The owner told me to come this morning around 9 o'clock. I did just that, and ended up waking them. Its been a long time since I dealt with an owner first hand and I've forgotten just how cut and dry these things can be. They came to the door with Jasmine in hand, signed the paperwork, gave me practically nothing for her, and I was gone in less than 5 minutes. I always wonder how you can have a dog for so many years and give them up so quickly and easily and without a single item that belongs to them that you'd like them to have in their new home. But I suppose that I should have remembered to consider their reasons for giving Jasmine up, which ranged from the owner having a skin problem, to not being to take her with them to their new apartment.
Regardless of the reason, Jasmine is a very sweet, small and petite Golden, weighing less than 50 pounds. She's had several litters of puppies, and I think has problems seeing outside because she has stumbled on our steps each time she has been out. Meeting our gang was uneventful. Todd was very attentive to Jasmine, no doubt hoping he had another playmate--I think our cat CC probably hoped for the same thing.
Looks like CC will just have to keep hoping..
THANK YOU as always for stopping by my blog, I hope you're enjoying your Sunday!
To give up a companion of 12 years so easily ? I'd really like to think they were hiding their emotions from you.
ReplyDeleteJasmine is going to love life at Golden Pines. Lucky girl.
ReplyDeleteI could rattle that owner until her teeth fell out!
ReplyDeletelove todd's proper scottie haircut
Hi there, How lucky Jasmine is; I can only hope that her owner was inwardly so sad that she just wanted to parting to be quick and easy...it made me almost cry reading about it. What a beautiful girl and I know that she will be the best of friends with your whole pack. Sending lots of love your way.
ReplyDeleteNoreen & Reggie
Wow, isn't that very small for a Golden? I can't understand just handing over a long time family member without a tearful goodbye. I guess I'll never understand humans.
ReplyDeleteShe looks like a nice girl and I'm glad she's safe now.
Tsar always stumbled on the front steps and it turned out to be his arthritis.
While I think it's ok to ponder the significance (or, lackthereof) of the owner's ability to just relinquish the dog in less than five minutes, what maybe most important is the fact that you have her, and she is home. For good.
ReplyDeleteI have a difficult time steeling myself against bringing home any dog that even looks neglected, but having made that mistake three years ago (this month) by bringing home a dog infected by parvo, thus murdering my ONE pup that had not had his vax yet...I will strongly consider all angles in the future of rescuing.
Now that the above run-on sentence is over....you have my applause, admiration and respect for what you do and how you do it.
God Bless you and the gang.
I'm sure Jasmine is very happy to be with her new friends! ;-)
ReplyDeleteJasmine looks like a sweet little girl! Good size to pal around with Todd! Todd is doing the pounce front feet thing, to CC, isn't he?
ReplyDeleteGlad she is melting into the pot!
I probably would have wanted it to be quick, too. Because I would have bawled my eyes out.
ReplyDeleteShe has a good (interim?) home now though.
Happy Sunday to you, all, too! :)
We're so glad Jasmine is in safe hands and can live out her life in peaceful retirement.
ReplyDeleteXXXOOO Daisy, Kendra & Bella
Get that cat, Todd.
Having picked up many dogs, we too are saddened by the casual attitude of many towards their friends of many years. They move on without looking back, leaving a confused and sad dog behind. The dog did not do anything wrong, but suddenly finds herself unwanted. 12 years, without a tear.
ReplyDeleteWe are so happy to help you welcome her to your home. She will be a valued member of your home instead of a burden. Thanks for all you do to help the unloved and unwanted.

