Another Non Weather Event

Ahead of what was to be a snow and ice storm, all of the errands and shopping were done on Friday so the day could be spent at home.  As I should have predicted, the event which the weathermen had touted beforehand as 'possibly significant' did not occur.
With temperatures hovering around freezing and slick roads we didn't want to venture out and have just spent a very quiet day at home.  Todd has eaten and played in what little bit of snow we did get.
Each day we learn something new about Lucas.  Look closely at the below picture, and the awkwardness of what is his favorite sleeping position.
We've also learned that he must have had a career harassing cats.  His continued interest in our cat CC goes well past curiosity and is more like stalking.  Even though I don't think he would (or could) hurt her, we keep an eye on him, and she does too.
A belated Christmas gift arrived from Carl on Friday, which was a new camera!  While I really love the one I have been using, I have to admit that the new one, which is my first 'DSLR' is going to be fun to learn to use. However, the lens it came with doesn't have the 'zoom' that my old one has.  So until I can save up enough pennies or sell a kidney (or both) to buy one, I'll be using them both

The pictures above were taken with my 'old camera.' The ones below are straight out of the new camera with no editing.  So far I like the crisper close up pictures when the lighting isn't that good.  I think the pictures and my biscuits turned out pretty good--I'll just add that I make them just like my Mom used too!

The new camera is going to take some getting used too. But I have plenty of time, and plenty of things to take pictures of.
~Todd~
I hope you're having a good weekend!!
~Charlie~

  1. How does Lucus lay like that?! I think we might have gotten your snow. First rain in the early morning and then snow non stop and is still coming down.

  3. Well, I like the work you do with both cameras. After we went to the dunkiing in the ice lake today, we just sat around all afternoon too. It was great.....

  4. Lucas looks like a sweetheart!

Boy are you going to have fun with that new camera. Such clarity.

  5. Yummy biscuits! Not for the first time, we wish there were a way to just reach through the screen and grab some.

We're more interested in WHY Lucas lies that way. Does his neck or shoulder hurt? It's not like he's resting his head on his arm, as it's not the downside paw he's hooking behind his ear.

Abby senses a kindred spirit with a strong prey drive. Even for an old guy, you may find he can move pretty fast when he decides it's time. CC, stay up really, really high or in a dog-proof room.

  6. I wonder if it "feels" better to have his leg up like that....?

Have fun getting used to your camera!

  7. My first reaction to the photo of Lucas was: "Is that really his paw above his head?"! What sweet dog.

I have had a DSLR for about a year now... and there was a steep learning curve. In fact, I'm still learning. But, the photos from my point-and-shoot no longer make me happy. The dSLR has spoiled me! I hope that the same is true for you.

  8. The biscuits look delicious and the animals are all beautiful in their individual ways. Our male dog is half Golden. He likes to sleep with his top paw across his face as if he's covering his eye. I think it's sweet.

    Lucas looks better already:-)

    Enjoy that camera!

  9. At about 4am we had just enough snow on the ground for me take the big boys out to play. My new neighbors probably think I am a little loopy out there so early playing with the dogs. Got to get in some fun anytime we can. By 7am it was all ice.
I love how Lucas sleeps...so cute. Looks like Todd liked the snow.

  10. Too bad Lucas cannot tell us why he sleeps like that!
Your biscuits look so good, and of course right now- I am wanting one!
Your new camera is awsome, but of course I thought your old one was.
You will have fun learning with all those subjects you have at Golden Pines- maybe even some snow.
I think CC will keep one eye on Lucas just in case.

  13. We had a similar weekend! Most of the snow that was supposed to bury us went to the north and hit Chicago instead. I can't complain!

I love my DSLR! I'm still learning with it, but having a great time!

  16. Kendra always slept in awkward positions and in strange places.

We think Lucas has the right idea about cats. We're fascinated with them as well.

  22. Nice shots! I see the crisper 'new' ones....you will have a ball with what you can do now Kim with the DSLR. Yes, take your time and in no time you will go totally manual!!

I am still trying to bake biscuits 'just like Mom's' but to no avail. I think I 'work' them too much. But I will try again, and again, and....Your's look great!

  23. i once had a dry socket, from an extracted tooth. i have never known such pain in my entire life. i just wanted to be shot.
i wonder if all the infections in his mouth surely have made his whole head hurt. maybe that's his way of holding it to try to make it feel better? we'll never know i guess. just so glad that at the end of this month the surgery will make it all just a bad dream.
like the women who can make a burlap bag look good on her ... i'm thinking any camera you use will make gorgeous pictures. it's you dear heart, not the equipment!!!
love and hugs and beautiful biscuits,

  25. Hi Kim :)
I love the pictures taken with your new camera. I have been wishing for a new one myself. Maybe someday :) We finally did get some snow here in Pittsburgh. Not a ton ---about 5-6 inches but they were only calling for maybe 2-4. Thankfully it came on a Satuarday and we didn't have to go anywhere. Enjoy the rest of the weekend--have fun playing with your new toy :)
    xoxo

  31. Isn't it fun to get a new camera and play with it. I am looking into getting a new camera but have no idea which one to get. I am still searching for the one that I would need for the pictures I take.
Lucas seems like he is comfortable in that position. He has such a sweet face. Love the picture where he is watching the cat.
