Good Signs

It was a beautiful sunny Saturday that included another visit to the vet.  This time it was for Sheba and Todd.  With the exception of Sheba's really bad ear infection, both dog's are healthy.  There's no doubt that Sheba and Todd share a connection to one another.  Todd always tries to get her to play with him, and while she does, at almost 8 years old her interest in a game of chase doesn't last as long as Todd's does. But yesterday I witnessed something that I've never seen before between my dogs.  Todd took his exam all in stride and there wasn't a single objection to the good once over or a vaccine he received.  But when the vet looked into Sheba's sore ear and she whined, Todd suddenly became protective of Sheba and started barking at vet and put himself between the two of them.  I quieted Todd, but when it happened again, it was decided to do the exam in another room.  Todd is a very territorial dog when it comes to defending his home turf, I just had no idea it extended to his pack mates too. The relationship dogs within a pack have with one another never ceases to amaze or interest me.
On the flip-side there is of course Cissy.  Your continued good thoughts for her are truly making a difference, and it means a lot!  As you may well have guessed, there was a really big concern early on that Cissy's diagnosis was going to be one that she could not recover from, or one that was contagious to our dogs.  Thankfully each of those illnesses have finally been ruled out. However there is no doubt that Cissy has a long way to go to become fully healthy again.  Her energy level is low, and she's still sleeping a lot of the time.  But there has been a bit of an increase in her appetite, and yesterday she spent a little time outside meeting our crew and soaking up the warm sun.  I'm taking all those things as a good sign.
Happy Easter, enjoy your Sunday!!
~Charlie~

  3. Happy to hear Cissy is coming a long. It may be a long road, but each step is cause for celebration. And way to go may dog Todd. Gotta protect the pack. I know that some might think it was bad that you got a little protective, but I see it as overflowing love.
    Happy Easter!

  10. Hi Kim,

You go Todd! He knows to keep a sharp eye out for his family too!

Thank you for the update on sweet Cissy. It is so nice to see her outside in the fresh air.

I'm sure the pups are all rooting for her to get better so she may join them in their walks and playtime too.

Love and hugs to your family and all the pups!

  16. I am glad to hear vet checks went well and that Cissy is slowly improving ! Maybe she is always sleeping and has no energy cause she has a vitamin deficiency and or is anemic ! Hope all goes well though for Cissy . Yup Miggs would do the same thing but over me if anyone was to approach me in a threatening manner or hurt me . The weather here has been lovely as well , today it is raining on and off ! Hope you have a wonderful Easter today !

  18. I am so happy to hear there is some hope for Cissy. It all sounds pretty good, but will take time. I keep thinking how wonderful it must be for her to be clean, loved, and cared for. I used to enjoy the pack dynamics when we had a lot of dogs and some cats at the same time. Angel raised Samson, for example, and that was such a joy to watch. Now there's only two left and they have to live separately. No fun, but that's the way it is.

  19. Happy Easter to you and yours Kim. I love that Todd is so protective-I think he deserves an extra treat for that. Glad Cissy isn't physically contagious-I know she will thrive under your care.
    Have a great day.

  21. Kim, we don't have dogs, but if one of our cats is sick, the other one or more hang round very close, doing a sort of patrol to keep watch. Cissy, such an improvement, her eyes look happy, and good news about the tests, one step forward. Cheers from Jean

  30. Every photo you show of Cissy shows a bit more life ... sweet Cissy ... and sweet, silly, territorial-but-means-well Todd. Glad to hear that things are going your way for now.

    Happy Easter.

  34. Sheba and Todd are family now. And we know that family bonds are very strong sometimes. Sheba has her own protector in Todd!
Nice to see Cissy getting stronger.

  35. That is so sweet about Todd and Sheba. I bet she is so appreciative to have him fight for her. Happy all seems to be going ok - so sorry to hear about the tennis ball mystery. I will be hoping and praying it doesn't turn out at all like my Kong incident and instead all pieces pass successfully through. :) Happy Sunday.

  36. It is indeed a wonderful sign! I do believe her eyes are brighter and she is showing a little playfulness and comfort with her little chin n her paw! Cissy really does look better. Poor baby, This is the first time she has probably been given any tlc and she is starting to respond.
I do believe that good restful sleep is a huge contributor to her getting well. And she is already starting to respond. Such good news that the two illnesses we were all worried about are not a concern!
I think Todd is so endearing. How sweet that he wants to protect sweet Sheba.
Sure hope Carl continues to improve.
    Hugs to you all!

  43. I've taken a computer hiatus, so I just caught up on the Cissy story. You have a heart of gold, Kim. Truly. I'm not surprised that you're starting to see a spark - Cissy found the perfect savior. You are the complete opposite of the awful and unspeakable person who put her in this situation. She is so very lucky that you have a heart of gold.

I also love the story of Todd protecting Sheba, even if his protectiveness was a little scary in that situation. It is fascinating to watch our dogs' relationships.

  44. Great Cissy news Kim. However, if by any chance she doesn't make it, she will have had a REALLY happy time with you. I'm sure she will though!

  50. Awwwww.... it sounds like Todd is quite the protective gentleman! *haha* That's precious to read, bless his heart! And Cissy... lucky lucky Cissy! She is resting in the peace, the love, the food, the care. She probably has a lot of sleep to catch up on...and how wonderful that she's able to do just that.

    You rock, my friend... totally!

  51. What sweet puppies. I follow Ann @ studiohyde and you mentioned on her last post a blog you follow on the Isle Of Wight. Since I have a journal book I got years ago of someone who lived there in the late 1800's I would love to check out their blog.. could you let us have the link to it? Ann said she is interested too. Thanks.
