Quiet on the Home-Front

I really want to thank everyone for your kind thoughts and support as we navigate the maze of trying to purchase additional property and in doing what we can for Hamlet.
Despite the appearance of the "for sale" sign today announcing the availability of the property around us, I'm going to try and be optimistic rather than pessimistic.
I think Charlie tried to be optimistic when I accidentally locked him out on the front porch this morning.
Hamlet did seem a little better today, although he's sleeping quite a bit. He did want to go out with us this afternoon, but opted to sit in the garage while the other dogs played frisbee.
Overall, it was a nice quiet day.
I hope your day was an enjoyable one too!

  1. Kim,
I thought for a minute there that you had put your house up for sale.
Sending huge Karma waves your way. I just know it will work out for you.
Be patient because even though there is going to be house lots not everyone is going to jump at this right away. Christmas is not the best time to be purchasing land for a building lot. Time may be on your side because they may never sell even after all the excavation work is done. Have seen many a builder go under because the market just wasn't ready. You may cash in big time if this happens.
    And I'm hoping this happens.
Yes I guess I'm bad to the bone!

  6. Sitting in the garage can be just as good as fetching frisbees. Charlie looks pretty happy go lucky. I'm thinking the lock-out didn't phase him a bit. Here's wishing you all a great week ahead.

  7. You are so great to be so positive about the land situ - love the pix of doggehs playing frisbee! Today, with the WW Moment, I understood (for the most part) how seeing the dogs play in their concept of time caused them to be tired, happy and... well... hungry! Your attitude is right on.

  8. It looks like it was a beautiful day there! It was cold and rainy here. Perfect weather to stay in and get stuff done.

I'm thinking you should tie ALL the dogs to the "For Sale" sign post ~ just for a few days...

  10. sending you big hugs from me, with the hopes things will improve for Hamlet and that no one will want to buy the land around you.....

Did the vet or the surgeon say how long Hamlet has got to live?

  13. Lovely pictures Kim!

Hang in there on the house lots for sale... I know your pain, and hate the feeling when development encroaches on our space...

My pond house, the one I currently have for sale, is on 5 acres, and I bought the 2 1/2 lot next door to ensure nobody built there... and still, on the other side of the headwaters of the pond, they started a new subdivision with 140 houses to be built... While they have no access legally to the private pond, the reality is quite different... So I am moving on.

Hope your situation works out positively!

  15. Hi Kim,
Sometimes I think it's better to read these posts when I'm NOT at work since they have been known to make me cry and after reading yours, I'm on the verge it right now. SO sorry to hear about Hamlet. As for the property, I know how you feel. For years the property across the street has sat vacant (which I loved) until the owner's daughter (who inherited the land when her mother passed) decided to sell it. A builder bought the land, built a house and it's still sitting vacant. I wanted to be able to purchase the land so we wouldn't have anyone across from us, but just could not swing it financially. I'm PRAYING that we get neighbors that can at least tolerate. I'm sure you will keep us posted as this situation develops.

  17. Buy some of it if you can Kim. May save a lot of headaches.
Hamlet is tired. He knows what he can and can;t do. Smarter than a lot of people I know. Have a great week.

  20. We are still crossing our fingers that things work out with the land. Maybe you will get nice neighbors, who don't believe in fences and rescue Golden Retrievers... That would be okay, wouldn't it?

  24. Hi Kim, I'm so sorry to hear about your Hamlet.. I know it is just breaking your heart ---but you have done all that you can do. Just keep him pain-free and happy... (Easier said than done.)

Sorry also about the lots being sold around you. When we bought our retirement home here, the ONE thing I wanted was privacy in the backyard.... We looked at several areas --many were wooded lots (which 'may' be sold later)... We said NO ---and ended up buying a house on the golf course (quite a distance away from the fairway) ---so we did get our privacy--sorta!!!! ha

Can you put up a HUGE fence????
    Hugs,
    Betsy
