Good and Bad Friday

Every time the dogs have had the chance, they have checked under Carl's car.  We've no idea what it was and continues to be so intriguing to them. We have another ground-hog that lives on the other side of our driveway and last year it managed to wedge itself into the engine of the car.  I'm wondering if it didn't find another place to hide when surprised by the dogs.
The work week ended uneventfully and I got out of the office on time.  With cold rainy weather, I just wanted to get home. A good thing since Bubba has had 2 seizures this evening.  I looked at the clock when they started and noted that they lasted 3 and 5 minutes.  When Bubba has a seizure to keep him from injuring himself, especially if he is on the wood floor, I place a folded towel under his head to cushion his thrashing and catch the drool.  He also loses control of his bladder and so I put a towel on top of him because I don't want the floor to be slippery when he tries to stand.  If there's a lot of noise or light I'll turn down the lights and turn off any music or the television.  While he is still lying there I pet and talk to him and reassure him (and me!) that everything is 'okay.'  I think it might help to give him something to focus on.  Of course I hope he doesn't have any more, he's exhausted.  Thankfully Bubba always sleeps on the floor on my side of the bed and I'll hopefully know if he does.  It may be a long night...

  1. MMM I'm very curious to know what's under that car too. There must be something that smells good hiding under there.

  2. Oh Bubba, I am so sad. It's breaking my heart. Thank you Kim for taking such good care of him. Man, that's tough for an older boy to go through. Our paws are crossed and praying this Good Friday that Bubba has no more quakes.

  3. I'm hoping that Bubba had a seizure free night - it's hard to get any rest when they are sick.

  8. Hope that groundhog doesn't fall out on the road if he has crawled up into the engine or such. Funny how the dogs all know he's there.
Poor Bubba. I know how you feel. My Scoobie has them too but they last just a few seconds thankfully. Hope you have a restful night!
    Happy Easter!

  11. I always try to figure how what sets off Simba`s,the cat`s, seizures, they are very frightenning. But he only has them once in awhile,I`m thankful for that.I believe it has something to do with his ears.Noise & dogs & parrots barking makes him uneasy.Hope your Bubba`s seizures don`t last long & keep getting fewer, phyllis

  14. I don't know if this is true or not, but when Cisco started having seizures our vet said to keep everything quiet and low key and don't touch her. She said that during the seizures they are hyper-aware of everything, and by petting her I am only making this worse. I've since read it on several websites. I would sit quietly next to her, and when I noticed she was coming out of the seizure, I would then start petting her. Maybe someone else can weigh in on this? I've always wondered how true it was.

  15. Dear sweet Bubba, I will keep him in my prayers! It is so hard to see one of our beloved family members going through something they don't understand and I do believe that reassuring them with our touch and voice is the best medicine.
I wish you Kim and your sweet family the most blessed and joyful Easter!

  17. Oh Kim, I'm so sorry for Bubba. Teaching children with special needs I've had my share of students who have experienced seizures and it's frightening as well as cruel to the once going through it as well as those around!
I will be thinking of Bubba and you...
    Happy Easter!
...maybe your dogs are looking for their Easter baskets?

  19. You are soincredibly loving - what lucky dogs to haveyou.
Our cat went to sleep in a neighbour's car engine. When she went to start the car, he got stuck under the fan belt & had to be cut out. He was very cut & injured but survived the ordeal ..... as did my neighbour !!!

    Happy Easter xx

  20. I was thinking a cat might be hiding under the car.

We're only had one experience with a seizure, when Bentley was old. It was a scary experience for everyone. I'd prefer not to go thru it again, but give the big old boy our love.

  22. Hey Kim! Checking on ya!
Poor Bubba. You are a strong woman. I fell apart when i had to witness our MoJo's seizures the week before she died...I just HATE to see an animal in any kind of distress. I hope he feels better.

  23. So sorry for Bubba. I had a boxer that had seizures for the last year of his life, it is painful to watch.

Hope you figure out what is so iteresting under the car, something sure is.

  24. Poor Bubba. Thank goodness he has you and that you are so understanding. My last dear dog, Pepper Daisy, suffered with seizures in her later years and I remember how distressing it is to watch, and how useless I always felt.

Give Bubba a kiss from me. Oh, you'd better give all the others a kiss too!

    xx

  30. Oh, poor Bubba! You sound calm and matter-of-fact, but I'm sure it must be worrying. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you both get a good night's sleep. (And what the heck's under that car?!!)
