Life Continues at Golden Pines

It has been just over a week since Georgie left us, and Monday will of course mark a week since we said good-bye to sweet Millie.  While this heartbroken soul is still trying to make sense of it all, I want to express my sincerest gratitude to you all. It has not been easy.  But your kind words have comforted me, and have helped ease the ache of the two losses that came much too soon and much too close together.  But I know that I am better for having had Millie and Georgie in our lives.

But like it or not, and ready or not, life continued on last week.  It was back to work on Tuesday which meant sitting in commuter traffic.
For Todd, it's back to barking at what's on the other side of the fence.
For Rhett and the others, yesterday it meant hanging out....
with the girl that comes to our house and trims their nails for me. They really love her and especially love the treats she showers on them.

Aside from work, I've got a lot of holiday catching up to do. No cards have been written, not a single package mailed, and I've not even made reservations for dinner for Christmas Eve. However, after a little shopping yesterday, I'm feeling a little Christmas mojo which is just what I need.

  1. Losing two so close together is heart breaking.Life does continue, when all we want it to do is stop right there. Some years ago, we said goodbye to Hugh's Dad, 2 weeks later son-in-law's Mum and the same night Hugh's aunt. and another more distant relative. For Georgie and Millie, I am sure they had the same love and care we gave to Hugh's Dad as he bravely faced his life coming to an end. The others will gather round you and show they love and care so much.

  3. I adore Rhett more every time I see his sparkling eyes. I hope that he's helping your heart through this hard time. I cannot imagine how heart-wrenching some parts of your older dog rescue efforts must be. I admire you immensely.

I had to smile at the girl doing the dogs nails. First, that's a lot of nails! Second, I had no idea that someone could get paid for it. It's a specialty of mine :) Shyla has the fastest growing nails west of the Mississippi, and I have to clip them every 10 days or so!

I'm glad that you're getting the Christmas spirit. And thank you for all that you do to help those "forgotten" dogs who need you so much.

  5. I can't tell you how many times you have crossed my mind this week. Humans and animals alike were not created to die. so it always tears at our hearts when it happens. I am so sorry for your pain. What a huge heart you have that does not go unnoticed by our creator.
Those sweet faces, with their beautiful soulful eyes. They reflected your love that you showered on them.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful pictures. Amazing how heartwarming it is just to see some of your pups resting so peacefully.

  6. George and Millie, too, were so much better for having you in their lives, Kim, and especially for their final days. You gave them such contentment and happiness - they knew they were loved so much.
I laughed too at the nail clipping, and the lovely photo of Rhett - what a happy chap !

you are doing important work. and I don't mean the commuter job. it helps pay the bills for the job that is YOU. the you that has the grandest heart. the one who sees beauty in old faces. the one who sees life in what others have thrown away.
and then of course there is todd! incorrigible loveable todd. his picture with the Christmas tree is always magical.

  14. No sign of Christmas here, yet....except a few RECEIVED cards. We don't post them much any more. Going to friends for the big day, so don't need decorations. But will make little presents today. Glad things are settling down for you....though don't envy you that traffic!
