Deizel Slowly Settles In

Much needed rain over the weekend kept us inside for part of Saturday and Sunday.
Except if you're Shaggy-Todd.  He likes being out in just about any weather.
The only one bothered by the storms is Max. When I was sitting, he curled up under my feet or got into the tub when I wasn't.
Our newest addition Diezel is slowly setting in.  But it is having its challenges.  He is so comfortable and content outside and I think he'd stay out all day if we'd let him.
But inside it is the total opposite.  We've decided that Deizel has probably not lived inside for awhile and when he did, he was probably restricted to just the kitchen. Getting him to leave the kitchen is being met with a lot of resistance. Of course it goes without saying that we'll keep working at it and we'll figure it out together.
But if anyone has any advice on how to make the transition easier for Deizel, we're listening!
All of us except Max -- When he's not hiding in the tub, he's busy watching television.

  3. I hate to say it, Max, but if you're addicted to the news this year you're a sick puppy.

  4. Sorry Max, all doom and gloom wherever you live, And rain, I guess every once in a while it beckons one or the other to run outside and get muddy feet. Deizel, he looks very happy, maybe he was always kept outside.

  5. Poor Deizel, he must be so disoriented. Different smells to guide him to different areas? I'm at a loss.
I wonder what Max thinks watching the TV? The only thing my dogs notice about TV is a radar and then the go hide.
Todd is made for the weather, no matter what. :-)

  6. It does sound as though Deizel was kept out of doors, and allowed no further than the kitchen. At some stage I wonder if he's been severely punished for going into other rooms, and it's something he's never forgotten? Hopefully it's just his distress at bumping into the furniture, now that he doesn't see too well? Once he's more settled, he may follow the others inside. I can only think of tempting him with a nice treat !

  8. My sweet cat Daisy loves to watch TV. The Animal Channel is so much better than the news and keeps us all in a better mood.

I am sure with your loving care that Deizel will come around and get used to his new surroundings.

  10. ohmygosh! that adorable tv watching max! LOLOL.
maybe he's just a hillary fan! does he watch only the news? or anything that's on?
and I totally agree with coppa's girl.
I would imagine deizel was severely punished when they were 'training' him to stay in the kitchen. or really at any time he dared to leave it if he had the chance.
and now he doesn't see and is in a strange place even.
afraid to stretch his barriers. my heart goes out to him.

with your gentle love he will slowly realize he's away from that family. he's safe now and freer than he ever has been.
I use the words 'that family' with disdain.

I love the picture of the rain...
and the little all~weather scotsman todd! XOXO♥

  11. Hello, cute video of Max watching TV. I hope Deizel settles in, maybe he know the kitchen is where the food is? All the furbabies are adorable, great photos. Happy Monday, enjoy your new week ahead!

  12. How blessed is Deizel that you have him! I have two blind rescues and it took some time for both of them as they came from terrible circumstances. But now they know they are safe, have food and no stress so they are doing great! Coco, my little blind cocker would just shake so hard before and during a storm so we got her a thunder shirt. IT WORKS!! Now she comes to me to put it on her and goes on with her day! I've actually bought 3 of them in the last couple of weeks now that I KNOW they work and my dogs are much more settled during the storms. I highly recommend them!!

  17. A News Hound! Bella watches almost everything. Maybe Deizel just feels safe in the kitchen with his low vision.

  19. Boy, do I wish we could get some rain! Deizel sure is a handsome boy.
I took Phoebe to meet Sage today and they got along pretty well. Could have taken him home, but he did not stop scratching and needs to get his skin problem taken care of. They assured me that he will be there until he is adopted and I will check back in. The house Vet really needs to get to the bottom of this. Have you had dogs with dermatitis problems? If so, what worked best for you? And thanks for your sweet comment.

  22. I knew a family who never had their dog inside. I know our weather in Perth is not too bad even in winter and that dog mainly lived under their patio where he had a comfy bed. I am not sure it would have been easy to coax him into the house.
We believe a cat or dog is part of the family and should share our house with us.
Hope the problem will soon be sorted for you.

  23. Your comment on rain jogged my memory. Read an interesting article over lunch by the head of NASA's Goddard Institute on the recent storms in DC and Maryland. " We are seeing more and more rainfall in the top 10% of strength. So, when it's raining, it's raining harder and that's a consequence of the increase in the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere . Every degree of warming increases the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere by about 7% ". The article goes on to say that two glaciers which hold 39% of Greenlands water have suddenly lost 12% of their volume.

Now you know where your summer rain has come from !

  28. Maybe he thinks his other people make the rules everywhere. So if the kitchen was their rule...

Can you pick him up and take him to another room and sit and hold him? Once we learn "rules," real or not, it takes doing to undo it.

  29. Thank goodness that you took Diezel. I seem to remember that a blog called acd6pack (http://acd6pack.blogspot.com/) had several blind rescues. They haven't posted much lately but they might have ideas for you to help Diezel.

How old is Diezel? Is he up for adoption or are you a permanent home for him? Yes, he is pulling my heartstrings.

  30. I have never understood the concept of an outdoors-only dog, aside from working dogs. Why have a dog in the family if they're going to be outside all the time?

That being said, what a handsome creature he is! Labs being the way they are I suspect lots of treats might be the way to lure him past the kitchen...
