Home and Home

This week took me to Kentucky for a few days.  Sometimes the 11 hour drive isn't all that "environmentally friendly."
-A gas refinery on the border of Kentucky and West Virginia-
It was my youngest brother's birthday on Tuesday, so we celebrated by going out to lunch.
It was an enjoyable day that ended with my baking his favorite, chocolate brownies, to celebrate his growing older.
My visit was to also (finally) order the marker for my brother's grave who died last year.  Even though it will match the headstone of our parents, it could have been done via phone and e-mail.  However I felt that this was something that needed to be done in person.

Once again, I stayed at the Airbnb I had stayed at in the fall.  It's a lovely home and the room that is spacious and quiet is perfect for me! The homeowners, a retired dentist and his wife, are both warm and welcoming. I feel lucky to have found such a nice place to stay when I visit Kentucky.
All too soon my visit was over, and I was on my way back home to Virginia.
Carl did a great job single-parenting the dogs and the cats too.
Today, I spent time with the dogs, and caught up on things around the house.
-Jake-
I caught Todd and tried to take his picture with a spring-flowered headband for Easter.
Of course, he made it clear he would have none of that!
Sheba was a little more cooperative, but trust me, she didn't like it either.
What we do like is this great weather we've having this weekend.  I hope you're having a good weekend too!  Happy Easter!

  1. That's quite a drive all by yourself.
    Glad you made it safely.
I totally get why you needed to pick out the marker in person.

The Airbnb, so it's a room in their home? I suppose that would make you feel safer than a hotel but I'd want a room where they supplied a dog for the end of the bed!
    LOL!
Love all the photos and I'm sure your brother loved that delicious brownie!
I bought a flower band similar to yours for Blue put he ran and hid under the table! (well, as much as he can hide, which means he stuck his head under there! LOL!)
Glad you are home safe and sound.

  2. Have never tried Airbnb, but heard on the news they are really taking off in Cuba. Your poor doggies look so cute in the headband, I don't know why they wanted it off so quick. Glad you made the trip safely and got back home to your loved ones.

  5. Well, is it any wonder Todd didn't like his headband? It's a pink one - not what a macho chap needs at all!
Good to know you're safely home and all is well.
    Happy Easter.

  18. My father's gentlemans farm retirement place was in the Cumberland area of Kentucky. I miss driving that way now. Looks like you might have eaten at the Olive Garden with a tour of Italy plate. Hope you had a wonderful Easter.

  22. So, what would you be willing to give up to get rid of the refinery? Certainly, your car would be the first thing to go, then probably fresh food and vegetables, most likely anything that moves in a truck would be unavailable. Most likely, you would be limited to what you could grow on your property, electricity might not be so dependable as it is now, no trucks to fix damages when they occur. Just something to think about when you wish something away

    1. KCD, respectfully, I wasn't saying that I wanted to get rid of the refinery, only that the scenery wasn't always "environmentally friendly" during my drive as it is in other places, as another picture showed. I appreciate your comment and your reminder of a refineries "necessities." Hope you're having a good week!!