Oh I could just cry, but smile when I think about people like you out there! She is a lucky girl!
ReplyDeleteWelcome, Jasmine!! You are going to enjoy living life as a spoiled pooch at Golden Pines!!!
ReplyDeleteAROOOF!
Boondocks & The Love Shack Pack
Its with great trepidation that doing my blog catch-up I find you have a new dog, because a new dog usually means an empty bed. So sad to see Reggie is no longer with you, but so happy that it means Jasmine could be saved! You must live with these highs and lows every day...
ReplyDeleteGood ol' Todd..making a new friend safe and sound...sweet!
ReplyDeletemethinks jasmine might have been a puppy mill for that group? a neighbor of mine claimed he didn't do it for the money, but the two dogs he had (a male and a female) made him 200.00 per puppy, usually 7 puppies at a time, while he lived next door. i was about ready to turn him in when he came and told me he was moving. he asked if i wanted the little female. i asked him to spay her first, since i was at that time so short on funds... he took her and found out (to his surprise?) that she was pregnant again. and of course he kept her. and he moved away.
ReplyDeletei'm glad jasmine is with you. she now has a chance at some happiness.
love,
tammy j
What a sweety Jasmne is !!..i hope you will have a great time together at the farm...love from me...xxx..
ReplyDeleteJasmine is beautiful, and very lucky :-)
ReplyDeleteshe is a tiny thing, isn't she? glad she's fitting in already!
ReplyDeleteJasmine is going to love her new home and friends. So much TLC...
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who has had two Scotties for years and just learned that she took them to a Scottish Terrier Rescue in another city. I was shocked! No matter the reason I couldn't just give my two sweeties away. They are a part of my life and my heart would break to not see them again. For Jasmine, her life is just beginning.
ReplyDeleteWelcome, Jasmine!
ReplyDeleteSam
Lucky Jasmine to come to you . . .
ReplyDeleteWoof! Woof! Oh KIM ... Lots of Golden LOVE at the Pines this weekend. Jasmine is very lucky to be with you. LOVE her name. Can't imagine someone will put an ad on CL, just horrible. Lots of Golden LOVE n Woofs, Sugar
ReplyDeleteHow lucky Jasmine is to come stay with you and your gang. I don't understand it either how people cannot be on their knees with their arms around that animals neck crying because it's just not working out. It makes me so sad for that sweet Jasmine. But...things are on the sunny side of life for her now.
ReplyDeleteKim, Jasmine is a sweetheart and so very fortunate to have you as a Mom.
ReplyDeleteWe are so happy for her anbd you and look forward to you telling us of her adventures.
I'm glad little Jasmine is away from those heartless people. Strange that the owner would be wary of giving her to a rescue. Wonder if there is some unfortunate things in her past that the owner feared might be disclosed? She is one lucky dog to have found a place with you and the pack.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim... Oh, how I loved seeing Charlie's sweet face!!
ReplyDeleteJasmine is a sweetie. I agree with you Kim, for the life of me, I can't understand how someone can just give a dog away so easily after having it as a part of the family for so long. Gary and I have talked about 'what if' our business would go belly up (which it's not.. but just playing the what if game) and we'd lose everything? What would we do? Apartment? My answer of course was, I would not go anywhere without Gracie.
I can't wait to hear more about the beautiful Jasmine..
Welcome Home Sweet Jasmine!
ReplyDeleteYou are going to be so loved.
I know right now

Lucky Jasmine! I am as puzzled as everyone else about how easily her previous owners let her go. Sometimes I think there should be an exam people have to take before they're allowed to have a pet - maybe just an x-ray, to make sure they have a heart...
ReplyDeleteWell, Jasmine was one lucky girl!
ReplyDeleteYou all are the best! Jasmine has a great place and so many new pals! What a treasure.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting our site, wish we could pop over for a real visit!
Sweet hugs,
Sierra Rose
Welcome Jasmine! So glad you have taken her in. Never understand how someone can just hand over their dog!
ReplyDeleteThey look happy and they spend a lots of fun while playing on the park! Yes we did really enjoy our sunday!

Poor Jasmine, she probably was used for breeding and now that she is older decided to give her away. It's for the best, now Jasmine will experience having a real home.
ReplyDeleteJasmine will love it at your house. She is adorable!! BTW, my real name is Jasmine too!!
ReplyDeleteWELCOME Jasmine!!

