My day off work is spent catching up. It included the holistic vet coming and seeing Gus. We're both happy with how he's doing. He's been with us for just shy of 10 months now, a milestone considering there were some who never thought we'd see one month. I've decided that each day with Gus is a milestone, and we're grateful for these "days of grace" with him. Despite eating twice as much as the other dogs, Gus is noticeably thinner than he has ever been because of the loss of muscle mass. He has increasingly more difficulty getting around than before, and needs us to help him more. A symptom that the degenerative myleopathy (DM) is progressing. But Gus keeps trying and there is no doubt he's just as happy as he was the first day he came to us. That's all that matters.
sweet boy.

ReplyDeleteIt's been 3 months since Kyla crossed. Damn, we miss her. It's tough but we gave her the best life she could have wanted as a product of a Mexcian puppy mill. We're not God-we do our best.
ReplyDeleteHappiness and enjoying what's happening around him...is all that matters.

DM is so heart wrenching but we do what we can. We miss our Betty so very much but are thankful that we could offer her every possible comfort in the time she was with us. Gus will let you know when it is time, our thoughts and prayers go to you and sweet Gus.
ReplyDeleteHang in there Gus! We're dealing with a rather uncooperative, arthritic old dog, Miss Morgan. She needs some help but fights it. She wants to do everything herself. These are the time I wish we could talk to each other.

Sweet Gus. He does look happy, and I agree that's "all that matters"!
ReplyDeleteGus may be losing muscle mass but he's still a handsome as a Prince.
ReplyDeleteThose male Goldens have an indomitable "life spirit". I am always amazed at how they approach life....fearless, happy and loving. Every day Gus is with us is proof that he had more work to do.....with GP. Yes, a bottomless well of love.
ReplyDeleteBless you for taking such good care of him Kim. DM is just a heartbreaking disease and I'm so glad Gus has you in his corner.
