Doubt Doesn't Mean Don't

Thank-you!!  You were all so kind and supportive in your comments on my last post about keeping or not keeping Jake.  I held onto the doubt and I agonized over what to do for a couple of more days.  Then someone said to me that "doubt doesn’t always mean don’t."  With that, I knew what you'd all said was right, that Jake belongs with us.  And with us Jake will stay.

The couple could not have been more gracious and understanding. Below is part of their e-mail.
Hi Kim!
Your devotion to Jake is very apparent, so we completely trust and understand any decision you make......... Our biggest concern was the impact on Jake of separating him from you.  We've been concerned about that since learning that he's been with you for over a year.  Those concerns were elevated after seeing first hand his devotion to you.  When he raced back to you when we were on our walk with him and Honey, our hearts broke at the thought of him not spending the rest of his time (time you have given him) with you.  We talked about that a lot.  In the end, we decided that what was best for Jake was a decision we needed to leave in your hands.  If Jake is staying with you, we are absolutely thrilled!
In the coming days, we will pay Jake's adoption fee and make it official.

Thank-you all again for helping me to sort this out,
You all are truly the best!

  3. Yay!!! And I hope the nice couple are able to adopt another wonderful golden. They sound like the kind of people that are deserving of a golden.
With his little broken body, he ran back to his loving Mama.! Awww, he knows where his home is.
So happy for your permanent addition. However it really doesn't seem right that you have to pay an adoption fee.

  4. Oh Kim, what wonderful news - I'm so glad - for both of you. You have done the right thing, and Jake is with his family, where he belongs.
The couple do sound nice, and their first concerns were for Jake (and you) so I, too, hope they find a nice Golden to adopt.

  6. Oh gosh! I'd had a very busy week and not stopped in at Golden Pines, so I'd missed the Jake saga - last time I checked in you were having a much needed "battery -recharge"! There are tears in my eyes as I read of Jake showing you where Home is for him, and your little ginger too. God bless you - and them.

there is nothing i can add.
only to bask in the glow of such love here.

  18. Oh, we were sure hoping that would be your decision. I always hate seeing the older dogs at the shelter. I just know they're wondering what they did wrong to wind up there. It must damage a dog's ability to trust when they're moved around. I'm so very glad that Jake will have a loving home that he can depend on for the rest of his life.

  20. I can barely see the screen after reading the note from the potential adopters, my eyes filled with tears. They are good people. Like you, they wanted what was best for Jake... and that's what Jake is getting. I'm so glad that he can live out his life with the family that he is so devoted to (and vice versa). Happy hugs to you (and Jake).

  21. Crikey Kim ..... we missed your last post but have now caught up. Mum wept tears of joy when she heard Jake was staying with you. Your devotion and care should never be doubted by you or anyone. What you do for all in your care is wonderful and Jake will spend the rest of his life in the best possible place he could be. What a lovely, and understanding, email the couple sent to you. Sloppy whippy kisses to Jake and oh ...... what the heck ...... to you too, aye, Kim???

  26. How wonderful dog people are! Their email brought tears to my eyes. To understand so well the needs of the dog and put the dog's need over one's own desire is indeed a treasure to witness. God bless them and you dear Kim. I would say God bless Jake too, but then He has already blessed Jake by finding him such a wonderful home hasn't He?