Jazzi and Addy
We are just thrilled that Jasmine has a new beginning!
ReplyDeleteLove ya lots
Maggie and Mitch
So Todd has another Jazzi - hope she doesn't beat him up like his sister did!! I'm so glad you have her.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Tammy who said she might have been a puppy mill dog. I think that is how they get rid of their dogs when they feel they are of no use to them any longer.
Love the picture of Todd and CC - that's a classic!!

WELCOME Jasmine :) I am so glad that she found her way into your home. I know she will be loved. My Mabel is a petite little girl too. She was just at the vet and they weighed her at 51 lbs. Jasmine looks so very sweet hard for me to understand how she could have been given up so easily. Oh well she has a GREAT home now :)

Mimi
Welcome to your wonderful new life Jasmine! I suspect you have earned a break and some time with people who will love you just for being you!
ReplyDeleteKim, you AMAZE me!
Oh Kim you are just so awesome and I admire you greatly!
ReplyDeleteYou mus have an amazing character to be able to go into those situations and face them with so much courage and calm. I know I couldn't do it, but thank God you can and do for the sake of wonderful girls such as Jasmine!
As always you and yours are always in my prayers and always will be. Have a lovely holiday!

Well sweet Jasmine, your Guardian Angel was looking out for you, for sure! Welcome to Golden Pines, you lucky girl!

as i often do.. i read and re-read your wonderful posts and comments and in my earlier comment was so put out by the former "owners" (cannnot call them family) of little jasmine that i clean forgot the picture of our beloved laughing charlie! is he not a total winner? you go charlie!
ReplyDeleteanother member of your harem!
love,
tammy j
A happy ending for little Jasmine. So glad you rescued her! Do you know that children in foster care are treated no differently? They are yanked from foster home to foster home and get to take nothing with them. I had a little student who was picked up at school! No warning! But she knew what was up when she heard the intercom tell me to get her ready to leave. The look on her face told me that she had done this before. My heart broke into a million pieces and I have never forgotten it after all these years.
ReplyDeleteYou are an angel. Jasmine is so lucky to have found love at last!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for the update on Riley. Please keep us posted. I feel like we know all your pups. :)
Whatever the circumstances I cannot understand how anyone could show such a lack of emotion when handing over their friend.
ReplyDeleteJasmine has such a sweet face and looks so happy with little Todd.
xx
Thinking of all the dogs and cats in the world who are abandoned or not cared about makes me want to cry. Thank goodness she has found you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweetie! Welcome, Jasmine, to the blogosphere!!
ReplyDeleteI think that you and your husband are doggy heroes. You've saved and helped so many Goldens. I feel humbled each time I visit your blog.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness that you found Jasmine and saved her.
That is so sad that someone could give her up after 12 years and so very callously. Thank God she found you and your crew Kim, now she will have the life she deserves.
ReplyDeleteI agree with KB, I am humbled every time I visit your blog. You really are amazing.
Jasmine isn't much bigger than Todd, is she? I don't understand people sometimes....
ReplyDeleteWelcome home sweet Jasmine!
ReplyDeleteWe'll never understand why people are the way they are - but thank God for folks like Kim.
Extra licks & woofs

Welcome aboard Jasmine! You are one fortunate dog....but I'm sure you have 'realized' that by now! Sit back, play and enjoy!
ReplyDeletePeople never stop shocking me. Im so glad that Jasmine can now be with yall and enjoy the good life. You my friend are a special soul. She is little and very sweet golden.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the gang Jasmine! I hope she's very happy with you all :o)
ReplyDeleteBless you for giving Jasmine a home. I think whoever said that Jasmine was probably a puppy mill breeding dog was right. That would explain the owner's lack of emotion and hesitation about a rescue (rescue people obviously would not approve of a puppy mill), as well as the dog's lack of personal possessions and the many pregnancies. So---Jasmine had no family. You are probably her first. So glad she came to you!
ReplyDeleteJasmine is one lucky little lady. Thank you for finding room in your home for her.
