I've mentioned before how when I was growing up on an army post, school was never canceled because of snow, so I enjoy those “snow days” from work now. Carl on the other hand, grew up in Wisconsin and he got a few of those snow-days off from school. Today for some reason he was reminded of how exciting it was for him to have those snow days and what great fun it was to “sled” and build snowmen. Of course I did those same things. However not all of us had sleds, so we made do with a friends, or pieces of cardboard and various items that we borrowed from summer like a zip sled (meant to be used in the water) and inner tubes.
The other thing that I always enjoy about snow-days is the food. As a kid, when we would finally come in for lunch, it was always Campbell’s (canned) soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. Today after the dogs and I had been outside for awhile it was a creamy tomato soup and crisp grilled cheese. To me it's the quintessential winter lunch and takes me right back to childhood.
It was another good day at home.

sounds awesome since all of you were there together. i enjoyed campbell's tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches as lunch when i was a kid. thanks for the smile. :)
ReplyDeleteoh I'm enjoying your snow day...grilled cheese and tomato soup!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteOMD, Dad went nuts when he saw the"Mater Soup and Cheese", says he ate that every day for like 87 years as a kid!, cause he is old!

Hi Kim
ReplyDeleteYour snow is so beautiful and I am so glad that you and Carl got to enjoy a snow day together.
I think your lunch was perfect. That is exactly what we have been eating a lot of .
Sweet doggy faces- so kissable

Oh Yes. Now that is what we are going to have for lunch tomorrow. It reminds me of my childhood as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the idea. I'll enjoy it just after I shovel for the 5,000th time. For some reason your snow looks so much prettier than ours. Ah the other side of the fense thinking..
I saw all the snow you were getting in your area on the news. Around here the schools might close with severe snow but businesses never close. I'm just glad that I don't work any more and can sit in the house and not have to worry about driving in a blizzard. I just get to go out to the back yard and play with the pups. Your grilled cheese sandwich looks great!
ReplyDeleteCindy
My peep agrees about the winter food!
ReplyDeleteAlthough she's never seen snow. On a rainy day her mum would always make toasted sandwiches and tinned tomato soup... Memories!
Wowwww what a snow !!!!...love Ria...x !
ReplyDeleteLove grilled cheese and tomato soup...classic. We are just getting a lot of snow now...very windy too.
ReplyDeleteTomato soup and grilled cheese....must be one of those Mother craft things.
ReplyDeleteYou pictures of the snow are just beautiful.
XXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy
Aww, those snowy pictures look lovely. Do you get snow every year?
ReplyDeleteKim, a day at home, with super warming food and soup, sounds so good, Looks like someone enjoys the snow!! Greetings from Jean
ReplyDeleteYour place looks pretty covered in snow. A fun snow day, sledding and playing with the dogs. The tomato soup and grilled cheese is one of my favorites too. Shadow is a cutie! Have a happy day!
ReplyDeleteYou got a whole lot more snow that we did! From what I could see on weather.com, we rode the line between rain and snow all morning, so all we got was crusty snow and more ice. It's a shame, from Ruby's perspective, because she loves playing in snow.
ReplyDelete... one more thing. Did I already know that you're an Army Brat, too? Maybe THAT'S why we hit it off so quickly.
ReplyDeleteAnother Campbell's Tomato Soup fan here. My gosh, my Mom always made that for me in cold weather or when you didn't feel good (cold or tummy ache) and it always made you feel better. I still do that; have it stuck in my brain forever.
ReplyDeleteAnd...hello beautiful Shadow.
Morning Kim, looks like you live here in Manitoba with all that snow.....Yummy, one of my favourite comfort foods, always had that growing up and still a favourite, now I want a bowl of Tomato soup, Hugs Francine.
ReplyDeleteI grew up in snow country too, and we would have that same lunch. Now I'm in the mood for a grilled cheese sandwich :-)
ReplyDeleteTomato soup, yummy! Shadow looks so beautiful and Todd looks really handsome when his head is in the snow!! I just totally love your goldens all of the bottom of my heart. :-)
ReplyDeleteI now live in a region that hasn't had snow since 1960. I don't miss snow but your post reminded me how much I miss snow days. Thanks for the memories.
ReplyDeleteYour snow looks so beautiful and I am glad you all got time off from work to get out and enjoy it. Oh, you pulled at my heart strings with the Campbell's tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches.
ReplyDeleteI am praying for snow, sick of dirty ice. And since you have lived in Alaska you know we don't get snow days but we do get freezing rain days like last week.
Happy Holidays!
I love griLled cheese and tomato soup as well as the snow, but most of all...the dogs!...:)JP
ReplyDeleteLOVELY snow scenes! I'wish we had some here - it's SO mild at the moment. Sorry I've been off the radar for a bit!
ReplyDeleteAw, you captured the excitement and fun of a snow day so perfectly. We had the same lunch on cold sledding days! I bet the dogs loved having you both home.
ReplyDeleteGreat (and tasty) photos! Enjoy your snow day. ♥
ReplyDeleteComfort food is such a nice treat on cold winter days!
ReplyDeletethe dogs look like they love the snow and having you home. We finally got out today after being iced in for 6 days. this is unbelievable for Texas.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures...not a fan of tomato soup.
ReplyDeleteAroo to you,
Sully
Winter at its best! Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteMonty and Harlow
I love snow and find we don't get enough here in the South of England to satisfy me! We have just bought a house on a sheep farm in the Welsh mountains though so I am hoping for a lot of snow there. Keep having fun. Lily and luigi. xxx
ReplyDeletePERFECT!!!
ReplyDeleteSending warm hugs ...
oh shadow. that sweet face!
ReplyDeleteand i had to laugh . . .
absolutely the best winter lunch!
takes you STRAIGHT back to the kitchen table at home.
and finding stuff to slide on . . . because no. whoever had a sled? LOL
this was a great post. xoxo
I always get so happy when you get a day off. You have so much on you plate and I know you enjoy being home with the cat and the dogs.
ReplyDeleteThink snow days off are better than just a regular day off...
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to enjoy the snow day! mmmmm....I love hot soup and a sandwich on a chilly day. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Y'all!
ReplyDeleteMy Human Papa said the schools in the mountains never closed for snow when he was a boy. My Human lived on the coast though and said there were rare times they got a big snow and school closed, but not often.
Y'all come by now,
