Along with trying to solve the issues with my blog's reading list, the week started off in high gear with Sandy and Lucas at the vet for rechecks from appointments a month ago.
Lucas loved going to the vet! This was only because the free entertainment in the waiting room was a cat that wasn't CC, and he got to bark at it. Can someone tell me why you would ignore the signs posted throughout the office to have your cat crated while waiting, not sit in the 'cat waiting area' and then get upset when a strange dog starts barking and scaring your cat? I'm afraid I just don't understand...But Lucas got a good report in that he's gained about 5 pounds and I'm hopeful that when the test results come back in a few days, that infection will be cleared up.
On the flip-side there was Sandy. At his last appointment he was diagnosed with glaucoma so we rechecked his eye pressure. Good news for him in that the medications seem to be working, making us hopeful that no other treatment will be needed for his eyes. Sandy also started thyroid medication when he was diagnosed with being hypothyroid--At his last appointment he weighed in at a portly 120 pounds. This appointment Sandy weighed in at a trimmer 99.9 pounds! Of course we're concerned we may have over corrected the problem with his thyroid, but we'll see. To me, no matter what his size, I think he's always going to remind me of a bear. Not only does Sandy make noises like one, but when he rubs along our fence, (photos below) I think he looks a bit like one too, don't you think?
Sandy is totally confident finding his way around our house and yard and I find myself forgetting that he can't see. Today marks his being with us for exactly two months. When we first met Sandy, he wouldn't take any treats from my hand, no matter how good it may have smelled to him. Now he takes everything and anything, and I find myself humbled by his trust.
I'm so, so glad that my blog issues are resolved, and I'm looking forward to enjoying my day off catching up with your news and things around the house. Enjoy your Thursday!!

ReplyDeleteAll the pups look very happy! I'm glad the medication is working for Sandy!
ReplyDeleteHooray for getting the blogger bugs fixed!

Awe, those guys are so very lucky to have you (and Todd too)! So glad their health is improving, and that there are people like you out there!
ReplyDeleteHow great that the check-ups were positve! It's nice to hear that Sandy's meds are working (fingers crossed). Glad your blog issues are resolved too. I know how frustrating that can be. Enjoy your day off! :)
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear the check up went pretty well. I agree with you about the cats in a crate, why people don't is beyond me. Enjoy the day with the pups.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Goose
Thyroid is tricky. MY medications keep having to be adjusted, but Delilah's are fine. :O That is good news on both fronts and I'm glad things seem to be on track for your crew. Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear the check ups went well. I agree with you about the cat owner. If they don't want their cat to get scared then crate them and keep them out of sight of dogs. Hope blogger keeps cooperating with you too.

Hi Kim, oh that blogger sometimes, makes me so mad!!/$$%%""&&& Glad to hear all the furbabies are doing good,so happy Sandy gained your trust, what a wonderful boy. Enjoy your Thursday, Hugs Francine.
ReplyDeleteEvery time I visit your blog, I'm just amazed at the love and care you give these blessed dogs! They are so lucky to have you. That last picture looks heavenly!
ReplyDeleteSo awesome to hear about your sweeties!Sandy lost 20 lbs! Wow! Zeke needs to lose about that much...the vet said any weight loss would help his joints too....Love your blog! Give your babies our love!
ReplyDeleteGood news all round, I'd say. I know, some people just can't read!!!
ReplyDeleteThat last photo is gorgeous, Kim!
We have our Zach on a diet after the vet saw him last week. She checked his thyroid and it was normal. I've never had a dog that metabolizes as poorly as he does. He is part Golden.
ReplyDeleteGaining the trust of an animal is pretty awesome:-) I'm so happy it's working out.
I'm glad your blog issues have been resolved too. I miss you when you don't post.
ReplyDeleteSandy and Lucus are beautiful! I'm so glad they are doing well. That is the cutest "bear" I've ever seen.
I so enjoy hearing how the animals always come around due to your love, patience and kindness.
Glad you are back to blogging, and hope that your problems with it stay away. Nice to know that Lucas is doing well, and for that matter Sandy too. Hugs to them all.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear the meds are helping ! Miggy sounds like a bear as well when she rubs here back and rolls ! Lovely photos ! Hope blogger smartens up for you ! Yes some people in the vets just drive me nuts and the thing is they are the ones that really don't seem to care much for their pets either ! Have a good day !
ReplyDeleteSo glad things are on the up swing for you all.
ReplyDeleteYes, they are so lucky to have you. They're just beautiful. Must feel good rubbing against that fence. Yes, just like a bear.
ReplyDeleteIt does sound like things are going better for you, Lucas and Sandy!
ReplyDeleteBlogger can be a pain at times, I agree.
Trust - it's such a gift, isn't it, to have our animals trust us with the safety and well-being of their bodies and hearts? I can't think of anyone who deserves that gift more than you, Kim!
ReplyDeleteI love the photos of Sandy rubbing his face on the fence... must feel good! :-)
ReplyDeleteI must admit that I am one of those cat people who brings their cat on a leash to the vet's office. I only do it with one of my four kitties, though, and he is always leashed (which my vet allows). Quite frankly, the crate upsets him so much that he poops all over himself, throws up, and has even hurt himself in it. He's a senior, so I try my best not to stress him out, which the crate does. He loves dogs (was fostered in a home with 3 great danes) and usually just sits beside me on a chair staring out the window while we're waiting. Also, I always bring a fuzzy blanket from home to swaddle him in, just in case he does get nervous, but he never really does. Maybe that's not the right thing to do, but I'm not willing to stress out my Sammie-cat with the wretched crate when he's quite content to sit and wait on a leash.
Hi Elizabeth! THANKS for your thoughts! If the cat had not been so upset, I don't think it would have been a problem--But I just couldn't quiet Lucas and the owner got upset with me, The cat waiting area is really quiet and probably would have been a better choice.
ReplyDeletereally glad BOTH pups are doing well! and hope your blog problems are gone!
ReplyDeleteI have been having trouble with my google reader for about a week. grrr
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear about the good vet reports. I don't understand why people think they might be the only ones in the waiting room at the vet. The last time I was waiting at our vet, there was a small child who was allowed to play on the scale meant for pets and then made high pitched shrieking noises...always a good thing for nervous animals to listen to.
Good news on the health stuff. We do the same thing about rubbing on the wood fence. When THEY see this , here come the ear drops cause the vet says it is ear mites.

