Day 59 for Jake!

We end the weekend in a good place with our newest addition, Lady.
~Lady, checking out the view from the front porch~
Her meeting her new pack-mates one-on-one went really well.  Lady is a nice, easy going gal, that loves attention and aside from her over-interest in the cats, which we'll work on to curb, I think she's fitting in well!
Lady, "was that a cat that just went by?"
Of course, Todd is always the proverbial wild-card when meeting any new arrivals.  He was okay with Lady until a treat was (accidentally) dropped on the floor, and Lady and Todd both went for it at the same time.  She quickly learned that you don't get between a Scottie and a treat -- something I should have remembered because I'm sporting a pretty good bruise on my hand from putting my hand where it shouldn't have been.  Lesson learned for both of us!
Today also ends with a milestone.  Our foster boy Jake, as of today, is celebrating day 59 of grace.  Fifty nine days ago he left a local shelter where he'd been taken to be euthanized.
From not being able to walk to now being able to go up and down the 2 outside steps unassisted is a reason to celebrate!  We are really enjoying having Jake as part of our household. And just when I thought I knew him, I found out a couple of days ago that he can balance and catch treats that are put onto his nose.  He misses more than he catches, but it's fun to watch him try!
~Jake~

  3. I am smiling hugely for Jake. Someone must have loved him at some point to teach him that trick. I'm so glad that he has you to love him now! Every day is a gift - and his story makes that all the more obvious.

And I'm so glad that Lady is fitting in!

That photo from your previous post still lingers in my mind.
She just knew as she rode in the backseat that she was going to some place safe.
Thank god you were there for Jake and look how far he's come.
People drive me mad. The way they can just toss away a life.
Two of my own dogs were brought to the clinic to be put down and luckily I was able to talk them into letting me adopt them and now they are wonderful members of my family.
Looking at Jake's face...Omg. I am so thankful he's with you.
    XOXOXO

  11. Such good news about all your guys & girls. Especially Jake , you must feel great yourself when another day is added onto his life . When I get old and lame will you to me into your world of paradise. I just love reading about the progress of all the dogs that come to you, some sad times bring tears to my eyes, when one has to pass on. I'm such a sucker for the Labrador, lady looks just like my golden girl who we named Lady Della, She loved her comforts and thought she was Queen of our home. I have such happy memories of her & still miss her.

  12. There seems to be always more room at your "Inn". we had a very dear friend who travelled through NZ, and her phone calls went like this " Is there any room at the Inn for a night or two" and when I read your words, think of Janet . Your canine family have so much love, I think your heart is equally as roomy!!

  20. Well lets hope Todd is not in action when Jake is doing the balancing treat trick or poor Jake might be sporting a black and blue nose. I'm glad he has got these days.

  21. It seems all Jake has done is continue to improve physically and bloom into an even more wonderful dog. Reminds me a tiny bit of Sunny's circumstances of getting another chance, such heart warming good news. Sweet face boy. 2 steps by himself must make your heart swell, as well as Jake feeling so independent.
Lady can certainly breathe a sigh of relief knowing she is safe and loved. Welcome pretty girl!
