Safe at Home

~Over the hedge first thing this morning~
Our week ends with weather that could not be any more beautiful with bright sun and perfect fall temperatures. When I got home from work we enjoyed some outside time. Cissy (below) seemed lost in thought as she just sat and enjoyed the last rays of sun in the cool grass.
Cricket ends her week finally feeling pretty good.  I didn't mention it, but she was a little sick last weekend, causing her appetite to be a bit off this week. Because of her kidney issues when she doesn't eat, it concerns me.  Her eating habits can best be compared to a cats because she's so finicky, and because if I mix cat food with her kibble, she'll usually eat. So, that's what I've been doing. I don't really like her eating canned cat food, but if she'll eat, I'm all for it.  But I decided to enlist the help of one of the girls at the shop where I buy the dog's food to try to find something a bit more nutritious for her and not meant for cats.  We found something that at least for tonight fooled this little girl who gobbled down every single bite of her dinner for the first time in about a week.
Finally, this takes me to Charlie.  I really appreciated all for your thoughts and view points on what happened with him last weekend in the grocery store parking lot.  I did call our local sheriff's office about it on Monday. They'd not had any reports from anyone else about this type of thing happening. But the Deputy agreed that it could have possibly been an attempt to maybe steal Charlie from my van or to get money from me for him. And just as some of you suggested, the Deputy also recommended that I leave him at home instead of in my van unattended.  So safely at home is where my blue-eyed boy will stay for now.
Wherever you 'stay' this weekend, I hope it's an enjoyable one!

  5. Looks misty in the morning. Sounds like the week settled down. We think that at Cricket's age, let her eat what she wants.......

Our vet said it's okay for dogs to eat cat food, but it is not okay for cats to eat dog food......good thing because our springer loved friskies

  12. I know how tough it can be to feed a dog with failing kidneys. You do what you have to to get them to eat. Glad to hear everyone is doing well.

  13. I just read the Charlie encounter post. I would have been scared too and I think it's good you got the sheriff involved. I think I speak for all lost and homeless dogs when I say God Bless and I hope for many, many more years of senior dogs at Golden Pines. I have no Idea how you can stand the losses, but you do with such courage.

  15. I'm having so much trouble finding something that Morgan will eat. She doesn't want the same thing twice and it's driving me crazy.

  16. Happy to hear all is well on the eastern front.
Um... I guess some scammers steal dogs and wait for a reward poster and their partner "finds" the dog for the reward.
    Sissy is looking good!
Um... That doesn't mean you can't take Charlie for a ride for ice cream...

  19. It was a scary story with a scary man. Probably someone trying to make a quick buck .This sort of thing happens more and more frequently and will probably become even more commonplace.

  21. Hi Kim: That was a creepy story about Charlie. I don't believe the guy knew the first thing about him except that he is pretty. And that blue eye would have been the first thing he'd mention. I'm glad you called the sheriff! Hope all is well with you and your pup kids! Jo and Stella

  23. I'm so glad you feel safe about Charlie now. It sounds as if the deputy took you seriously and gave some good advice. I know how vulnerable that guy must have made you feel so I'm glad that Charlie will be at home for a while.

There seems to be a rash of dogs being stolen from vehicles around here so I'm getting a little scared about leaving my dogs, even when it's nice and cool :(