So happy to hear that Sandy is doing better. He needed to find good parents to take care of him and he did. Thank God for you and your husband. I don'tblame you for being upset at the vets office. People don't respect rules and signs anywhere. Good for Lucas barking. I always look forward to reading your post.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great rest of the week and weekend.
I am praying that Hurricane Isaac does not hit us. The path is showing coming our way. If you can please PRAY for all of our safety.
Thank you. Ana
I'm with you on the cat thing. Although, I find myself less amazed by crazy things people do the older I get......I think I'm starting to expect it. :) That's great news about Sandy! And that Lucas is very handsome. Always love seeing his photos. Happy Thursday!
ReplyDeleteYAY Sandy!! Great weight loss! Tell me how you did it so I can lose another ten! Oh, and Rowdy.... that boy eats too much and needs to watch his weight too! Glad you pups are all doing great!
ReplyDeleteOh Sandy! I work for a nonprofit dealing with low vision and we see more and more dog owners finding their dogs have glaucoma. I hope that he's able to take the drops.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a drama-free weekend with the blog! Everything seems to working ok with it!
Woof! Woof! We r in WP but still use Blogger/Google reading list but there r times its not working which makes it harder for us to catch up in our reading.
ReplyDeleteLOVELY Golden photos. How's Todd's flea issues ... hope it was nothing.
Sending Lots of Golden LOVE to the Golden Pines Gang. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar
I've had five dogs on thyroid meds at one time or another and all of them dropped a lot of weight fast when starting. Be sure to check levels frequently at first because they usually have to adjust dosage.
ReplyDeleteKim, I was wondering where you had gotten to! I'm glad everything is going well on your end and that things are looking up for Lucas and Sandy. And yes, there is something distincly bear-like about Sandy, as in cuddly teddy bear!
ReplyDeletethat third photo is lovely
ReplyDeleteSandy is a bear!! He totally looks like one!!
ReplyDeleteAs you know, I've had issues with inconsiderate humans this week too... They can be VERY frustrating... It is a wonder the vet didn't say anything to the cat owner... Hmmm...
Glad to hear everyone is well. Thanks for sharing your wonderful photos, too. ♥
ReplyDeleteFantastic to hear about Sandy Bear's progress.
ReplyDeleteWe totally understand Blogger problems. Seems soon there'll be blogger rage.
XXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy
good for Sandy...he must feel sooo much better! can i ask his dose for his thyroid meds? he sure looks happy!! such a lucky guy!
ReplyDeletexoxo
Hey Kim! Sandy was on .12 mgs of thyroxine (two .6 tabs) twice daily, But I got a call this afternoon from the vet to half one of the .6's -- I had a feeling with that big of a weight loss, he was taking too much.
ReplyDeleteBless Sandy's heart... what a sweetie. I'm glad he's okay with taking treats from your hand now. Hope Lucas is soon all better! Enjoy this beautiful weather!! (love that last picture)
ReplyDeleteI just think you are an angel surrounded by more angels...Golden one too! Such sweet babies they all are. As for Face book, I am about ready to get off of it...the only reason I sat is for all my big family, other than that, I would bee gone...yes, I have been cutting back to mostly family and extended family. Bless you for what you do there. :)
ReplyDeleteBlog issues drive me batty, too! I'm glad you got yours sorted out.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like some pups have really flourished over the last few months!
Sandy, we are very partial to dogs who resemble bears around our house!

ReplyDeleteI sucks when the blog doesn't work correctly...I hear you. Hopefully it's now corrected.
ReplyDeleteYour dogs are so very fortunate that they have such wonderful people to look after them. We see so many poor animals up here that are just taken for granted...

ReplyDeleteYeah! Sandy does look a lot like a grizzly....:O)
ReplyDeleteGlad ur pups are responding to the meds. It must be a great relief.
I dont even want to start talking about my blogger probs. Somehow the server here assumes everyone resides in India and converts all addresses to .in so I cant access any of them! How very irritating!
Have a great Sunday
