The Redskins and a Road Trip

The week is winding down with my brother Jeff. We've done everything, seen everything, and eaten everything...So much for that diet! Today we attended the opening day of "training camp" for our favorite (professional) football team, the Washington Redskins! It's always fun to see the players and watch all that testosterone in action!

Carl and I always enjoy Jeff's visits, but it's time for him to return to his life in Kentucky. Charlie, Rudi, Sheba and I will be driving him back home on Saturday. Which also means I'll be taking a break from blogging for a few days. My brother Jeff and another brother John live in the home that was owned by my parents. While they do have a computer, it is an older one that is on a "dial-up" internet connection that is very, very slow and it takes what feels like forever just to look at e-mails. How did we ever manage before high-speed internet?

I really do appreciate your stopping by my blog and I will look forward to catching up with you and your blogs sometime next week! Take care!

  1. We have one of those - a brother in Thailand. I really hoped he would come to our mother's 80th but he couldn't so I suppose he will "see" her at her funeral one day sadly - too late. At least he is in touch again having told me " you will never hear from me again "

I really hope your visit goes well xx

  6. I hope that your lunch with your sister goes well. It's so sad when a member of the family lets a rift grow between them. It happened in my Mother's family and, by the time my Aunt wanted to heal the rift, my Mom was senile and didn't know her.

    Have a safe trip.

  7. I hope all goes well with your travels and your family. I am an only child so can only imagine the tension between siblings. But I can tell you that when my father was ill and dying, I wished for a sibling to share it with. Luckily, I have a very sweet husband who took it upon himself to fill that role.

  9. I am glad you are having such a great time with your brother! I'll bet he has fallen in love with all the dogs!

The meeting with your sister, one can only hope that it goes well, if it doesn't - you are on neutral ground and can get up and leave. I only wish that the two of you were as close as I was with my sister. Of course, I can't abide my baby brother, so, I know where you are...

Have a safe trip! Enjoy the memories of your Mother's kitchen!

  16. Kim,
Wow the Redskins you are one lucky girl. I love American Football and have a few favorite teams, Oakland is my all time favorite but never seems to do well. We also have football pools at work and I'm the only women involved. Sad really it's such a great sport.
I really do hope that you and your Sister can mend some fences, live is too short. I hope you also have a relaxing time and find some wonderful treasures while going through your Mom's belongings.I found the best treasure was my Grandmothers cookbook with all sorts of family items along with great recipes all hand written.
Can't wait till you get back!

  21. Hi Kim
I hope your visit to the homestead remains calm.
I can imagine the emotions of ans all the memories hit you in the face as you drive up to the house.
Memories ,.maybe some good, some bad of how it used to be long ago.
Going through your moms things like the cook books, can pull on your heart too.
Things happen when family dies. I went through some problems too when my mom died.
I hope things turn out okay for you, and that everything stays calm. We are thinking of you
