Ginger Arrives at Golden Pines

This was a post on the Facebook page for Lab Rescue.
"A Lab Rescue volunteer told her husband that she wants all the senior dogs adopted for Christmas. So, he decided to pledge on her behalf to cover the adoption fees for all of the dogs age 9 and older from now until the end of the year."
What a generous donation to the rescue! It has of course, created a lot of buzz. And for our foster girl, Nina, there ended up being no shortage of interest in her. By Thursday I had 4 phone calls, and by the end of the week, Nina had met her perfect match! Joanne is retired, recently widowed, and she lost her previous Lab about 6 months ago. I liked her right away. She is compassionate, and caring and she and Nina are perfect for one another.
~Joanne and Nina~
Joanne loves senior dogs. She cried when she met Nina and felt a connection to her instantly. I have no doubt that they should be together.
~Nina all settled into her new home on her new bed!~

You know our dog beds never get cold. So, our year is ending with the arrival of Ginger at Golden Pines! Ginger will turn that respectable age of 13 in May. She was given up by her owner who simply no longer wanted her. He even threatened to take Ginger to a shelter (or worse) if Lab Rescue didn't accept her.
~In my van for the ride home~
Ginger was so happy to be out of boarding, and was anxious to get into my van to start the next chapter in her life. Her tail has not stopped wagging! Intros that are always taken really slow have gone well. Our dogs like Ginger just fine!
~Checking out the new girl~
Ginger is a typical Lab. Easy going, happy, and eager to be friends. If we're having any problems, it's that Ginger is constantly pacing and panting and won't settle down inside. Given that her world has been totally turned upside down, it's understandable. I know when she realizes that she's going to be okay, and finds her place she'll be just fine.

Welcome to Golden Pines, Ginger!

  3. So glad Ginger found you. Hopefully she will settle with time. Is it possible she was an outdoor dog and is uncomfortable being inside?? Just curious.

Hope you have a wonderful end and beginning to the year. God bless.

  14. Oh Kim.... all I can say is God bless you!!! Imagine... 13 years old and not being wanted anymore?! Well, all I can say is GOOD RIDDANCE of that former owner! Granddog "Ginger" was at our house on Christmas Day... she's a 10yo boxer that our daughter & family rescued. She was tied to a tree in a park and left there... at 9 years old. They've had her a year already and she lives the life of luxury, as she most assuredly deserves. These poor senior dogs... they must wonder what they did to be abandoned like that. Well, as the old saying goes... one man's trash is another man's treasure. Indeed! Happy New Year, dear friend. Love always, Andrea xoxo

  15. What a generous man to help more seniors find homes. If there are other dogs in our lives (we haven't decided yet as at retirement in 11 years and 1 day as we will have freedom 55 we plan on traveling a lot for a few years anyway) they will be senior dogs. I can't imagine just not wanting my dogs anymore - Ginger deserves better!

  16. Happy New Year Ginger. Our local shelter has deals like that from time to time. They waive the fees on older dogs or for veterans who want to adopt or for large dogs or for black dogs, etc.

  23. I am so GLAD that Joanne and Nina found each other. They do sound absolutely perfect for each other. I smiled as I read about that.

Poor Ginger. Please work your magic with her to try to soothe her broken heart. I think that she'll figure out very quickly that she's met a human who will love her unconditionally. Thanks for saving her.

  25. Joanne is a lucky, lucky lady! I'll miss seeing darling Nina here at Golden Pines but what a perfect match. All the best to you, dear girl. And that goes for Ginger, too who is now on the right track to a happy home. What a grand donation made on behalf of Lab Rescue! Stephanie Jo in Northern California

  26. Oh my... I did dog rescue for over 42 years. Mostly the herding breeds esp Rotts and Aussies. Saving one at a time, accessing temperament and getting them back to health, doing full obedience work with each of them and then searching for a forever home for them with a 5 page contract on each adoption. I spent life savings on saving the unloved, abandoned and dumped dogs. I finally had to downsize my home and land and moved to a tiny farmhouse in the Appalachian mountains. Everyone who adopted a dog from me continues to keep in touch. I thank you for what you do and I know how mush money it costs and how much work it is. Bless you for your dedication to these sweet kids in fur. Blessings.

  27. Just a tip to help Ginger. Look on Youtube on how to apply a ace bandage in a wrap to calm and help her settle in. Search for TTOUCH CALMING WRAP and once you see how this works you will be a fan. One of my best tips out of 42 years of rescue work. Blessings.
