I have a lot of fears. Well, maybe not a lot, but at least two or three.
~Todd, not afraid of what's under the barn~
One I've not made a secret about, and that's snakes. My toes curl and I hold my breath when I think about encountering them. So, it's just best we move onto another that I have.
~On our porch this summer... YIKES!~
I’m scared of the dark. Crazy, right? Yes I know.... Being 50+ years old and being afraid of the dark, I really should know better. But I have been since I was a kid.
However even as grown woman a teeny-tiny part of me remains convinced that something will emerge from the darkness to “get me,” even though my rational mind knows this isn’t the case. (is it?) But that’s the thing about fears, they aren’t always rational, are they?
~Sunny has a fear of the camera~
With Carl gone this fear seems to be a bit magnified. I know, I have the dogs, and I know they'll scare anyone or anything away with just their barking.
But its happened anyway. Especially now as the nights are full of the symphony of night insects. Hearing the buzzing, whirring and twirring at night is something that I love most about living in the country in the summer.
~Josh fears having his ears cleaned~
But not being able to see them and what’s in front of me leaves me feeling very unsettled…uneasy…uncomfortable. Which is why I don't step out into the yard and onto the grass after dark, I think it's just safer that way! However, I did stay outside long enough to make a little video of the nighttime cacophony, while I stood (safely) on the back porch...next to the open door...just in case ... Enjoy your weekend!
Oh you'll be fine . The dogs will make sure all is good ! I understand what you mean though I would go nuts if Papa was not here at nights . I don't mind snakes . Thanks for sharing , Have a good weekend and don't watch any scary movies he he !
Hi - I am petrified of spiders and now that my husband is working away in the week I am on full alert. Living in an old farmhouse which was a holiday let for years has meant there are lots of really huge ones that have to be 'led to a place far outside'!! It is very dark here at night too. Having spent all my life until now living in a town I am still adjusting to the incredible darkness of a rural night. Luigi is my security blanket as are your canine protectors. Have a lovely weekend. xxx
i feel safer in the dark outside without a flashlight than with one. figure if i have one shining, that makes me an easy target. without one, we're on equal (dark) footing. :)
You'll be fine It is pretty noisy at your place, but, no bull frogs? You know how often I am alone, I know at times it can get scary, but I'm still here...........
Hi Kim. I am petrified of snakes. If I see one I will even dream of them and won't even get up to go se the bathroom thinking one is under the bed. I don't even sit on my toilet at nights thinking one is in the toilet. I know call me crazy. I love to sleep in the dark, and would love to live out in the country and leave the city life, but that is crazy scary for me. i know you have the dogs to protect but these are fears within us and won't just leave. Have a safe weekend and thanks for not being emberrased or afraid to express your fears with us. Ana
With all of your furry clan, I think that someone may think twice before contemplating making a move at GP! The sounds do sound like background noise to a scary movie.....however, they are creatures of God and he loves to make music.
Lovely night music, and yes, snakes would be on my list if they were in NZ, meantime I have rats, mice, and thunder, at the top of my Scary list. Your family doggies will always be there to keep you safe, no matter what. Take care, Jean.
We've had a bear meandering around our street for a couple of weeks so I really look in all directions when I take Lucy out at 9:00. Now that summer is winding down, it is totally dark by then. I'm not really afraid, just uber-cautious.
Kim, with all the dogs you have around I would say you are safe..from the dark and snakes.. I just pray they are not poisonous snakes.. The night time sounds are exactly what I hear here too. Love your cute puppydogs..Have a happy weekend!
WOWZERS that's some darkness. Like you my MOM (and me too) love the sounds of the night, unless it is a scratching at the back door when I am INSIDE. {shutter}. That's MOM's shutter. I just stand at the door and give a low growl and soon it stops. Blessings, Goose
Fears are just nighmares aren't they!!? Spiders!!! oh gosh,,,, and if we had your snakes-- yes- we would be afraid of them too. Its so brave of you to face these fears- the best you can- and you are!! And the video-- well I know you know how much we love it! love tweedles

My human shares your dislike of snakes - luckily we don't have snakes here in New Zealand (except behind glass in zoos) but she freaked out when she sawlive onesclose up and less than 3 feet away from her while travelling in Mexico, Tokyo, the former Yugoslavia and luri=king in long grass the UK! Of course if there ever was a snake in NZ, just like Todd and the rest of your Golden pack would do for you, Enzo and I would protect her. Well at least that is what she would like to think :)
Definitely snakes for me. I have been able to deal with (kill) two this past year that were slithering about. They were harmless snakes but I just can't stand to look down and be startled by them.
YOU ARE A BRAVE GIRL!!! Take a picture of an "S" word (as we call them in these parts as I can't even SAY it) let alone LOOK at one! I can't even imagine!!! Brave beyond words! :) Great pics as always.. Hope you have a great weekend.

ReplyDeleteI'm afraid of thunderstorms. It's hard to reassure the dogs when I'm just as scared as they are.
ReplyDeleteThe dogs will protect you! Don't worry! Have a great weekend!

ReplyDeleteOh I feel your pain...we had a mouse in the house 2 days ago and I thought I'd lose my mind!
ReplyDeleteDon't see anything wrong with any of your fears. I have the same ones and more besides.
ReplyDelete*hugs*
Have a blessed weekend, Kim. ♥
We don't like snakes either because here you've got a 99.9% chance of it being venomous!
ReplyDeleteLove those summer sounds...
Hi Y'all!
ReplyDeleteMy Human always says if you don't fall down 'cause you can't see, the dark is safe 'cause no one can see you. She likes the night sounds too.
Y'all come by now,
