He's Listening

A small amount of snow at the start of our day, melted by lunchtime.  But I'll take whatever we get and try to be happy with it.  Forecasted to come by the end of the weekend is a blast of cold air from Canada that will send our temperatures plunging.  Listening to the weathermen, because they seem to know the temperatures to come instead of a snowfall, I've gotten out my warmest scarf and gloves.  We'll see if I end up needing them.

I continue to be very grateful for all the healing thoughts you've sent for Lucas!  He continues to do pretty well, but his face is still pretty swollen.  If there is any problem we're having with him, it's his habit of rubbing his face along the rugs.  I was specifically told by the dentist to not allow him to do anything like that because it could pull out the sutures.  To try and 'protect' his face, I've put a small e-collar on him.  He became really subdued and kept his head down when he realized it wasn't going to come off.  I told Lucas there was no shame in his having to wear the 'cone of shame.'  I think he believed me, because he didn't object to it nearly as much after I said that. Its been my experience that Golden Retrievers will believe just about anything you say to them...
I am finding that Scottish Terriers do too. Todd really loves being outside.  But I told him that his digging in the yard means he's not going to get to play outside by himself for the time being.
Todd responded by running off with my house-slipper, the dishtowel he pulled off the counter, and whatever he could grab out of the clothes basket.  At least he's listening...

  3. I've found my Goldens believe anything I say except "no I don't have any cookies". How do they know??

Terriers on the other hand, only seem to believe the voices in their heads....BOL

So happy Diamond Luc is healing. Cone of shame is nothing after what he went through.

  7. Glad to hear Luca is doing well ! I think the e-collar is a good idea to help make sure he doesnt rub his mouth on the carpets . Thats what Miggy does after her dinner thanks goodness for stain master carpets lol ! Hope Tod stops digging , Miggy used to dig as well but as she got older and I had to spray apple bitter to stop her when she started a hole she finally stoped diging after she turned a year old ! We here in Ontario Canada got a blast of a winter snow storm after having green for a few weeks here and mild temps it is now minus 15 with the wind chill and lots of snow ! Have a good day !

  10. Poor Lucas, I can somehow relate to him, although I don't THINK I will be rubbing my face on the carpet! I know he thinks there is something wrong, and he is so right.

Todd is such a cutie, hole digger and all.

  16. We didn't get enough snow to even be able to make a happy face! Just hard flurries and lots of very cold wind. Winter was cancelled this year is what I heard.

  19. I'm glad you got a bit of snow and that Lucas is still doing well and adapting to the 'cone of shame'. Maybe he thought you were using it as a form of punishment at first?

As for the cold, we are indeed sending it down to you, so I'm glad to hear that you're prepared :o)

  20. I bet Golden Retrievers will believe anything you tell them. Try that with a hound dog! We had a mix and didn't believe a thing he was told. Had to check everything out for himself. What a dog he was! I miss him so. Don't know why I started to think of him....Have a nice Sunday, Kim.

  25. Listening means one thing to goldens, but quite another to terriers. Glad things are going as well as could be expected.

  26. Glad to hear the good news about Lucas and hopefully he will tolerate the cone round his head. That little Todd is such a rascal. Unfortunately, my Jack Russells don't believe a thing I ever tell them even when I told them the weather had turned to freezing outside today. Look forward to more good reports about Lucas.

  27. oh my goodness. such adorable faces looking back at me from this post. i have a kindred spirit in todd. my mother told me that when i got into trouble, i would go all through the house and gather up the small "throw rugs" from all the rooms and put them in a pile. ???!!! maybe todd thinks gathering stuff is punishing you!
love and hugs to little lucas and your whole crew!

  31. I'm glad that Lucas is healing, and that you convinced him not to hate the cone too much. Could you come talk to our K? She still has to wear one when she's alone, and she is terrified of it.

    Todd cracks me up!!!!

  34. Lucas' eyes just melts my heart - that is one adorable face. I hope he continues to recover well from the dental work - dear little thing (Todd's face is just downright illegal!!).
Kim, thanks so much for your wonderful words the other day about Noona and the recent struggles. I have had you in my thoughts SO much recently, knowing that you would be one to understand. I have asked myself often recently what on earth have possessed me to try and rescue so many cats (given the fact that it's just simply been more than I could physically and emotionally cope with recently) and it exactly comes down to compassion. I CANNOT stand seeing an animal in pain and cats just happens to be the creatures that are abandoned everywhere here.
I for sure believe we are kindred spirits!!

  35. Oh sweet Lucas, I hope he recovers quickly!!

  36. Lucas knows whats going on.. he knows you're trying to help and I feel he trusts you Kim.. and I don't think he's ever had that feeling before.. Todd on the other hand.. is trying to see just how much rope you will let him have until he hangs himself.. just like we were with Mom and Dad when we were growing up

  39. So glad Lucas is doing well. Once he heals that cone of shame can come off and he will be able to play and rub his face where ever he wants. Goldens really are great dogs.
Todd looks like a trip and a half. Too funny.
