I'd be relieved if it was going to get rid of a toothache!
ReplyDeletewell, at least it sounds like it was the tooth. That is good. It's disappointing that he has to go back to 'the dentist' but hopefully all will work out okay without too much fuss.
ReplyDeleteSo glad he is feeling better!

A tooth, may that be the culprit, and more easily fixed than something hidden inside. Lucas, smile sweetly, open wide, Kim will give you heaps of TLC and you'll be back to your usual self so soon.If only they could talk with words, never mind, his eyes say so much. Greetings from Jean
ReplyDeleteBite the bullet, Lucas, and visit the dentist. I have to go too one of these days . . .no, not this one, another day!
ReplyDeleteI do know that many dogs can get along OK with few teeth. Just rearrange your canine grocery list!
Jo, Stella and Zkhat
Oh no - not another dental visit (I know the feeling) - but paws crossed that the tooth is the problem and nothing else.
ReplyDeleteSweet Lucas, here's hoping you start feeling better soon.

He certainly looks good....fingers crossed for the tooth!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear about his wagging tail and smiling dispostition!...:)JP
ReplyDeleteIf he likes the dentist as much as I do I know exactly what he's thinking. And I have a good dentist. He's thinking... Nooooooooo!
ReplyDeleteokay, enough of the dentist bashing!! LOL I'm married to one so I can say that:) I'm sure Lucas will feel better soon (especially if it's an infected tooth and the problem can be resolved by removing it) Thank goodness there are doggie dentists!!
ReplyDeleteHugs to Lucas and the rest of the pack at GOlden Pines.
p.s. Lucas, if they have extract the tooth--demand ICE CREAM!!! :)
NOT THE DENTIST!!! Poor Lucas, just as he was feeling a bit better!
ReplyDeleteI'm happy Lucas is feeling better. Have a great new week!
ReplyDeleteSending big hugs and good wishes to Lucas...and you!

ReplyDeleteHi Kim, We were gone for the weekend so I hope Lucas continues to feel better. We started getting heavy snow last night in the mountains and has continued to snow. I hope you've been able to stay inside and stay warm.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Noreen
SO glad Lucas feels better! Hoping a dental trip will be the cure. Not fun but easier than what it COULD have been. Hope you're having a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteM
So glad that Lucas is being himself. Hope the doctor visit goes well, please keep us informed. Have a great sunday, atleast what is left of it. Ana
ReplyDeleteWe are soooooooo happy he's feeling better, but another visit to the dentist is a bummer.
ReplyDeleteXXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy
Oh poor baby Lucas. We hope the medication will help clear up the problem so you wont have to see the dentist......but if you need to have it pulled, we send you strength and our love.
ReplyDeleteBert
Good luck with Lucas.
ReplyDelete*hugs* ♥
He's such a sweet boy !
ReplyDeleteI 'spect once they give him the feel-good injection he'll be in his own little world :)

I think he's going to need extra treats leading up to his dental visit..... :)
ReplyDeleteThe tongue hanging out the side reminds me of our Hunter. He had a thyroid problem, when he got back on his meds,he stopped doing that.
ReplyDeletePrayers still for Lucas as being under anestesia is sometimes scarey, hoping getting the tooth out makes his infection go away.He has such a pretty, gentle face.phyllis
It's so hard when one of our pets is not feeling well and we don't know why. Good for you for being so sensitive to his change in behaviour. Hope all is well :)
ReplyDeleteWoof! Woof! No one likes to go to the dentist ... Good luck to you Lucas ... as for more treats. Golden LOVE. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar

Sound like your on top of it. Hang in there Lucas!
ReplyDeleteOh Kim, I haven't read my favorite blogs in a few days & lookee here... lo & behold Lucas was ill & I didn't even know it.
ReplyDeleteStorming heaven on behalf of sweet precious Lucas!! Bless that angel & kiss the top of that darling head for me. Please keep us posted (I know you will without me even suggesting it).
Blessings on all of you on your homestead--Andrea
XOXOXO
Poor Lucas and his mouth! We're glad he's feeling better. Maybe it's an infection that can be cured without further extractions, not that having 3 teeth instead of 4 would probably make much practical difference in his life. We're keeping our paws crossed for him.
ReplyDeleteJed does the exact same thing when he's sick or needs mama to get up at night [whether for him or for Abby]. He sits by the bed and stares, and when that doesn't work, he puts his paws up on the bed like he's praying. If that doesn't work, he stands up, paws on the bed, and bounces a little. Targeted escalation, but only as much as is required to get the job done.
I am happy that Lucas is feeling better too! Thank goodness you knew what was wrong.

Great shots of Lucas! I think his expressions say it all.
ReplyDeleteI hope the infection is gone by now!
